What’s on your mind — how to make kugel? This week’s Torah reading? Life goals? Prayer? We are all engaged in weight loss/weight maintenance journeys and we are all Jewish or at least interested in Judaism. We like to eat, we like to discuss. It is our goal here to provide each other support on our journeys, to share experiences, to call on our rich cultural heritage and texts, and to help each other grow spiritually.
Some of us take weekly turns starting the thread:

As I’ve been saying, this week’s Torah portion is Lech L’cha, Genesis 12:1 – 17:27. For those who follow the triennial cycle, this is the first year. We read Gen 12:1 – 13:18. Here is the breakdown:
1: 12:1-3 2: 12:4-9 3: 12:10-13 4: 12:14-20 5: 13:1-4 6: 13:5-11 7: 13:12-18
Here is the fifth reading (aliyah)
1 And Abram came up from Egypt, he and his wife and all that was his, and Lot with him, to the south.
2 And Abram was very heavy with cattle, with silver, and with gold.
3 And he went on his journeys, from the south and until Beth el, until the place where his tent had been previously, between Beth el and between Ai.
4 To the place of the altar that he had made at first, and Abram called there in the name of Adonai.
What are you “heavy with” (see v 2)? Where are you going on your journey? from where and to where? And what part does Adonai play in your journey? What part does WW play in it? What part (if any) do the rest of us play in it?

Hi everybody. I didn't sleep much last night, and have been up since 3AM. I am very upset about the election, and had to help DS to get centered too. I will try and comment on today's topic later, but right now I am not feeling up to it. Try to have a peaceful day, Lee

Haven't read today's topic yet. Absolutely aghast at what happened last night.

Today I am "heavy" with yesterday's news! That is all I can say right now - I'm numb and absolutely raw.

Abraham may have been "heavy" with cattle and gold, This morning, I am thinking of a different heavy. Heavy with depression, sadness, fear, etc. I would like to crawl under a blanket and not come out for awhile, but I know that's not really a solution. I'm in too much shock to think straight.

My rabbi called for a special service this evening.

I am still reeling from the shock too. I am heavy with fear and apprehension. I totally underestimated the voting power of those who elected this man.

I am sick in the pit of my stomach and I'm a Republican (but didn't vote for him). But take heart, sisters. He will quickly learn he is not an Emperor and the Congress passes the laws, not him. Our system of checks and balances will hold.
If he does manage to make a few small steps toward increasing prosperity and unleashing entrepreneurs, that could be OK. It's just not as quick and easy as he thinks. I can live with a conservative replacement for Judge Anthony Scalia to keep the same balance in the Supreme Court as we had before. And if he reduces the flow of drugs over the border and deports criminal illegals, that would be a good thing. He's not going to magically put up a wall. If he actually can do something to address the problems of crime in the inner cities, I'm OK with that too. It was scary growing up in Chicago. And if he keeps the U.S. from being flooded with Muslims who can't be vetted, I'm not offended by that. Rather be safe than sorry. I wouldn't want the U.S. to be inundated with the problems that Germany and France and Italy have with their Muslim populations who are unable to assimilate and adopt European values and culture. Many parts of his domestic goals are not unappealing, though they are largely undoable. I can give him credit for aiming to make the country more prosperous, safer, etc. I wish him well. He won't be able to do much. The kind of sweeping changes he talks about are campaign rhetoric.
It's in the arena of foreign affairs that I am much more worried. He has no background, no understanding, nothing. I'm not afraid he will start a war. I'm afraid he will be so isolationist that American influence and leadership in world affairs will be non-existent. International power vacuums don't last long. Other nations will quickly push themselves forward to take that world leadership role, and I sure don't want it to be Iran or Russia. I'll pray that he'll allow himself to be guided by people who do know what they are doing.
As to his personality and character, I'll hold my nose and hope that he will rise to the occasion and be a better man.

I'm numb.
Thank you, Frieda, for being a sane voice.

Hi all, Sorry I have been MIA. Life has been busy. I figured I'd come and join in our feelings of the results of the election. DS has 2 bottom teeth, he got them during Sukkot! He is growing along fine, 25.75 inches and 16.5 pounds. Just came from his six month check up. He is slowly transitioning to bottles, as I should be back on my meds in Dec. Everyone is happy and healthy. Hope everyone is well. Tamara
