Heat for low back pain:
There is the traditional hot pad that must be plugged in. It's hard to keep it on the spot where you need it and you can't move around.
Thermacare patches contain a material that heats up when exposed to the air - i.e. when you open the package. You can stick them wherever you need it. Ignore the body part named on the package and buy the least expensive one that works for you. One will last all day. For me, the other brands don't work well... and forget about the smelly ones (usually mentolatum) or the homeopathic Salonpas.
TENS (transcutaneous electronic nerve stimulation) machines work very well for some people. Twenty years ago they were very expensive and you had to have a prescription. Now there are several brands that are affordable sold OTC in drug stores. I've seen a new wireless one advertised on TV with the name of a popular pain reliever pill. You have to change the batteries now and then.
I am very fond of the seat heater in my car seat ... it's in exactly the right place for me and I use it all the time even if it is hot outside.

Good morning Michelynn and all to follow,
Thanks for the back pain remedies! My arthritis is somewhat in remission at the moment and I'm grateful for the relief. I go through periodic cycles of flairs/remission.
I got my hair colored yesterday - it's gradually going darker in an attempt to get back to my original dark strawberry. We're just about there. Picked up a few things at Old Navy and Ulta afterward. Today I'm meeting two friends at a coastal cafe for lunch and then we're going to a talk about swallow-tail kites at the national wildlife refuge. Beyond that, nothing much coming up this week.
Hope you all have a happy Sunday!

Good morning everyone!!
Michelynn, your knowledge seems to be endless. Might you know of any ways to reduce gall bladder an?? I can't see myself sitting around for two weeks just to see the surgeon. I will loss a lot of the strength that I have regained since Feb. and my daily steps will go way down hill.
Maryenne, your day sounds like it will be fun. Enjoy!!
As for us, I am going to take a bath, slowly, and maybe try to make a trip to Target. I may just send DH on his own.
Take care all and have a wonderful Sunday! Remember to give thanks for what we all have.
Peg

Good morning everyone!
I've been AWOL a few days due to computer issues. I'm hoping they are resolved now, but things still seem a little sluggish so may have to take it back to Geek Squad. We'll see.
Nothing new is going on here, so just having my coffee and checking to see what I have missed online. It's interesting how it doesn't seem that long ago computers were not really a part of my life, and now without my computer I feel totally lost. Not so sure that's a good thing, but I do enjoy it when it's working!
Waving hello to all who come later, and wishing each of you a lovely day!

Beautiful fall weather in Kansas.
I am a fan of the old fashioned heating pad too. I had four back procedures earlier in the year and still get muscle pulls and spasms at times and the heating pad becomes my friend.
Gall bladder pain is awful -- prescription strength pain killers are about all I know that will ease it a bit. I really didn't have a lot of the really bad pain - in fact, I thought all the pain was due to my back issues but once the gall bladder was removed I realized that part of the pain was due to the gall bladder. It was initially diagnosed because my blood and liver counts changed drastically.
Have a wonderful Sunday afternoon.

Peg - I hope you are getting some medical attention for that gall bladder!
Michelynn - Thanks for the back pain remedies. Heat is one thing the orthopod recommended. I have a plug in heating pad.
I went to a memorial service yesterday for an instrument maker who used to go into museums and measure old instruments so that he could replicate them. I have two of his flutes and two of his recorders that were my mother's. The music was intended to show the range of the instruments he made. It was fantastic. I saw many old friends since the whole Boston Early Music community came to the service.
Today I am making apple crisp to bring to the potluck lunch tomorrow for Rosh Hashannah. I haven't cooked desserts for a long time. Tonight is the first service, a short, very quiet service that I particularly enjoy each year.
We had a condo association meeting scheduled today, but not everyone came so that task is still undone. I have made a budget to explain to everyone why we need to raise the condo fees, but I don't think they want to do it. They don't want to do the work the house needs nor do they want to pay to hire someone. I sometimes feel like I am the only grownup in the house.
Have a good Sunday everyone.

Good evening friends. Joyce, my sympathies for your technology woes! Peg, I am sorry it is taking so long for your gall bladder to be attended to! Michelynn, thank you for the medical inform that you provide to all of us! Your thorough research is much appreciated! Maryenne, I hope you enjoyed the bird talk! Esther, the service for your friend sounds lovely. What a terrific gift he shared with the community. Smith, hope you had a great day. We went to the fall fest at the winery this afternoon. We were disappointed by the few craft vendors and the extremely loud music. The wine was great, the food choices were few and not tempting, other than the oysters! We did have a nice time visiting with our friends. This coming week I am running errands with my sister, going to an author event with my BFF and getting my hair done. Busy week! Greetings to anyone I missed. Enjoy the evening. Lynn
