Morning.
I did nothing yesterday after work. I needed to. But I crashed on the couch and MG let me sleep far too late.
Today is probably a run with YF after work. Then I need to finish up removing hooks from the house (yes, it is a 2 day job!) and look at how I want to repair siding issues on the house and a shed.
Today has already been a trial at work; maybe it will calm down now.

Good Morning Ladies: This am has been busy with trip details/confirmations/etc. I need to go pickup some meds and need to mop..which is a big deal as I do it one room at a time--with rests; and laundry. Dinner last night was my neighbor at Texas Roadhouse. Delish broiled shrimp. Have other half for tonight.

Thought I posted yesterday, oooops. Went to the Montrose sanctuary area, hoping to see some unique shorebirds. No luck, but did see a load of gorgeous Caspian Terns wheeling and diving at several points during the 5k walk home along the lakefront. I stopped at the Jarvis Sanctuary on the way home, and saw one of my favorites, back for the season-a lovely Green Heron. It was waaaaay far back in the pond, but I was able to see it so very happy. Sophia and I went out in the afternoon for the ponds circuit-pretty quiet as it had been a v cold overnight and chilly day. We did see some swallows, and checked in on our lovely owl friends.
I have got to make my risotto today. I'm making the Potsticker Noodle Bowls for the meat eaters club meal with Erik tomorrow.
It's supposed to rain this week, so I'm making my check-off list for a deep clean. Little by little, bits of my Sweetie are disappearing. I put away all the little blankies I had on every chair seat. I'll do the furniture move floor clean, so after that it'll just be my hair everywhere, no more cat fur.
Newcastle plays Wed, running down towards the end of the season. It's amazing they're in 6th place, despite having many of our starting players out w serious injuries on and off throughout most of the season. Several guys aren't even going to be back until much later, into the new season. 😢

Howdy!
Yesterday was SUCH a nice day. The whole long weekend was perfect. I had just enough things to do and just enough rest.
I did yoga yesterday morning then pulled weeds in the garden for an hour, so now I’m sore from being bent over the weeds and from yoga. Go me! 😁 My hands ache quite a lot, so I’m going to take something.
Bossman is out this week. Yay! I don’t have any major looming deadlines, so I’ll be able to start a couple of new projects. I’m happy about that because the work I’ve been doing lately has been nothing but a grind.
Have a great day!

My risotto was perfect! Yay! Thanks for the SweetieLove. (((My dear friends!))) I have her collar with the bell and tags hung under where I hang my birding hat. I touch it so I can hear the noises I loved to hear when she used to trot over to me when I came home.

Greetings!
Only one more "Bueller, Bueller?" session remains. That will be on Friday when I do the review session for the other half of the material on the final exam. I'm still busy through Friday 5/3 since I have to give two sets of exams for each class thanks to members of the track team being out of town for the second half of next week. Tomorrow is the final lab practical exam but next Tuesday I have two students who need to take previous practical exams that they missed *rolls eyes* There will not be any extra credit available on any of these exams as I'm just tired of the students not putting forth much effort.
We are having a special faculty assembly Thursday to talk more about all the news that was dropped last Friday. We figure that nobody will know if they will be cut until the week after graduation. Administration wants us all to get through finals and participate in commencement. But the news is weighing heavy on everyone's minds. In the corporate world, cuts would like be made at the higher-paying positions to maximize cost savings. But this is academia. We have some long-term members who barely generate student credit hours (tuition) yet are in protected classes due to age, gender, race. So we will likely cut the more productive, younger members instead who aren't paid nearly as much as the older faculty. In the end, this will not solve our budget nor student retention issues. We also have way too much fixed overhead and debt. I really don't see how things will turn around as all institutions know that the enrollment cliff is coming in 2026 - far less students graduating from high school at that time. It is depressing especially how I've seen the institution grow until its peak in 2015 and now steadily decline.
On a more happy topic, my photos from Sunday's hike are up on FB. Less than 2 weeks until I'm up in the Porcupine Mountains! The remaining balance for my cabin was processed yesterday. This Saturday I'm just up to southern Wisconsin for the day to volunteer at a hiking event. I'll go early or stay later to do some hiking on my own.
Have a great day!

