What’s on your mind — how to make kugel? This week’s Torah reading? Life goals? Prayer? We are all engaged in weight loss/weight maintenance journeys and we are all Jewish or at least interested in Judaism. We like to eat, we like to discuss. It is our goal here to provide each other support on our journeys, to share experiences, to call on our rich cultural heritage and texts, and to help each other grow spiritually.
Some of us take weekly turns starting the thread: Frieda (hopefully)? Holly Lee Louise Lynne Peachy
And for those of you that stop by to read this thread without posting — you are welcome to, but you are also welcome to chime in. Don’t be shy!

I had a hard day. I have had possession of a new computer for sometime now and finally need to set it up. My boss already loaded it up with the apps I need for the office but there is still a lot to figure out and to move. Had many setbacks which led me to some run on eating. The good news is that I stopped before my calories went off the rails! The snacks cost me dinner, but I’m okay with that.
And Louisiana thinks the 10 commandments should be in every classroom. You crazy, mon! And we know that someone thinks we should finance the country with tariffs instead of taxes. He still doesn’t get that those tariffs on Chinese goods are paid by us, not the Chinese. This I know firsthand because I print a lot in China and I have to factor in the tariffs when I cost a project out.
I sent in an application to this place that trains people to lead services. I applied a couple of years ago and was rejected. I think the main problem is that they want people who are already more knowledgeable than I am. This year they want a recommendation from a cantor or rabbi and a video mock leading a service. I made the video today – sang musaf to my iPhone over and over until I had (almost) no mistakes. I also told them that if it would help I would try to learn shacharit before their term starts in November (becasue I don’t have enough to do). Then I had to figure out how to upload it. I finally got that done using Google Drive – I don’t have dropbox, etc.
The reason why I have no topic today is because my brain got used up. Tell me a story.

I'm sorry you had a hard day, and I hope today is much better! My hat is off to you for tackling all that computer stuff and not giving up. And good for you for stopping yourself with your eating. That's a pretty great victory, IMO.
Yesterday I stopped at the store on my way home from having my mani-pedi plus massages, to buy some wheat sourdough bread and paper towels. Did I just buy those two things? Hah! This particular store has these lemon drop cookies that I absolutely love. I bought the cookies, then sat in my car and ate six of them, then threw the rest out. When I got home, I figured out my points for the rest of the day. I'd gone to the gym already and had racked up extra points, and it turned out that the damage wasn't that great. I wasn't hungry for much lunch, understandably, so I just had a salad. Of course I got hungry long before dinner, but I had a zero-point snack, then had my normally planned dinner.
So, not a terribly interesting story, but it did have a happy ending. My WI day isn't until tomorrow, but I did get on the scale this morning, and my weight is down, which made me happy. And I learned yesterday that I can fix things after the fact sometimes, at least to some degree. I also discovered that I don't want six of those cookies anymore. I still like them, but they don't feel as irresistible as they used to. I could have stopped after two or three of them. That makes me even happier.

Good afternoon everybody. Hope you are all well and SAFE! Please pray for Israel.
Re today's topic: I've been a busy bee myself. DS and I went to the dentist this morning, and while we were there, made future appointments up through next April (!!). I go every three months and DS goes every six, and the dentists are very popular and make their appointments way in advance.
This afternoon, I have my appointment with my primary care doctor. I still think it was incredibly smart of me to figure out that I could get a tele-med appointment instead of having to be out in the heat (it's in the 90's by the heat index).
Our fig trees are starting to have small figs already! They won't be ripe for another month or so, but it is delightful to see the little fruits and anticipate having them be ripe.
Starting tomorrow, I change my food intake (no fresh fruit or raw vegetables, no nuts or seeds) and some of my medications for the next week before my colonoscopy. I had blueberries and cereal for breakfast today, and enjoyed them a lot.
Is that enough of a story? I hope so. Have a peaceful day, Lee

Once upon a time, a long, long time ago, in a place far away...
Isn't that the way stories begin?
Last Thursday, we got to the airport more than an half hour earlier than the hour and a half the airline requested. Not horrendous, even though I hate sitting around, waiting for something... When (finally) the two people came behind the counter in the waiting room (after going through security), one of them came over to us and asked DH whether he needed a wheelchair (he didn't) or other help to board. Bottom line: she had us follow her and we two were the first people on the plane. Nice, huh!
And yesterday, when I received the email from the airline telling me it was okay to check in (online, which I had done last week too), the "check in" page wouldn't let me. I tried three times. I tried the chat function (it was a bot and incredibly frustrating). I emailed. I texted. I telephoned only to hear that the wait time was more than 30 minutes (this was relatively shortly before dinner) so I hung up. I phoned again before bed and the wait time was over 60 minutes. I called this morning and the wait time was over 90 minutes. I just a few moments ago checked my email and although there were two updated emails from the airline, neither had anything to do with my inability to check in (or print the boarding passes, which they warn you cost $5 each if you wait until you get to the airport and the airline has to print them for you).
So two stories about flying and airlines, one good and one not so good at all...
Glad you did so well juggling calories and so on, Louise. Learning that slipping isn't the end of the world is so important! I offer you a pat on the back.

Sorry you had a hard day , Louise! I am sorry to not have story today. We are on our annual trip to the mountains (Montana), and our dear friends just arrived, and I am kind of distracted. And yes, I am from Louisiana, where the 10 commandments will be posted in every classroom ! Ugh, double ugh, and triple ugh! Living in a red state can be really embarrassing!
