Dutch, Western folks really like paints, don't they? I'd say definitely YES! I'm wondering if she doesn't have too much knee action - but I don't know. I personally struggle with "peanut rollers" myself. But I'll teach her western - but I'll be sidestepping that part! No offense to anyone here - just my preference! Heck, if she had MORE action, I'd rider her Saddle Seat (my favorite as a kid). I just like happy, well behaved (on ground and under saddle, functional horses

Had long meeting this morning with ds's job coach and case worker. Went really well even though my house is torn up! Working today then picking up dgd (1-1/2 hour round trip). It's 29 degrees out. I decided not to blanket the girls this year. If it gets much colder, I may throw a blanket on them lol Faye; glad the concert went so well! Barb, are you chipping ice or do you have a heater in the tank for the horses? Cathy; DN is doing well DS's in Alaska are both having lots of issues and going to see counselors, thank goodness! The older one calls me mom and we can talk about anything, he called me last night- he was having a hard day, my heart breaks for him right now we talked a long time he broke down a lot while we were talking. The younger one and I don't have as close of a relationship His way of dealing with this is to not talk about it. He is an angry person, I am so glad he is considering going to counseling. Hi horse lovers, Pretty icy looking out this morning with a dusting of snow. I need to drive out to the prison at 10:00 this morning, hoping the sun will dry off the roads! My new frig and d/w are showing up today and I don't have anywhere to put them! Had to buy early to get the sale price! I guess my lvrm will get more crowded today lol Electrical is happening this weekend and then sheetrock. I asked again about the boarding for $180 as it didn't sound right and Heidi confessed me that she has to buy all the hay and grain and they only feed in the morning, she has to do turn out from the stall herself. So that makes more sense to me. It's basically self care. We must have had a misunderstanding when she told me it was full care. No more kicking the stall from Lucy, we've been giving her an extra flake of hay at night and the mare magic! Today having lunch with a work friend. She had a nice palomino on a 30 day trial from my dsil's, sisters dil's(lol) anyways, she returned him after the 30 days and is going to tell me why at lunch today. I'm curious! Tomorrow is a shopping and girls day w/dd, dsil and dd's mil - ok way too many relatives in this post! Anyways, we are having lunch at PF Changs, love their tempura green beans! then do some Christmas shopping. HAGD everyone!

Hi, all! Faye, glad you found some things shopping! Barb, whoo-ray for great horses! Glad you got some riding in Libby, so sorry about the boys. Glad that you have one who communicates, but sure hope the younger gets into counseling. Anger like that will only hurt him more as he grows older. I had a guy friend who's dad committed suicide while he was in college and he just really never forgave his mom and sister, even though his dad was a bitter alcoholic. This guy was ALWAYS angry and had lots of issues. I sincerely hope your boys both get through this! Dutch, it really sounds like things have changed in Western riding. I wasn't very familiar with it as I didn't ride Western, but I sure saw the outfits change over time Beth, hope you're doing well...what's with the armadillo? It is pouring here...supposed to rain all day, which means SWIMMING this afternoon Also, I think I'm about done with the painting I've been working on. Getting tired of it which means I could easily ruin it if I don't stop soon. Had xrays of my foot and will see a podiatrist next week. Didn't someone just get orthodics...Libby? The pair I have are very old so probably useless. We'll see. Cathy

Good morning. Just got back from the chiropractor. I'm good to go now until/unless I do something else to myself. DH is on a field trip so I have to house to myself.
Don't get me started on "western pleasure". The horses look like they hurt to move. They go so slow. Now the fashion is to have false long tails. You can always tell a falsie because they get caught between the horse's back legs and don't move naturally. Now I love a long tail but I like natural long tails. To me western pleasure is the most un-natural of all the western classes in QH and that type of horse.
Cathy-swimming in the rain? you're not afraid of lightening? The armadillo is one of the 2 babies I had in the yard earlier this year. They were so cute.
Libby-do tell us about the palomino saga. Have fun in prison.
Barb-good trail horses are keepers. Both Squiggle and Sugar were wonderful trail horses.
Faye-a scarf can do wonders for an outfit.
Dutch-I know you said you like dressage but do you like to trail ride too?
Amy-where are you?

