What’s on your mind – how to make kugel? This week’s Torah reading? Life goals? Prayer? We are all engaged in weight loss/weight maintenance journeys and we are all Jewish or at least interested in Judaism. We like to eat, we like to discuss. It is our goal here to provide each other support on our journeys, to share experiences, to call on our rich cultural heritage and texts, and to help each other grow spiritually.
Some of us take weekly turns starting the thread:

As I said yesterday, this week’s Torah portion is Lech L’cha, Genesis 12:1 – 17:27. For those who follow the triennial cycle, this is the first year. We read Gen 12:1 – 13:18. Here is the breakdown:
1: 12:1-3 2: 12:4-9 3: 12:10-13 4: 12:14-20 5: 13:1-4 6: 13:5-11 7: 13:12-18
And here’s the second reading (aliyah)
4 And Abram went, as the Lord had spoken to him, and Lot went with him, and Abram was seventy five years old when he left Haran.
5 And Abram took Sarai his wife and Lot his brother's son, and all their possessions that they had acquired, and the souls they had acquired in Haran, and they went to go to the land of Canaan, and they came to the land of Canaan.
6 And Abram passed through the land, until the place of Shechem, until the plain of Moreh, and the Canaanites were then in the land.
7 And the Lord appeared to Abram, and He said, "To your seed I will give this land," and there he built an altar to Adonai, Who had appeared to him.
8 And he moved from there to the mountain, east of Beth el, and he pitched his tent; Beth el was to the west and Ai was to the east, and there he built an altar to Adonai, and he called in the name of Adonai.
9 And Abram traveled, continually traveling southward.
If you start whatever journey you go on, do you stop from time to time to acknowledge what you’ve accomplished? Do you express gratitude? I’m not asking whether you build a physical altar, just whether, in your own way, you acknowledge your accomplishments…
I got home about 7pm (the adult ed class was GREAT!!!), had some dinner with DH, watched The Blacklist (we recorded it the other day), and came upstairs to check what’s been going on all day (a small ton of emails, for one…). And now it’s getting warm (I’m still wearing the sweater I put on in the evening when the weather started dipping).
I don’t always acknowledge my accomplishments. I do sometimes, ladies, but not always. One example: I happen to be a very good bnai mitzvah teacher, and I do acknowledge that. However, yesterday, one of my students became bat mitzvah and the compliments I received (as the person who prepared her) weren’t the run of the mill ones I usually get (okay, yes, I did get my share of those too). One person in particular commented on something the girl did and the person pointed out that there was no way she could have done that particular thing without someone’s showing her the way. I tried to deflect, but the woman wouldn’t let me. I acknowledged for her benefit, but as I was acknowledging I realized she was right, that I really did do more than just plain teach the girl Torah trop (cantillation, the specific melodies used to chant Torah) and haftarah trop (ditto for the reading from the Prophets) and blessings.
How about you?

Stopping along the way to acknowledge my accomplishments is not something I do. I should do it, but I don't.

What a wonderful point! Half the time I don't even acknowledge my accomplishments when they are completed, let alone along the way. There are exceptions, like I loved every single row of the last Kippah I made and was very proud of it when it was completed. There are certainly also times in the course of my work that I see what the problem is and come up with a solution - I do feel gratified when that happens and as the situation resolves. But I often brush aside the successes and focus on what's lacking. This point of actually acknowledging along the way and feeling gratitude for each step is a good one to remember. I never really thought of these verses in that way, so thank you!
About successes: the desserts were very well received. The trays looked beautiful, everything was delicious, and there was plenty. We had bar/bat mitzvahs 3 weeks in a row and everyone use the same caterer so it's the same old, (delicious) same old. But not the dessert tables at this last one! Couldn't have been more pleased with the result - I had a wonderful crew and it was a labor of love for all of us. And the velvets - the response was huge. I got many compliments. I did tell the vendor I would be sending back the valance but everything else was A-OK.

Boker Tov All! It's funny you mention this......
I'm on 2 WL-related FB sites (both started on the WW Message Boards): 1. Frustrated Slow Losers & 2. 100 Pounds to Lose. Neither is limited to people following WW. Both are closed groups & you must be brought in by someone. People (especially on the 100 #) post before & after pics all the time - and they almost always say they don't really see that they look so very different. (Trust me, the difference is usually quite dramatic!) I pointed out to one lady the other day that she not only looked considerably thinner, she looked a lot younger too!
I'm always surprised when people like my poetry & songs. My guitar playing is certainly not what it would be if I gave it more time. (I don't remember who, but one violinist said that if he didn't practice every single day, after 1 week he noticed a difference, and after 2 weeks his audience would notice a difference!) Yes, always with the minimizing!
I don't now if it's a women's trait - I think men don't do it so much. A man gets a compliment, he says: Damn straight!
I'm getting ready to go to the pool.
My anxiety level about tomorrow is off the charts! (we voted by mail 2 weeks ago)
Have a good day ladies

Do I express gratitude? Nope. Do I acknowledge accomplishments? Nope. Do I sit in judgement of myself and criticize harshly? Yup. Can you rewired my brain, please?

I do stop to check my progress and express gratitude, maybe not for everything that I should, but gratitude is important to me, and trying to be aware of and remember where I am and who I am is also important.
I did get up early to go to the gym this morning, and it felt GREAT! Now let's see if I make it tomorrow...I have to work late tonight, so I will do some stretching to relax and wind down when I get home. DH and DS25 are cooking, hooray!

Hi everybody. I just wanted to look in and tell you that I'm fine, I've just been alternating between being really busy and being really tired (sometimes both at the same time). I will try to do some writing here soon. How I'm going to lead next week I haven't figured out yet, but I will try. At least, I think I can do it. If not, I will ask for help.
Have a peaceful night; I'm going to bed soon as once again I am exhausted. I feel pretty good, just very tired. Take care everybody, Lee
