Hi all,
There are (is?) an abundance of political threads these days, which is fine, but sometimes in our haste to post about the latest Tidbit of Outrage, we miss the fact that it's already being discussed. This both adds to the overwhelming of the board for those not into political threads and splits people away from what might already be an interesting conversation for those who are into political threads.
So a gentle request that before you start that new thread, please scan the first page and see if any of these are happening:
-there's already a thread on that very topic
-there's a lengthy thread that seems to be about one political thing but has probably already morphed into talking about the thing you were going to post (you can just check the last page or two)
-there's maybe even something similar/related where you can post your topic and it would be a good addition
If none of those are true, post away!
Thanks and we'll see you in court, Your Mod Team

You should know that I am only just barely resisting the urge to start another thread about this.

I thought SEE YOU IN COURT was always supposed to be capitalized.
ETA: So, this only applies to political threads? I should feel free to post "John Ritter: YEP" thread number 17 without checking first?

I thought SEE YOU IN COURT was always supposed to be capitalized. I had meatloaf stuck in my caps lock key.

Please consider creating a separate Politics tab/group.

There was a poll done and the overwhelming majority wanted it to remain on the General board.
ETA: to clarify, the poll was done by a poster here, it wasn't a mod idea or suggestion.

Maybe we should have a daily thread, to consolidate it all.

Thank you for saying something. I love a good foamy political outrage thread, but it really has gotten to seem like people aren't even scanning lately.
On a side note, I drove to New Jersey tonight and the route I was taking had multiple signs saying "Bridge to New Jersey Closed" and I though, oh, hey, Christie is still the governor up here!

I don't see it as people not scanning (though there may be some of that). I see it as there's just too much to keep up with it all. It seems like every hour something new happens.

I think it's a combo. People so want to bust out about this thing that happened that they don't check.

We could call it the Daily Trump Shit Show Thread Actually, in my original post saying we should have a daily thread, I said we should call it "The Daily Shit my President Said Thread", but that seemed limiting so I deleted it before posting. I think we're on the same track, though!

Why is it that I haven't noticed duplicates at all? Am I the worst of the offenders?

Why is it that I haven't noticed duplicates at all? Am I the worst of the offenders? I know I've done it once, but in my defense the not-so-breaking news was being covered in a thread that had started on a separate topic, and said thread was a number of threads down when I arrived. I received a gentle nudge, and I was more careful going forward. I would prefer not to consolidate, but I can go with the flow if people want to change that.

I'm not in favor of one daily thread. There really are various topics and it would get unwieldy fast. Not to mention, some topics go on for more than one day and the thread continues.

I am also not in favor of a single daily thread.

Sometimes the thread names are kind of vague so it may help to just be more specific there.
I mean, "trump is an evil narcissist" is certainly accurate, but it doesn't exactly point out what evil narcissist-y thing he did most recently.

Un-cited information is at the top of my list. I can probably overlook the rest.

I'm wondering how long ago that poll was done. I know I should keep up with his latest catastrophes but, damn, I'm so worn out by it all now. Here, TV, sites. It's become too much and knowing he loves the fact that he's daily news and on everyone's mind several times a day makes me hate it and him even more. OK, vent over. For now.
