Good morning!
I am feeling determined this morning to get in better shape healthwise. I've been too lax, and I guess living in a dream world where I seem to think that somehow the health rules don't really apply to me. Stupid I know, and I am beating myself up about it because in truth I KNOW better! I went to the knee surgeon yesterday. The first thing he said to me was, "I will not do surgery on you until you get your A1C down. The danger of infection is too great." That made my head spin. No one had ever said anything just like that to me before. To be honest, it scared me.
He said until then we can continue with injections. He would have done an injection yesterday, but I was in such shock for some reason I didn't say let's go ahead and do it. I was kicking myself about that before I could even get home. So I called back and now have an appointment the 21st for an injection.
I have not been walking now for several months, but that ends today even if my knee does hurt. One of the large churches near me has an indoor walking track that is available to the public for just $20 a year. I'm joining that today. It is too hot to walk outside. Yesterday was a wake up call I really needed, and it got my attention.

Joyce, I know just how you feel! I'm sorry it has been a shock to you, but maybe we can share here what we're doing to be healthier. We can be accountable to each other. How will you work to get your A1C down? I need to get my weight down at least 10 pounds, but here we are eating pasta and ice cream every night! I think I won't be able to avoid the ice cream until I go home next Monday, because it's a ritual with Thomas. I also need to greatly increase my water intake, so I don't get any more UTIs.
This morning I've had two cups of coffee, a peach yogurt, and a piece of whole wheat toast with butter. Later I'll have some fruit and figure out what to cook for dinner. Cathleen's refrigerator is slam-full and it's hard to see what's in there. James did some purging the other day after I complained, but he says Cathleen owns the kitchen LOL.
I did some YouTube yoga this morning and then some Chinese Qi Gong and it seemed to ease my back some.
Here's to our good health!

maryenne , "Here's to our good health!" I definitely join you in toasting that! My first plan for getting my A1C down is to start walking again. I know I won't be able to do much, but I will build up my tolerance and after the injection should be able to do a lot more. Also like you, we've been getting very lax in our eating habits here at home -- a little something sweet here and there, soon adds up to way too much. So that stops for me today. Nick has agreed to walk with me. We'll see how long that lasts. We went to the walking track this morning, but unfortunately (for us) the church is holding Vacation Bible School this week, so we can't walk during the mornings this week. We are going to go back this afternoon. Thankfully the church is not far from us -- maybe 3 miles.

Good afternoon!
I am jumping on the improve our health bus with you. I am starting with more water and creating a walking habit. We can check in here with each other. My eating has gotten sloppy, too.
The good news is that my rheumatologist appointment went well. All that bloodwork was good.
Sending everyone hugs and wishes for a pop peaceful night. Lynn