Ok- so we saw Arrival - like it -not what i expected -(don't want to give away too much for those who might see it) But good! AND- for the first time we left Tundra out of her crate when we left the house for a short period of time (2 1/2 + hours) -she did fine - only chewed a pen -which is somewhat normal when the cat teases her with it! We will continue to test her more & more!
Tonight Nashville is on CMT! Yea - been waiting.........Keep warm

Good morning, Friday
BARB-I felt the same about Arrival. How does a cat tease a dog with a pen? LIBBY-how was the prison? are you ever retiring for real? i forget the plan. hope the electrical is moving along and walls are starting to go up. DUTCH-how did you post the photo? very cute. sort of a postcard look to it. CATHY-loved the painting. so what suggestions did the teacher have? i loved it. and the colors are gorgeous and the dog looks happy.
show went well. Very cold, 20 people and 20 degrees out. i had a few more mistakes than i would have liked but everyone seemed to really like it and thanked me. and wore a better outfit and the scarf photographs well.
now food shopping and errands today. a quiet day. next show is Tuesday and then background on Thursday
waving to all. HAGD

Hi horse lovers, woke up early, finishing up some monitoring work (I don't really know about real retirement Faye!)so I won't feel guilty playing all day! Going shopping and out to lunch today. Got my frig and d/w yesterday, Frig is set up in makeshift kitchen, love it so far, it's the type that has two doors on one side so you can get drinks out w/o opening the whole frig and a really big freezer below, so I don't have to run downstairs all the time to the big freezer! The dishwasher is on the front porch lol, it has a third rack to put utensils on. I'm liking this new stuff!! The palomino story; lol he was a buckskin! I guess I have sometimers disease! sometimes I remember, sometimes not! She said the owner was unhappy that he didn't have more turn out, came out to see him all the time, watched her lessons and my friend felt that she didn't really want to sell him. The horse had too much energy, 9 year old QH. She had to lunge him daily and pay to have the trainer lunge him when she couldn't. She said she cried and cried, when she gave him back, yet she always felt like she was trying too hard with him. The owner was very happy to get him back. Sooo, the very next day- three unrelated people sent her pictures of the same horse that just went up for sale. She went and saw him that day, had her trainer ride him, she rode him, 3 people wanted to buy him, and the owner picked her to get him. He got delivered the next day with all his tack and blankets! He is a 17 yo red roan QH/walking horse with a white face and 3 white socks, really cute. His name is willie. I can't wait to go riding with her! She said he is really mellow. She is taking lessons on him! So... happy ending HAGR everyone!

Correct, I used TapTalk. I read somewhere on the GDT board that did not consume board memory and moderators said it was ok.
Cold morning. Still early and dark here. Couldn't sleep.. oh well.

Hi all, I have been super busy and neglecting the board. I do think of you all often. I think it is not a lack of time as much as lack of focus because I think there is so much to do it hard for me to sit and type. I am staying home from the barn today as it is very cold and the temperature should be better for riding tomorrow.
Lukas went to the show and the training rider rode him so I could watch. It was great because I got to see how he behaved at shows, in and out of the ring. It also gave my training rider a chance to see what he is like so she can help me more. He did very well and I learned a lot about him. I will ride him next time but that will be in the spring when my main trainer returns from FL. She leaves the day after Christmas. Then my Winter trainer will start coming out. He will help solidify Lukas and I as a team. He has lots of team building exercises. He is also super picky about my form so I need to be ready for some humbling LOL. He is great though and we are friends so it isn't mean.
Faye- I am glad the second show was such a success! Remember back when you had to drive the car well and ignore the noisy kids in the back. that was preparing you for noisy audience members. LOL
Dutch- Ali is beautiful! I am so excited for you. The boarding for 2 months sounds like the best plan.
Barb- do you put special shoes on? I remember trying to ride in the snow one time and the snow packed up too much and my horse was walking on snow balls. I am thankful for the indoor.
Libby- I hope DN surgery went well. Being in the middle of a remodel is probably a little crazy but that memory will fade when you are enjoying your new kitchen.
Cathy- love the watercolor you posted on FB. The dog looks so happy.
Beth- I hope the chiropractor can make you more comfortable.
Everyone is talking about board. I pay $600 a month but that includes everything. It includes free choice hay, grain, stall cleaning and shavings, daily turnout, blanketing, hold for vet and farrier. They will feed supplements if I buy them but Lukas is not on any. They get very high quality feed. My trainer also keeps track of his condition and weight and adjusts feed as necessary. I can't go out to the barn every day and my DH does not want my horse to interfere with plans if we have a little trip or something so I need full care. I also have 2 tack lockers. The fencing is all horse safe the indoor is lighted and has really high quality footing that was new last year. There is an outdoor arena, field jumps and we are next to a park with trails. I feel very lucky.
It has been nice sitting here with you all and a cup of coffee. I will try to be better and not neglect my friends!
HAGD Amy

LIBBY- so glad it worked out with the new QH. hope everyone is happy, including Willie! enjoy lunch.
AMY-glad you got to see Lukas at the show. very smart. I had no noisy kids in the car--I have a DD and the girls were pretty good. I was a GS leader and class mother so that was probably good training. I agree with Beth, maybe they couldn't hear so if they do have me back I'd bring an amplifier, funny didn't need one last time but different people, different issues.
BETH-thanks for the info, maybe I'll try posting a photo. I got the avatar up so I guess I figured it out once!

