Good afternoon. DH and I had to do our "Wellness checkup" so we can get a $50 per month per person premium waiver for insurance early this morning. Then went to Bible study. Met DH for lunch then went to Walmart for some items (Easter eggs being one of them lol).
Dutch-glad DS likes his backpack. Yes go play with Ally.
Barb-how many windows?
Cathy-glad you got to swim. You are really dedicated with it. I need to get back to walking again soon.
Libby-glad the horse situation is settled.
Amy-does Lukas have a short mane? With my gaited horses we wanted as long a mane as they could grow. Tail too.
Faye-you should have a show coming up pretty soon, right?

Hi again - faye- they think 3-4 days on the windows -we have 18 including 4 BIG picture windows with crank out windows on the side. they are all casement windows (they crank open rather than up & down) and since they are replacing the entire framing it's more complicated. today they did the 3 spare bedrooms & one tall one in the kitchen -tomorrow our bedroom, finish the kitchen (2 more there) and maybe dining room. everything is off the walls & quite a mess!
I did get out on Penny today -we walked about 35 minutes (according to my tracker 1.2 miles) she was very good -the trail is still mushy/slushy/icy in spots. there is a part at the beginning of the trail that is a stone bridge over the stream -it's high and narrow -I get a bit nervous as due to the footing we have to walk along the edge (where there is a drop off) SHe's fine - it's all me! Tomorrow I hope to take her a bit further.

Had a nice ride. Rode some indoor and some outdoor. Got almost half of his mane braided over to the right. I will finish on Friday. I let him hand graze on some nice grass while I was doing it to keep him occupied and that worked well. Going to go paint pottery with DD2, fun!

AMY-how is DD1 at her job? I hope no other incidents. Glad you got the mane braided and good luck finishing the rest . BARB-that's a lot of windows. sounds like it will be lovely though. We replaced windows and got the ones with the blinds inside, i love them. BETH-I saw Easter stuff too. Just rushes the year. I like March with St. Patrick's day and Purim. Hope all went well at your checkups. sorry I didn't follow thru with the Bible study stuff. just too much going on . I do have a show March 15 for St. Patrick's day and then one 2 days later ( a sort of warm up for some student step dancers--guess I'm the "pre-show") DUTCH-well, DS will grow in to the backpack LIBBY-how often do you take a lesson now? CATHY-hope the rain slows down. when do you find out the songs for the next show? are you looking forward to it? waving to all. HAGE

Good morning. I need to fill up the bird feeders again. I find I'm filling them up about every other day while the migrations are going on. Doing nothing special today. We got our Federal income tax refund Tuesday so I'm going to pay off the loan for the roof work we had done. Yay!

We have snow this morning! Just a dusting, it's cold! Dh can't wait to get back to AZ I got videos of Katy riding Rosie last night with Heidi giving her a lesson. The just worked the whole lesson at a walk, getting Rosie to respond to her seat better and good ole Rosie loves to trot and canter, the walk, not so much! Katy texted me that she "loves her". I told her to ride lessons a few times and see if she wants to do a 1/4 ish lease on her. ride 2 - 3x a week and help pay for shoes and feed. Katy is care leasing an 18 month old wild horse that came from the same reservation that Rhoku did. She is pretty tame and sweet and pretty, a tri-colored tobianno (sp?) small like Rhoku, with big leg movements. They both have such full and long manes and tails-makes them look cute! Still working on taxes! ugh! Beth, I'm jealous yours are done! Last night at feeding LUcy wouldn't come into her stall for grain.....I knew something was wrong! She is a very food motivated horse. She finally came with a lot of coaxing, she was lame on her left front. I had turned her out in the orchard, she was bucking and carrying on out there like a wild women! I don't think I'll turn her out there anymore, the ground is soft and uneven. The only thing I could see was that her l hoof on the outside of tof

ibbyWhere do you have the bird feeders? I used to have them on my back deck and quit doing it a few years ago-they are so messy! barbl123no bear issues? believe it or not -there are many instances of bears here raiding feeders charmedharphooray for the refund! squirrels would do gymnastics on the feeder, had to take it down. I have 4 feeders of various sizes. Three are in the front yard and one is beside the house. There are no bears in this part of Alabama. The only predators are my cats. They do occasionally catch a bird. The squirrels don't bother the feeders too much as we have so many oak trees and they have lots of acorns to eat.