Morning.
The girls and I got out to the neighboring town's Mexican restaurant that is owned by the same family, but has a slightly different flavor to their food. They also have a selection of hand mixed margaritas. We apparently needed them last night.
MG has been wanting to put down weed and feed on the lawn and prepare to power wash. Between the wind and last night's storms, that hasn't happened yet. Tomorrow is MamaMG's birthday and it is YF's biopsy. MG wants to take his Mom to "his park" in KC. She still talks to him and he feels her with him, although it's not a creepy sort of thing. It's things like "reset the clock for daylight savings" or him quietly acknowledging her while doing something. He is one that remembers dates of things for decades and brings back memories and replays them in his mind. I told him that I would go with him if he wanted me but if he wants to be alone with her I understand.
This weekend is a 5k in Manhattan with a whole crew of ladies. I have really slacked off on the running program. I am sure that I will complete the race, but I doubt there will be any land speed record set.

Good Morning Ladies: Another awesome day. Making 3 flavors of deviled eggs for bookclub; veggie ones with 3 colors of peppers and green onions; bacon ones and shrimp ones. Also need to do laundry and go to Publix for meds and BOGO's. First, I have to play here. Finished a short series on Netflix last night that was good to me. The Gentlemen. by Guy Ritchie so you know it is a bit weird.

Good morning!
I am taking an "office day" at work today--staying in my office and doing paperwork. So far I have called a grandparent/guardian about an IEP and placement for next year. Instead, I have talked to co-workers and watched as the principal, a couple of co-workers, and a custodian mop the floor and take apart the air conditioner in the room. There is a leak and there was water all over the other side of the room.
Five more bus duties to go!!!! The principal came and talked to me about next year. He is asking to have my replacement hired to learn from me next year. Also, two of our paraprofessionals are retiring and will not be able to work full-time, so we need the manpower. Our department is mostly new people. There is one person that has been here longer than I have, but he is not department chair material, and is going to retire soon, too. The rest have been here six years, three years, two years, and 3 months. I have been here 11 years and taught for a bazillion, so that's a big difference in experience.
DH will be home tonight, but I don't know what time. I will wait and see when he will be home before I decide what to do for dinner. I ate chili from the freezer for dinner last night. I will finish that for lunch today.
I had better get on this paperwork. I hope you all have a wonderful day!

Howdy,
Man oh man, being off on Monday screws up the days in my head. Yesterday was a quiet day, mostly, and I think today will be, too.
I don’t really have any plans for the weekend, which I’m looking forward to. It’s supposed to rain.
Did I mention the sourdough starter? The chef who taught my class Saturday has kept the same starter alive for 12 years. I mentioned that to Mom and she said she’s always wanted to do that, so I got it started on Monday. I’m eager to make something with it.
Have a good day!

Greetings!
I was able to start my lab setup much earlier for a change so left campus at 5:30pm! Today is the final practical exam. Busy day as we are also doing departmental awards and then I have a Zoom meeting tonight with my hiking group - the one that I volunteer at this Saturday and the Sunday after commencement. Time is finally accelerating!
Have a great day!

Good morning!
DH got home not long after I did yesterday. Boy, was Jordan happy to see him!!! We went to see a friend at a new restaurant near us.
Tonight is Rick and Morty trivia. I know about three things about Rick and Morty, so I should do well...NOT. I don't know if we will even go, since DH knows even less than I do.
I still haven't heard from DS3 about coming to Nashville. I am going to have DH call and see what is going on. I really want to see them when we go to Nashville this weekend.
I got two IEP addendums, one Review of Records, a phone call in to a parent, and a conference with the student done yesterday. I may have been able to do more, but it was enough. As exhausting as teaching is, it is an exhilarating kind of tired. The tired from sitting and doing paperwork all day is a brain dead kind of tired. I am not meant to be a paper pusher.
I better get back to work--Domain and Range, anyone?
I hope you all have a great day!

