Yesterday I stayed on track. A third of my daily calories came from chocolate...but still. Sometimes I don't make nutritious choices. 🌐 Roberta, It's great that you'll be organized enough to bring only a carry-on for your long trip. What a pain about the second floor people rushing you on the apartment sale, adding even more to your must-do list, prior to your vacation departure. Yes, my apartment complex is all rentals, and it's nearly all people from town. I know one other Troy professor who lives here. There are 184 units, arranged in three -story buildings, with a pond and a pool/gym/clubhouse facility in the center. I obviously don't know everybody and go through phases when I barely speak to any neighbors. Sometimes I do feel more outgoing, though. We're very close to one of the better elementary schools in town, so some residents with young children choose it for that reason. 🌐 Annette, Happy 63rd anniversary to you and Fred!! 🌐 June, I'm so glad that you like your new physician and that she spent a long time talking to you. That's very important! I hope that playing with Jim went well on Tuesday and that you start feeling better soon. 🌐 Andrea, I like thinking of you being in Austin. I did enjoy living there for 5 years, though I have no desire to live in a big city again. 🌐 Vicki, I'm very very happy to hear that you had a great day of skiing on Tuesday. I'm sorry that you can no longer ski to the last lift, but , if you got your money's worth and experienced joyous moments on the snow, it sounds worthwhile already. Great job pushing yourself to try some advanced terrain when the weather and snow were ideal. I'm not surprised that you're so fit. You keep yourself in excellent shape! I can understand calling skiing "the most fun thing in the world." Yay! I looked at the Christy Hill menu and would have ordered the Artisanal Cheese plate, Chocolate Pot de Crème, and Crème Fraîche Cheesecake. 🌐 Nina, No pressure on savory oats. Why force ourselves to eat things we're not drawn to? I'm not spurring myself to eat legumes or avocado toast or beets, even if they're healthy or trendy or instagrammable. 🌐 Nancy, The three little plants in the hanging glass terrarium my friend gave me are still alive (after one month!), and one plant has even sprouted a tiny purple flower in the center. Truly a miracle. 🌐 Those are responses to Tuesday. I'll go back to read Wednesday. Robin

Good Morning Petites
The Nets won last night and it was a free, so that was good also. The seats were not as good as those I sat in with my sister. I actually saw her at the game, and she said the seats were worse the last two times she went. That may be because the team is now over .500 and people are buying tickets. It is pouring out, but it is over 50 degrees. I will be going to the eye dr, which I put off, when I injured myself in the subway.
Robin, thanks for explaining where you live. It sounds like a wonderful place, especially since it's a rental. Do they have rent control laws in Dothan? I did laugh to see Dothan on our local weather report yesterday, showing the warm weather moving from there to up here. It said 65 degrees. I hope it stays like that, so you can play tennis tomorrow. I am also willing to skip regular meals, to have a sweet choice and I don't think it hurts your weight or nutrition, unless this is your new daily diet. Are your calcium supplements over the counter? If so, which one do you take?
Annette, amazing that a simple thing like a battery caused your heat not to turn on. I'm glad Fred figured it out. Congratulations on finally getting your tooth. You must be very happy. I am also glad that Fred got good news from the dr. If you can only get his depression, under control.
Nancy, I can't believe how big your granddaughter has gotten. 11 is a funny age, no longer a child and not yet a teen, though adolescence seems to come at an earlier age. What did you eat at Pietro's? You are getting colder than normal weather, which is strange, since the weather people predicted warmer than normal weather in the west. I guess it is just cold in the morning, but warms up as the day goes on. Unless I've missed it, you haven't talked about your weight for a bit. Is that because it is stable? Hope this is not a busy week for you. Curious, what do you think of Kamala Harris for president? I will obviously support whomever the Dems run, but I do hope they are strategic in choosing a candidate, who can actually beat the Idiot. I think the gov't shutdown is purposeful, to get rid of federal agencies they have wanted to get rid of, like EPA, FDA, education....
Andrea, I didn't realize you were so close to Austin. I am surprised about the cooler weather, since I think of it being warm there. Glad it will heat up. Wow, that the place you are staying is related to a reputable hotel chain, yet is dirty. Renovation is a lame excuse for having dirty furniture. You have to have bbq in Texas. I think it is the law. Very good news about D being on the mend and feeling happy. What is he doing in the embroidery shop? Would he do better as a pharmacist in a hospital? What other possibilities are there for a pharmacist once he is well? Enjoy your trip to San Antonio. I hear the food and the River Walk are both wonderful, and I think you might visit the Alamo. I was never in San Antonio, but I was in Houston and Galveston, which is a very cute town. Did you bring your bikes with you or did you rent bikes?
Nina, that was very nice of E to write a character letter, for his friend. Teens are a handful and that is part of the growing up process, though you hope they can avoid breaking the law. Glad you got your ear cleared and I think you have had enough health issues for a while. Hope you enjoyed your workout yesterday. I agree with you that it is just fun to be at a live sporting event. I hope I did not seem like I was pushing bowls; I am just enjoying my oatmeal so much more doing it savory and am so much more full, that I am sharing my experience, not saying this is how anyone else should eat.
June, congratulations for coming in first again. You can get very used to that. Is it that you and Jim are playing more, so you are a more comfortable team or is it that you have improved from playing with so many different people and teaching? You seem very busy, even when you are in the house. Theater Extras is only $99 a year, and we'll see if it remains a good deal.
Vicki, you sure are a competitive person, as is John. Comparing your skiing stamina makes me laugh. Pilates and yoga help strengthen our core and balance and that seems like the perfect combination for skiing. Sorry the weather is uncooperative, because of warmth. I hope you can find more skiing, before you leave. How funny that our weather wishes are opposite, since I hope for dry and warmer. Your food in the fancy restaurant sounded delicious, and not wanting another fancy meal and turning to soup also sounds good. When I am away, I appreciate places that offer a free breakfast, so I can get my fill of coffee. I need to have it to kickstart my day. Lots of people use the pour over drip, so that works. When do you return home? You're right about weather, and it is much better to focus on that uncontrollable aspect of our lives than the Idiot, who is also an uncontrollable aspect of our lives.
Lots of minor irritants to be taken care of, for the building and for myself. That is life, isn't it? Wishing everyone a day of food and activity satisfaction. Roberta

