What’s on your mind — how to make kugel? This week’s Torah reading? Life goals? Prayer? We are all engaged in weight loss/weight maintenance journeys and we are all Jewish or at least interested in Judaism. We like to eat, we like to discuss. It is our goal here to provide each other support on our journeys, to share experiences, to call on our rich cultural heritage and texts, and to help each other grow spiritually.
Some of us take weekly turns starting the thread:
Frieda (hopefully)? Holly Lee Louise Lynne Peachy
And for those of you that stop by to read this thread without posting — you are welcome to, but you are also welcome to chime in. Don’t be shy! What’s on your mind — how to make kugel? PLEASE NOTE: THIS IS THE THREAD FOR TUESDAY, NOT MONDAY!
Tuesday is Mardi Gras; I’ll be out celebrating with my friends this evening. The night before Mardi Gras (“erev Mardi Gras”), officially called Lundi Gras, is when we tend to have most of our fun. I will be back tomorrow morning - probably not too early! - to post on the subject of the day.
Until the, “laissez les bon temps roulez”! (And my sincere condolences that not everyone is lucky enough to live in NOLA on Mardi Gras day.)

Good morning everybody. Hope you are all well and SAFE! Please pray for Israel. Re today's topic: gazelle18, You made me smile. Have fun! Right now, I am watching it snow (ugh) and listening to it rain; the weather is yucky but thank goodness, DS and I can stay indoors today. We have a bunch of chores to do, plus DS has a tele-med appointment and a zoom call later. For whatever reason, today I am feeling much more hopeful about my endocrinologist getting the Wegovy pre-approval situation with BC/BS and CVS Caremark settled today. Yesterday, I hoped things would work out; they didn't, and I ended up feeling anxious and miserable. However, today as I said, I am feeling much better. I really, really, really hope that she gets the information to them that is necessary, and that I will be approved. As far as I know, all that is necessary is that she calls them, or maybe even has a staff person call them. I will be patient; I will, I will, I will. AND I will keep you posted!! Yikes, the snow is coming down in huge fluffy lumps, mixed with the rain. I hope it stops soon! Have a peaceful day, Lee

"Lundi" = Monday (I remember some of my high school French). That makes tomorrow Ash Wednesday. Almost always, Easter is the first Sunday after the first seder; however, not this year. I checked; Easter is March 31 and Passover is three weeks later. VERY unusual.
I've never been to New Orleans, although I think I know how to pronounce it. It's almost like "norlinz" and not at all like two separate words, and certainly not "New" anything at all. Lynne, can you shed any light on that?
There used to be a series on TV called Las Vegas (initially starring James Caan). One episode took place in New Orleans and I find, as I'm typing this, that I'm playing it in my head right now!

Snowing pretty hard right now but they are saying only 3-6" so that's not so bad. Very glad I don't have to go out in it. My nephew and family are in London for a semester. I'm planning to spend a weekend with them next month. Figuring out the air stuff is more complicated than I expected I guess because so many routes. So I have that for today and studying megillah. That's 2 kinds of tedious hopefully with good rewards at the end.
My food was actually reasonable yesterday and exercise not terrible. Only about 6000 steps + upperbody. Today I will do lower body. Not likely to go out walking but would LOVE to get myself to do an aerobic DVD. I think these would be good thngs in between the other on my arse stuff! !

I actually have a "voodoo doll" that my old boss got me when she went to New Orleans for a business trip. It has no magical power, other than to amuse my cat, who likes to curl up with it while basking in the sunlight that comes through the windows of my home office.
I'm off pretty soon to the dermatologist for my annual checkup - I got the first appointment of the morning, right at 8 a.m., which is my preferred time for all medical appointments. BBL!

Officially jealous (as I always am) that you live in NOLA gazelle18,! I cannot imagine how much fun it is during Mardi Gras, living there. I know how much fun it is without Mardi Gras and how lovely and gracious everyone is, always making sure you have a great time. Stay safe and have a wonderful time (and a hurricane for me please!)

I hope Louise and Lee remain warm and inside today ! I have actually only experienced actively falling snow a few times in my life. Once it actually snowed here, but that was decades ago!
Holly, in answer to your question, there are 2 acceptable ways to pronounce New Orleans. If you are using the local accent, you can say “N’Awlins.” Most people, including me, say “New Orlinz.” It is NEVER “New Orleenz.”
It is such a sight here. Everyone is dressed in costume. The official colors are purple, green and gold, a combination that would look ridiculous anywhere else. A couple of minutes ago, a middle aged man with a pronounced gut walked by. He was wearing purple tights, a green net tutu, and a sequined gold tank top. He was of course, carrying a beer.
Happy Tuesday!

Back again. I haven't heard anything from my endocrinologist, BC/BS or CVS Caremark about the Wegovy, but I am still feeling better than yesterday.
Re pancakes: I wanted to take DS out for pancakes (IHOP is having a special), but oh well. Tomorrow will be fine, even without the free pancakes.
Re costumes/fancy outfits: Tomorrow is Valentines Day, so I think I will wear my Barbie shirt (hot pink). I do have a red shirt, but I like the pink one better.
Have a happy and peaceful rest of the day, Lee