Howdy!
The sourdough starter is growing and bubbling! What a fun project! I start twice-a-day feedings today. There are a zillion people on the interwebs telling how to do this and many of them are different. I’m sticking with what the King Arthur Flour website says to do, and they say we should be able to use the starter in 7 days. Some other sites say 14 days. We’ll see how it goes.
I was absolutely dragging yesterday for no good reason. I’ll have to hustle today to make up for all the screwing around I did.
Have a great day!

Happy Friday Eve!
The awards ceremony yesterday was really nice! Had a great turnout of graduating seniors and those being inducted into the Biological Science honor society (TriBeta). My colleague/friend did a great job with getting all the food and decorations put together. I know it was a TON of work as she also got roped into sending out all the email invites over the weekend. Since the university has no funds, all of us faculty contributed money to make it happen. I got to say a few words about the student who is helping me this semester as she got an award along with another student I had in class last spring who is volunteering at the retirement community for my colleague. Both are wonderful young women who excel at their academics and have a drive to be of service to others. Neither one knew they were going to get an award so that made it even more special!
The lab exam went well with the majority of the students doing just fine, as they should given how much practice they have had this semester /// I got the slides ready for tomorrow's review session and have started pulling together the exam. I hope to finish most of it today as I don't have much scheduled other than one advising appointment and a special faculty assembly.
Looking forward to this weekend. Up in Wisconsin on Saturday to volunteer and hike. Sunday will be working in the yard and catching up on personal paperwork since I will be gone the following weekend on my long trip. Of course rain is in the forecast both days. Well, that will make it easier to pull the weeds out of the flowerbeds. The weeds have certainly taken advantage of me ignoring the yard.
Have a great day!

Morning.
I did take off yesterday. But YF didn't want to bother anyone since her DH was going to drive her to the appointment. MG sat at home waiting for a call from his brother in NV to discuss where they could meet each other. Bro was heading this general direction and MG was going to make plans to see him in Dodge City. MG spent the day power washing the house. I woke up with a killer headache and spent the day off napping rather than accomplishing anything productive. I hate it when I take a sick day and then wind up legit sick. It's grey today and has been sprinkling this morning. That's probably what added to yesterday's headache.
I will probably head to the lumberyard this afternoon and ask advice on how best to repair some of the issues with the house and sheds. I've been watching youtube videos like crazy to learn some of the techniques to caulk and seal some of the things that won't need replacing.
Today is vacation Friday! Once I'm done with today, we'll have a two-week timer going that I will be racing against to get the bulk of the remodeling project going. Wish me luck!

Good morning!
The subject matter of the trivia was changed to current events. We won! DH counted up the amount we had saved up in gift cards and it was over $100. We used part of it to pay our bill last night. We shared a huge salad and some pretzel bites, which was the perfect amount of food.
GN will either be BINGO or going to listen to the guy that plays records of local musicians at a brewery. There is no food at the brewery, so we will have to eat out before we get there or order to go food.
I hope you all have a great day!

Howdy!
I’m thinking that for my birthday I’m going to buy myself a month of private yoga classes. I have gotten so unbendy over the last few months due to the ear/dizzyness issue that I’m embarrassed. Maybe some one-on-one classes would shame me enough to make me do more yoga between classes. 😁 Sort of like how I practice piano/violin so I won’t be embarrassed at my lesson.
Remember back in December when we sold Mom’s car? There was an issue with the title that finally got resolved and we got the title and I delivered it to the buyer yesterday. Yay! Mom told me to keep the check because it was such a chore to get the title issue straightened out (and because I keep her bank account filled anyway). It’s a 2002 car with only 65,000 miles on it, so not a huge check, but enough that I may use it for private yoga classes and tell Mom that’s what she got me for my birthday (in June).
I need to get off my rear. Have a great day!