Annette-I'm glad Fred figured out the thermostat. Now perhaps we can defrost. I'm glad you finally have your tooth, what an ordeal you went through. I'm glad Fred will have no surgery and echo Roberta's sentiments he can address his depression.
Robin-I know there is no pressure. But it doesn't hurt to try new ways of eating. Talking about beets, my dad loved them. I growing up did not care for them. Maybe because I never tried or whatever reason there was. Now I love them, all these years I could have enjoyed them. I like to have an open mind.
Roberta-As I mentioned to Robin, I know there is no pressure. I did not feel like you were. Part of my problem is the planning as I make my oatmeal at work. It would need to be a weekend project or on my Friday off. I will weigh in on Kamala Harris. She was instrumental as AG for CA to negotiate with the banks during the financial crisis. She was hard nose they were going to reimburse homeowners who faithfully were trying to arrange loan modifications and the banks played their games. As a result, I benefited from her. I liken her to BO, good or bad. Hope you complete your minor irritants without incident.
Hi to ATF Today is yoga and tonight the box. E will start school tomorrow. His counselor had a unexpected death in the family and is not able to be school today. He was a little disappointed.
Yoga was great focusing on balance poses.
Vicki-I hope you enjoyed your skiing today. I have a colleague that just came back from acl surgery. She too likes to hike and is feeling constrained. She said how I seemed content and happy. I reminded her I too felt depressed when I returned to CF. I said in 6 months you will feel different.

It has been a long, busy day, with a good but hard Gravity class this morning. Lots of planks and pushups. I missed a week of classes, and I feel like a lost some of my strength. WI yesterday was good at 110.2. I had a small chocolate chip cookie just now, with a half-caf coffee. Tonight is chiro with the new practitioner, Dr. January. She uses a form of chiropractic called Network. I used to go to Richard Kaye, one of the early adopters of this technique, back in the 1980s. January knows him from conferences. He used crystals (seriously, but it worked).
Annette, I'm glad to hear that Fred solved the thermostat problem and you are now warm. I would have called the HVAC guy immediately. I hate being cold! Good that Fred does not need heart surgery.
Nina, do you make instant oatmeal at work, or do you have a full kitchen? Do you eat breakfast at work because you have to leave so early? I like Kamala Harris despite not having any personal experience with the results of her service as AG. She is a street fighter, like Nancy Pelosi. I admire both of them.
Roberta, I ordered the eggplant parm Sicilian style (with ricotta), but the eggplant was not cooked enough, and was chewy instead of the usual melt in the mouth tenderness. Pietro took it away and brought me gnocchi with his special sauce instead. It was delicious! 11-year-old is pre-teenager, with the usual signs of eye-rolling and door-slamming. DIL got a new phone and gave GD her iPhone 7 with cellular. Trouble arose because she is texting with boys she doesn't know. A found out and texted DIL that they need to monitor the phone. I'm glad I did not have to deal with that when my kids were that age.
Robin, I'm glad the air plant has flowered! Yes, a miracle of nature. Chocolate is a worthy expenditure of calories.
Time to leave for my new age chiro appointment.