Hi, all! Faye, glad you had a good lesson. We are set up for Monday's. I think she said she was going to send me Surrey Gardens, which I think is lovely. Not sure of the concert picks yet. Barb, glad you got in the walk. The bridge does sound scary! The windows sounds awesome...I'm jealous. It's on my to-do list when I have money again. Beth, I'm also jealous of you...my taxes will start today. We're meeting by phone since I didn't want to drive an hour+ to get there. Get walking! Do you think your knee is ready? Libby, it was cold here last night as well...I woke up to cold feet at some point, put on an extra blanket. At least it's not raining!!! Dutch, get out...if it's sunny, just do it. Even if it's just to say 'hi' to Ally. I know the cold can exacerbate the cough...use steam...seems to be the best for me. Hope you can resolve the estate taxes, etc. Amy, very good...glad you got out on Lukas! Braiding manes was kind of soothing, if you didn't have a horse who tossed all the time. I also didn't know the mane was supposed to be on a specific side. Maybe it's kind of a new thing? Libby, are we that old???!?! Got in a walk/jog yesterday, but didn't sleep well. I wish I knew what was wrong. Physically tired, but mentally wide awake...sigh. Taxes today for me as well so no swimming. Will try tomorrow. Want to go "over the hill" to meet with friends on Saturday, but it's supposed to rain. Not quite sure what to do yet; I feel like such a wimp but it's so tense, driving that road with all of it's issues. We'll see how I feel tomorrow...maybe the rain will move Cathy

CATHY-do you mean Down by the Salley Gardens? I like that one. Never heard of Surrey gardens. A change in weather usually affects my sleep (and one tooth, go figure). glad you got to walk. BETH-I like your new avotar. now that the snow melted i see all the tree limbs down. If it's nice weather this weekend, I'll try collecting and getting them together for removal. My landscaper does that but if I do some hopefully it costs less because it will take them less time. BARB-hope you enjoyed lunch. AMY-how long do you think it takes to train the mane to the other side. Like Cathy, I never knew one side is for hunters. or short manes? are there other "cosmeticish" requirements? LIBBY-hope DH has a good trip. Hope Lucy is ok. would be nice to 1/4 lease and get some help with upkeep. DUTCH-hope you are feeling better and get out to see Ally.
had a double Kabbalah class today so 2 hrs. it went by so fast. Love the Rabbi, he is just brilliant, quotes everyone from Plato to Star Trek. My kind of Rabbi!

Just went out and spent some time with Lucy. Her L fetlock is clearly larger than her right one this morning. I gave her non-bute last night (herbs) and just gave her some real bute. I will only turn her out in the even arena! Last time she got a pulled shoulder when I let her out in the orchard! The Orchard is Rosie's turn out area. She isn't as lame, yet is walking on it weird, kind of flopping it over in a walk instead of lifting. It started snowing on us and I had Rhoku in the arena, so didn't lead her at a trot to see how lame she is. I was also by myself, I like to have someone else evaluate while I lead or vice a versa. Now the sun is out-our weather is weird!

The American sport of "hunters" has it's origins from the older sport of fox hunting which has many traditions of turnout for horse and rider. Some of the traditions from Fox hunting have been modified and updated in "hunters"over the years as the sport evolved. We no longer wear stock ties with pins for example. The mane on the right is still the standard. You can compete with the mane on the left but it will make your horse stand out and depending on the judge perhaps not in a good way. Hunters is a subjective sport so you may do better sticking with standards of horse and rider turnout. You are always better off braiding but it takes a long time. Hunters have a lot of braids and they are done differently in style then braiding for dressage. Our hunt coats have 3 buttons and they match the fabric not stand out metals or colors. In "jumpers" which is a timed competition (not subjective) the coats have 4 contrasting buttons and sometimes contrasting colors on the collar. Riders that are teens or adults ride in tall boots, black. No half chaps. Hunters do not put "bling" or sparkles on their spurs or belts. Sometimes when it is very hot hunt coats are excused and you can hear coaches telling riders to keep the coats on. Helmets should be black not a lot of flash although vents are acceptable they should be black. Tack should not have bling on it and saddle pads are shaped to fit the saddle and should show only about an inch outlining the shape of the saddle and should be white or natural fleece color if you are using a real lambs wool one. If you are showing in an equitation class your stirrups must be metal. Black stirrups are OK in non equitation classes. I use black composite stirrups because I am showing the horse off not my riding (equitation) although really bad equation would affect the score. There are a lot of traditions and some things have changed even in the 5 short years I have been showing. The biggest for me has been the shirts which have become much more comfortable with tech fabric and attached collars. Probably went on too long here but there is a lot of standards especially for "rated shows". non rated shows and schooling shows are different.