TGIF!
Today is the last instructional day of the semester. Next week is final exams. While this should be a happy time, the looming cuts are weighing on everyone's minds. Yesterday's faculty assembly didn't provide much clarity on what administration will be doing. No idea about any severance pay, no idea of how they will make the cuts, nothing. The only thing that is for certain is that if we don't make cuts now, then probably everyone will be out of a job in another year as we will run out of unrestricted endowment to patch the gaping holes in the budget. Several long-term faculty are completely opposed to any cuts. Seriously? You can't do the math? Decision making by faculty committees has never gone well in my opinion. Small wonder so many institutions are closing. I feel bad for the interim provost. He has been here for decades and got pulled back out of retirement when the previous provost quit last summer. This is just a 1 year appointment for him. He is the one who ultimately has to decide which faculty are let go. He looked absolutely miserable in yesterday's meeting trying to field the questions from the faculty. I spent the rest of the day and night depressed as I realized that I'm very much at risk as I am probationary faculty. Yes, there is another senior faculty member with tenure that could be redeployed to do what I do. He is the former dean who got demoted in the restructure and is still drawing a big salary. Tenure wins in this case. I won't know anything for at least another 2+ weeks. Ugh.
Let's hope the students today aren't just a bunch of bumps on a log for the last review session.
Have a great day!

Good morning!
GN was fun, as always. We played bingo and enjoyed talking to each other. I may be a beast at trivia, but I have absolutely no luck at bingo. It was still fun.
Did I tell you all about DS2's car getting hit in Portland? Long story short--what looked like a scraped bumper turned out to be a broken tire arm and a totaled car. We got a decent amount for the car to help buy a new-to-him car.
DS1 finds out his bar exam scores today. Fingers crossed for a passing grade!
DH and I will take off for Nashville in a couple of hours. DS3 has not gotten back to either of us about seeing them this time. I will try his wife as we are traveling that way. We have nothing planned for tomorrow or Sunday, so we should be able to work in a bit of time that works for them.
I hope you all have a wonderful day!

Hello weekend!
All that remains of the spring semester is final exams and commencement. We also finally finished discussing all the students that came through our recommendations committee yesterday. We lost several Fridays due to special events and meetings.
Off to Wisconsin soon, just for the day.

Morning Ladies: Yesterday was a great B-day lunch for friends. (I bought their lunch (twins) and all of us some deserts from Columbian Bakery). Labs took too long. DGS13 and DD came over last night so we caught up on our HGTV shows. I finally got all of the floors done (just downstairs-pewp on a cracker). Today is a friend coming for visit/tea followed by a memorial service later and then pay bills and look for outfits for retreat. Need a mani and pedi and a haircut.....my kinky curls are taking over.

Howdy!
I found an Ashtanga yoga teacher who takes private clients on weekends. Squee! We’re having a phone call at 10 this morning.
My sourdough starter is being temperamental. Apparently it is common for it to quit growing for a few days, but I was really hoping to use it to make a loaf of bread today. Mom has been asking when it will be ready because she’s been hankering for homemade bread, so I may make a loaf of regular-with-yeast-instead-of-sourdough bread. I so wish I had messaged the chef who taught my class last week and asked for some of her starter. (The school is just a couple of miles from my office.) Every time starter is fed, half of it is thrown out or given away, so she said she always has some extra. I’m sure mine will be fine, but if it’s not, I’ll be in another of this chef’s classes in a couple of weeks.
It’s crazy windy here and is supposed to be stormy tonight and tomorrow. I’ll go to the garden this afternoon to get in another hour of volunteer time.
Have a great day!
ETA: Yoga chick never called. Pffft!