Hi Everyone --
Nancy and I had a nice game today, coming in third overall out of sixteen. Higher would have been better, as it’s a weak field, but it was fine. I’m teaching a class tomorrow morning, and then playing with Abe tomorrow afternoon, so that will be a nice day. I still have a lot of work to do on the class for Sunday.
I had too many nuts while playing today, but eating for the most part has been good. I only have a few grapes left, and I won’t buy any more. We had turkey taco salad (no chips) for dinner tonight, which was good.
Andrea, I’m glad you enjoyed the chilly biking and the barbeque. NC is famous for BBQ, but I haven’t had any since we got here. I should try some soon. Gruene sounds like a cool place to visit, and I would have enjoyed it too. The Trump socks would have turned me off the store too. Good idea to do more investigation before booking another Holiday Inn resort. I’m so happy to hear that D is doing well, asn has found a job that he enjoys. I’m glad K is feeling well too.
Vicki, sorry the skiing yesterday wasn’t as good as Tuesday. Too bad about the limited choices for terrain. The duck dinner sounds divine, and last night’s dinner sounds good too. I could eat Brussels sprouts every day. How nice to meet some fun tourists from Brazil. I think you’re in better shape than John is, no matter what he says. ;-)
Annette, I’m glad the problem with the heat was easily fixed with new batteries and that you have your new tooth. That was a long wait! Good news that Fred won’t need surgery.
Robin, at least your calorie count was on track yesterday. You eat so many veggies most days that a couple of days without won’t hurt you. Interesting that there aren’t more Troy professors in your apartment complex. Do you have any idea why? I still haven’t met the people who bought the house across the street from us, so I can relate to not speaking to neighbors much.
Roberta, I’m glad you enjoyed the game last night. As for Jim and me, it’s a combination of understanding each other better, especially on defense, my improvement, and also a lot of studying of the bidding system by me. The Theater Extras sounds like it has potential to be a good deal at $99.
NIna, I like to keep an open mind about different foods too, as I also grew up a picky eater. I still haven’t warmed up to beets, though. Did I miss that E is changing schools? Sorry if I did. I agree with Roberta that it was very nice for him to write a character letter for his friend. It’s interesting to learn more about Kamala Harris. There are a lot of Democrats running, much like the Republicans in 2016, I hope we end up with a better candidate. The kids are certainly getting involved with tech at much younger ages.
Nancy, your DGD is getting so big! That was a great picture of her. Congrats on the good WI. How did Richard Kaye use crystals in his practice? That sounds very interesting.

Hi all. We’re home. It was a fair ski day. We had to stay on the groomed trails because the natural snow had deteriorated in the last two days of warm weather. It got boring after a while so we called it a day and went shopping at the local ski shop. John’s boots are ancient. There wasn’t a boot fitter available but I did find a great pair of Helly Hanson ski pants in a dark maroon that look great with my bright pink ski jacket. Last year when I was complaining that my ski pants bagged on me, I bought a new pair. Well I have rebuilt my butt muscles and my old pants fit again and the brand new pair from last year a really tight I don’t think it’s my extra three pounds. I have really been working hard on all my hip muscles and I do feel my tush is bigger and firmer than a year ago. That’s a good thing! Food today was better. I got some Icelandic Skyr and had most of the little container with the motel granola. John got a breakfast burrito at the resort. Lunch was a mediocre tuna salad while we waited for a boot fitter, (who never got to us), but it was fresh and you really cannot mess up canned tuna. Dinner will probably be scrambled eggs. Annette, I am so glad you heat issue had a simple fix. I am sorry you had to endure that cold. Good news on the health front for Fred. Congrats on finally getting your permanent tooth! Robin, LOL I am sure that your chocolate was healthy dark chocolate and I know you don’t count calories from fruits and veggies, so I think you’re on track day was fine. OMG I would never take you to Christy Hill. There are plenty of much more vegetarian friendly restaurants there. But it would have been fun watching the waiter pace your untraditional dinner to ours. Right! Don’t eat food you don’t like no matter who tells you it’s good for you! I am so glad I’m not a kid fighting that battle any more! Oh wow, a blooming air plant! It likes living with you Roberta, I am glad your team won, though you were not thrilled with the seats. Hope you get to the eye doctor without getting wet! Did you get the irritating tasks taken care of? I hope the sale goes smoothly and you don’t have too much running around to do. Nina, it’s good that E was disappointed with the delay starting school! It’s true that ACL surgery is hard to come back from. Your friend needs to do her rehab and really push the range of motion even though it hurts. You’re right that in six months she will feel transformed. Nancy, WTG with the great WI. You don’t really lose strength in a week. I will look up Network chiropractic. I am dubious about the value of crystals but obviously something worked. Sorry the eggplant dish didn’t work out, but of course you are regulars there and Pietro took care of you. OMG at the phone issues with an 11 yr old. I would never have been that bold even well in my teens! June, sounds like a fine day of bridge. You are hard on yourself. I bought a bag of cashews yesterday and am afraid to open them. Nuts can be really hard to resist, for me even more than sugar.