Hi, all! Faye, glad the show was good, even with the cold. As my teachers always tell me, mistakes on a harp are still lovely Amy, don't worry about us. It was nice to hear from you and glad things are going well. It sounds like you have a good plan with Lukas and that's the important part, not hurrying through it! Your barn sounds amazing!! Libby, great story about the palomino/buckskin My Fridge was in the dining room for a while...I love the new one. Love the LED lights that come on when you open it..so much brighter! Beth, we don't get lightning much, sometimes in summer. This was just pouring rain. I've seen armadillos in Florida, none out here. Apparently we have badgers, but I've never seen one. Barb, you have a show this weekend right? Are you all ready for that? Dutch, she's just so cute in her blue blanket!! Yeah, about the pouring rain...I opted out of swimming. It's fine if it rains here and there and a little squall comes through while your swimming but this was just torrential rain all...day....long. They said 5 inches by 3 pm but we weren't done yet, so I have no idea how much we got. Maybe I should get a rain gauge? Had my last harp lesson. She will be back in Jan for a few weeks so we'll catch up for a bit. Not sure what happens after that. Rehearsals start tonight...I'm just playing in the ensemble. I think there are soloists but that's after we leave the stage. My watercolor teacher called and we talked a bit. Her suggestions were to give the car bumper more depth, add a license plate, and do something re: the shadow on the mailbox. Mostly all just small things. Nothing major Thanks all for the positive feedback Cat goes to vet this morning for follow-up on UTI. Thank God it's stopped raining! Cathy

WOw- busy morning here - so -Faye - the cat (all 9lbs of her) has Tundra scared to death! The dog will go around the back of the house to avoid her -the cat likes to "retrieve" pens that get left out (in a basket, on the desk -anywhere) and carry them around the house -she then drops them so the dog can then chew them -just the plastic not the ink! it's pretty funny to watch them -the cat will hiss & "claw" but no claws are out -so if she REALLY wanted to hurt her -she could. Yes, show this weekend -sort of -its the Hanukkah party at a temple where I usually do very well when they had a craft show -just me & their gift shop - but the crowd will be different as it is just members - but something is better than nothing! Amy- yes Penny gets borium on the fronts with a partial pad -which actually keeps a lot of the snow from balling up -bare on the hinds.
Amy -great that you got to watch Lukas go -and now you are focused on what you need to do -by spring it will be super! (blues in your future!) Cathy -loved the watercolor as is - hope all goes well for kitty! Faye- are you done with shows for the season? Libby- the new kitchen sounds wonderful - hope we get to see it when done!
DH & DDIL come in on Wed for a week -they will (of course) stay at her parents house - that's just the way it is - but since Hanukkah is so late this year I will have them for one night of the holiday -something I rarely get.
So -waving to all -keep warm -ride if you can - HAGD - CBL

DH was referred back to his regular eye doc. He has no macular degeneration. However because of the thickness of the retina which is slightly more than the other and because he has a family history, the doc wants to treat his eye as if he has glaucoma. So he had to get some drops to use every day.
I'm getting ready for our church Christmas party. I'm taking Jambalaya. I have a fairly simple and quick recipe that's not terribly spicy but spicy enough.

