What’s on your mind — how to make kugel? This week’s Torah reading? Life goals? Prayer? We are all engaged in weight loss/weight maintenance journeys and we are all Jewish or at least interested in Judaism. We like to eat, we like to discuss. It is our goal here to provide each other support on our journeys, to share experiences, to call on our rich cultural heritage and texts, and to help each other grow spiritually.
Some of us take weekly turns starting the thread:

And for those of you that stop by to read this thread without posting — you are welcome to, but you are also welcome to chime in. Don’t be shy!

Sorry to be late this morning. I am going to write leads for today and Friday, as I have a dental appointment in the morning.
Good morning everybody. Hope you are all well and SAFE! Please pray for Israel.
Today's topic: Relevant quotes.
My quote is one that is special for me. It's from Micah. "But everyone shall sit under his vine and under his fig tree. And no one shall make them afraid."
I love this quote, and since we have fig trees at our house, it has become more relevant over the years.
What's a quote (or more) that means something to you; about serenity, safety, etc.?
I think mine says a lot in a few words. First, it says that it talks about having your own vine and fig tree. Since Jews have been barred from owning land in so many places, it means a lot to be able to have enough land to plant your own trees. Secondly, "And no one shall make them afraid." Isn't this what everyone wants? To live the way you want without fear? It is so important to me.
I'd welcome your input here.
Have a peaceful day, Lee

Mine would be lyrics from a song from “The King and I”. “Whenever I feel afraid I hold myself erect And whistle a happy tune, And no one will suspect I’m afraid.”

I'm always coming across things but of course now I'm blank. I'll go with something from the torah this past shabbat about letting blessings overtake you. We always think about being in pursuit of them but sometimes you have to wait for them to overtake you.

This is from the Talmud, and you've probably heard it many times: "The true hero is one who converts an enemy into a friend.” (Abot de Rabbi Nathan, ch. 23)
It's not always possible to make an enemy into a friend, but we sure could try a little harder in this world, if not to be friends, at least not to keep killing each other.
Here's a much sweeter quote I like, from A.A. Milne (of all people): "Weeds are flowers too, once you get to know them." Maybe we could see more of the beauty in other people if we stopped thinking of them as weeds/enemies and looked for their potential.
Yes, I know I'm a dreamer...

Peachy, you reminded me of another quote about weeds... that they're just flowers in disguise...
I'll have to think about quotes that resonate with me about serenity / safety...