We did get out again -today went almost 2 miles -45 minutes -the trail is still very slushy but I made it to a part where it winds back thru an open area that used to be a quarry -there was a path of sorts tromped down, still kind of deep & then slushy where it had melted. Penny did try to jig a bit in our "trotting" places (she remembers!) but I kept it to a walk -not sure if I will get out tomorrow & Saturday I have a show so this may be it for a while (again!)
Amy -do you have a target date for your first show w/ Lukas? Have a good evening all

Had a good lesson yesterday evening, yes the horse riding won out over going out to eat w/dh lol I rode the 1st half and Katy rode the second half on Rosie. We wanted to make sure we are both doing the same thing with her. She is very interested in a part-lease. I told her let's ride lessons a few more times. Heidi pointed out a few of my bad habits that I've been doing for years that tell Rosie that she can't walk on her own-imagine that! It's ME! The lesson was only at a walk and a little trotting. I've been doing an inside only half-halt instead of a centered half-halt and keeping tension on the inside rein at a walk, so when I release that tension-she says "where did you go? I can't do this on my own" which is what we are now working on - letting her know she can walk on her own! Lucy's fetlock looked a little better last night, gave her the non-bute, she is walking better also. Rhoku nipped at my hand when I was filling his water bucket, I punched him in the nose, he was not fazed at all and wanted me to pet his neck- he's such a young gelding and actually sweet-just a little naughty! Trust everyone has a fantastic Friday! After work, I'm going to a going away party for my boss-so no riding today. Heidi is having a photographer at the barn today, someone just starting and isn't charging. Katy said she'd clean Rosie up and pose her for some pictures! I don't have any, so I'm excited!

Hi, all! Libby, I get the punching...I used to do that too when I got nipped. Then I would change whatever I was doing to see if it would fix the nipping. Sometimes helped, sometimes not. Glad you had a fun time on the lesson, though, and yeah, the 1/4 lease would be great for finances Good luck on the last day at work!! Faye, yes, the song name you mentioned Amy, thanks for the history lesson. That was fun! Barb, glad you got out yesterday. And yeah, how did you get everything done while still working??!?! I guess that's why I don't get everything done! Beth, nothing wrong with quiet days! Glad you feeling well enough, both of you, to get out "on a date" Dutch, hi! Hope you're feeling better! Legs were sore yesterday from the jog the day before, and I thought I had to call in for my taxes, but didn't. So kind of messed up the afternoon. Had a long gripe session with a co-worker and I'm not the only VERY unhappy with their job. Sun is out again today, but supposed to rain tomorrow. I will try to swim today, but might be busy is the weather stays nice through the day. We'll see. Taking next week off, just goofing around on a "staycation". Cathy

so the temps hit 70 here today-but alas -too much to do so no ride today-got the car packed for tomorrow -packed it myself so DH can't harass me about how much I'm taking for this very small venue - I most likely will not put even 1/2 of what I'm taking...but you just never know -I did reduce somewhat from what I take to a "regular" show.
I moved 3 wheel barrel loads of manure/mud -needless to say -there is so much more but my back said "enough for today" it will be there tomorrow , and the next day! Penny was "naked" last night -today & tonight as well -who would have thought in February? Libby - glad you got a lesson & you did the right thing reprimanding -nothing worse than a nippy horse -I know what you mean about finding out something you have been doing is not quite correct! My equitation days are long behind me -so on the trails I usually just go with the flow.
Hope Dutch, Beth (and anyone else who is not feeling well) finally shake the coughs! Faye-how many people are in your Kabbalah class? they offer one here once in a while -but I never really looked into it.
Windows are about 3/4 done -they look great & today I opened some of them!
As i said -show tomorrow so won't be back till sometime sunday -HAGW-

BARB-good luck at the show. do you need to have the frames around the window painted when done? are the windows pre-painted? I'd say about a dozen in the Kabbalah class total but some are off and on snow birds. I find it very interesting. warm here too, but I think just for today. weird. CATHY_ i like that song. have fun at your Staycation BETH-hope you enjoyed the day out and are feeling better AMY-that was interesting about the requirements for the different classes. thanks. did you finish braiding? DUTCH-hope you are feeling better

Ya, that's a portion of my marriage issues... *sigh*. Love me some horses! When DH and I were dating I told him before we got married that I would have horses in my life. He was terrified of large animals but got over it quickly. Hope your DH can learn to tolerate if not love horses.

Ya Squiggles... he's not. He has no fear of them. He's jealous of my time with them - anything other than him really. Least that's a chunk of it and he isn't owning it, so it's all my fault. We've been married almost 8 years... no change.
