I'm not good at casting, and the movie never (only a couple times) lives up to the book in my mind. One thing that I wanted to shout when I was reading was "what about God". <-- the element of goodness/God would probably turned this story into too much of a spiritual story, though. So I know that might've ruined the storyline. But I couldn't help it. I kept wanting to say that God could break the curse maybe... again... story ruined right there. But that did bug me so much. Thanks for leading us in this story, gemster! I love our discussions!

Gemster, thank you for nominating this book and for leading the discussion. I started rereading because it has been several months since I first read, and it's even better the second time around. A movie could be interesting - often the book is so much better though.
Great discussion everyone!

I’m not a movie watcher but probably would take a look at this out of nosiness when/if it was free to stream. I can imagine it getting the Hollywood treatment though and being all about the ‘romance’ and not the interesting historical bits so I’d likely lose interest quite quickly. I think a series on Amazon or Netflix would be better as we’d be more likely to get the full story as written and not the chopped into 2 hours version. A series would also have give us some nice options for those prequels and sequels we’d like to write No idea about actors as I’m completely out of the loop with anyone current, I thought a young Brad Pitt (as he was in Interview with the Vampire) would make a good Luc. Someone tough and feisty for Addie - maybe a bit of a Scarlett O’Hara type though not quite so unlikeable. Thank you everyone for joining in, I’ve really enjoyed this discussion and looking forward to the Lost Apothecary