Good morning, Saturday
staying in, still snowing and due for 2-4 inches and icy. HOw's everyone else in the weather today?? be safe
BETH-armadillo is cute. are they fast, slow, do they eat up the garden? BARB-good luck with the show. is it still on if snowing? CATHY-how many tunes are you playing in the concert? glad you are doing it. Fun to play with others and keeps you honest with timing and rhythm . I learned a lot once i started doing ensemble. How many people in the ensemble? is it her students? are there other adults? other instruments? Have fun with it. LIBBY-hope Willie is adjusting to his new home. how long until you think the fridge and dishwasher can get to the kitchen? AMY-glad you have trainers you like and learn from. sometimes good to get another opinion so nice having 2. DUTCH-all set for Christmas? Does your son understand Santa? i wonder at a young age when the recognition comes in to make it fun.
HAGD everyone

Morning all - Faye -yes, DS (!) still snowing here as well - as far as I know -Hanukkah party will be on tomorrow -besides it's supposed to rain/be in the upper 50's! I headed out to barn around 7 to feed -before the snow started coming down heavy -the horses are getting picky about some of the hay -which to be honest is not the best -kind of straw-y- there is a lot of that and also some of the "good stuff" -we have cautiously mentioned to BM that feeding strawy stuff to them is wasting it as they just leave it & perhaps just feed it to the cows -his answer is that they will eat it if they get hungry -not the answer we want -we may have to just buy some of our own as we have done in the past winters -kind of pisses me off (since only Penny & Skip are eating hay as the 3rd horse doesn't get hay any more -teeth issues) but have to tread lightly.
Libby -forgot if you mentioned before -what color are the cabinets/counter? Beth hope everyone liked your dish -never made jambalya -think it has sausage in it? Hope this helps DH's eyes. Cathy - what is your next watercolor subject?
Waving to Amy, Dutch and anyone else who may join us -keep warm, ride if you can - HAGD -TtFN

Good morning. The party last night was a riot. They also loved the Jambalaya and wanted the recipe when we go to church on Sunday,
Here's the recipe:
Easy Cajun Jambalaya
Prep 15 m
Cook 30 m
Ready In 45 m
Recipe By:Grant Michel
"I have always loved Cajun foods but my wife doesn't like the 'kick.' In response to this, I made my traditional Jambalaya without the heat. Everyone loved this recipe and I hope you will to. Enjoy!"
Ingredients
2 teaspoons olive oil
2 boneless skinless chicken breasts, cut into bite-size pieces
8 ounces kielbasa, diced
1 onion, diced
1 green bell pepper, diced
1/2 cup diced celery
2 tablespoons chopped garlic
1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
1/2 teaspoon onion powder
salt and ground black pepper to taste
2 cups uncooked white rice
4 cups chicken stock
3 bay leaves
2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
1 teaspoon hot pepper sauce
Directions
Heat oil in a large pot over medium high heat. Saute chicken and kielbasa until lightly browned, about 5 minutes. Stir in onion, bell pepper, celery and garlic. Season with cayenne, onion powder, salt and pepper. Cook 5 minutes, or until onion is tender and translucent. Add rice, then stir in chicken stock and bay leaves. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat, cover, and simmer 20 minutes, or until rice is tender. Stir in the Worcestershire sauce and hot pepper sauce.

Barb-if you don't want to use pork sausage you can use what I normally use and that's Butterball Turkey Sausage. It doesn't have any pork but still tastes good in recipes.
Amy-it's good to see you posting. I think you made a wise move to let the trainer show Lukas first. Next spring will be here before you know it.
Libby-furniture all over the house is normal during a renovation. Once it's all done you will be so happy.

I didn't finish my posting and hit create post accidentally.
Cathy-I think you will have fun playing with others at the show.
Faye-like the avatar. I know you are practicing for the show.
Dutch-does your son like to play in the snow?
Armadillos are considered a pest here in the south. They grow to be about 2 to 2 1/2 feet including the tail and about 8-10 inches high. They don't bite you but they have very sharp claws and can really hurt you with them if they feel threatened. The one in my avatar was about half grown when I took the picture. They are considered pests because they dig little 2-3 inch holes all over the yard. They are bug and worm eaters. I don't mind them in my garden patch because their digging is kind of like cultivating the soil and helps it to compost faster.

Hi horse lovers, had a scare the other night. neighbor said my cat got hit by a car and was dead on the road Long story short, it was a cat the looked a lot like mine! Didn't get to go to lunch yesterday, dgd was sick at school. I stayed home with her and the others went shopping and to lunch. DSIL and I went shopping close to home last night and I got just about all my Christmas shopping done. Uk! Lucy was kicking the barn at 1:30 a.m. last night. I guess I'm going to try and put matts on the wall. I'm going to have to look up how to do it. Barb; sorry ds isn't staying with you - I think it's a mom-daughter thing! Cathy; love the pic of the car and dog! My 14+ yo cat is really obnoxious lately- he has been howling a lot and I can't figure out why. He needs a vet check, so I think I'll make time to do that next week. Skylights are in electrical happens today Wave to Faye, Amy, Beth, dutchwife and atf
