Good morning
From yesterday:
CATHY-how did the show go?
BARB-did you get a lot of snow?
BETH-how is the knee? Is surgery out patient?
LIBBY-haven't seen you on the board, hope all is ok and you are just busy after vacation.
AMY-do DDs have any dance competitions with St. Patrick's day in a few months? did you go to Hershey Park when you went a while back? we used to go to CandyLane when it was lit up for Christmas every year. So pretty.
DUTCH-how's Ally? how are you?
BETH-hope the ice is melted and you can get out AMY-is it involved for DD1 to get certification to turn pro for dancing? Does she teach or need to wait for certification? Glad you enjoyed the lesson.
going to a harp chapter meeting tonight with the speaker being a Broadway harpist. (Wicked and Hamilton soundtrack and probably others)-- very curious to hear what she has to say. Hope she plays something . HAGD

Good Morning all - Faye -thanks for the start up! We only got about 3-4" of light fluffy stuff-but VERY cold -0 this morning -but they say by Wed it will be in the 50's - thank goodness I don't have a "weather colic-er" (my 1st OTTB was one -whenever the weather would drastically change we were on colic watch -that is what finally took him down) Your meeting sounds interesting -enjoy!
Faye asked all the questions (above) so I'll just wait for the answers! But will say - Amy -sounds like you and Lukas are getting your acts together -you mentioned something about european shoes -how do they differ? do you put borium on him now?
Errands, groceries and of course cleaning the barn today -then DH & I are going to see Hidden Numbers. Did anyone watch the Golden Globes last night -so happy La La Land won-
Waving to all - stay warm - Ride if you can - HAGD - CBL

Good morning.
Today was the first day of school for the year. DH said the roads were good where he had to drive.
Faye-I haven't done much of anything except sit around the last few days (due to weather) so my knee isn't hurting much. My surgery is outpatient on the 16th.
Barb- I would rather take snow than ice but really want neither.
Cathy-how was your performance?

BARB- i don't think we even got that amount of snow. maybe 2 inches saw the Golden globes. didn't see most of the movies but glad the Crown won. love that. BETH-glad roads are ok. smart to let knee rest before surgery. hopefully recovery will be quicker. . so 1 week from today--hope it does the trick!
waving to all. Painter coming tomorrow and then getting some carpet for the downstairs rooms. Neighbor helped me pick a color. DD will be home this weekend so curious if she likes the same one.
waving to all. HAGD

Hi, all! Faye, I liked The Crown as well (think I still have to watch a couple of episodes). Did you see they are now doing Victoria? What color carpet did you finally pick? Green is still OK, as long as its muted and short Barb, good luck with the windows. My neighbor is having hers done. I'd like to do mine as well. Let me know who you end up using. Beth, glad DH was able to get out in the bus today. Glad the knee is doing OK. I can't believe you guys are getting that cold of weather...brrr... Amy, I love how 'smart' Lukas is in that he stayed in the shed instead of coming to greet you Glad the WL program is going so well! I don't know if I could wear tight clothes all the time...I'm sitting so much that tight jeans makes my reflux act up. Dutch, hope things are warming up a bit for you! The show went well, just long. Lots of issues with tuning for the guest performers. One was a wire harpist (sounds like a harpsicord). She wasn't ready so our group did our set first. After her was a duo, brothers, harp and guitar, very nice! Then a guy from Senegal had issues with his instrument and ended up using the guitar that the guitarist had...sigh. Then we ran late into the baptism but the couple said they didn't mind waiting and listened to the rest of the show. The teen group did their 3 songs then we all did a final song. After that, we had to break stuff down and I wanted to get out of there, but the instructor offered a "petting zoo" where people could try harps and I couldn't get mine in the bag fast enough and ended up talking to people and having folks pluck the strings a bit. Long day... In addition to that, the cat wouldn't eat on Friday, puked both Friday and Saturday, we were supposed to have a HUGE storm roll in on Saturday...just a really stressful day. BUT the cat came out of whatever she was going through, the storm waiting until Saturday evening and all is well Poured all day yesterday, power would flicker out periodically, enough to get all the clocks back to 12:00 (finally just left them alone). Got lots of cleaning done this weekend Cathy

Beth - glad you are feeling ok -did you say the surgery is day surgery? I'm sure you will be happy once that is done-Cathy -that sounds like it was quite the event -yes, and long -sorry about the kitty -and the weather -I have a glass friend who is in Bonny Doone (not sure exactly where that is in CA -she said somewhere near San Jose?) and they got slammed with wind & rain.
If you ladies haven't seen La La Land -go -
Shed is cleaned, fresh shavings in -water topped & lunch fed -they are happy campers!

CATHY-so glad it went well and we usually stay after for people to ask questions but I'm not sure about that "petting zoo" part. hope you asked if their hands were clean. Drives me nuts when someone just walks over and does a gliss. Once had a gentleman at a senior center who thought he was amusing and put his coat on the column. I told him my insurance company wouldn't be amused.
Glad the cat is ok. hope you get to swim

Hi all
tracked-mostly
Unexpected morning off. I still have Christmas to put away but I am going to a yoga class too. Heading to the office at 1:00.
Yes Faye it is very difficult to be a certified teacher with the oldest and largest dance commission in Ireland. insert difficult Gaelic name here LOL. ( there are other newer very small commissions that are easier). You can major in it at university in Ireland. The test happens once in the US next year and this time it is in Ohio so lucky for my daughter she can drive to it. The test takes 4 days probably because some parts the judges have to look at individuals so you are waiting your turn. Written, oral, dancing and teaching parts. You may only take the test twice in your life and you must pass all parts at one test. She has been student teaching and test prepping with her long time teacher. I am excited and nervous for her, this is a real passion for her and I think she would really like to be involved with Irish Dance as a career. Her teacher is very well respected and is also a certified judge and judged at Worlds this past year so DD has a good teacher. Her teacher also wants her to teach at her school so she really wants DD to be successful.
I didn't watch the Golden Globes but I usually only like the red carpet parts of those types of things so I can see the dresses. Sounds like there are some good movies out right now to see.
Too much housework to get to so I won't be getting to the barn before going to work. I am going to a yoga class.
Stay warm everyone!

Good morning. Temps are much better today. More normal at 47* this morning. We're warming up to rain. Supposed to be in the 70s the rest of the week. DH and I are going out to eat for lunch today using the Outback GC we didn't use the other night.
Amy-hope you enjoy the yoga class. When you said your DD takes the test next year did you mean 2018? I hope she passes it when she does take it.

Good morning-Tuesday AMY-Had a feeling it was an intense test. exciting though. Wishing her the best of luck even though not till Sept (I think that's what you said) glad she doesn't have to travel far to take it. enjoy yoga. I have yoga today too ! i love it I'm back to tracking. didn't lose this week but holding my own so i like to think of it as "stopping the holiday gain" which wasn't too bad considering. now to work on full time tracking BETH-a teeny warmer here, glad it's warmer by you. enjoy Outback BARB-i wanted to see that movie but once heard the painter was coming stayed in to take things off the wall hopefully I'll get to see that and LaLaLand. honestly, over 2 hrs and I think twice about seeing a movie. 90 is just about right for me. CATHY-bringing my harp to Liza to regulate this weekend. Still impressed you did it yourself! I would give it a try but it also has 2 buzzes when I plug in the amp so I think something is loose inside and need her to look at that. did you get to swim? how's the cat? last night's talk was interesting and fun. About rhythm and punctuating the rhythm with the harp. Seems she was the harpist when we saw Peter Pan in 1998, I went thru all my old playbills and there she was. Pity I never saved Playbills from when I was young. only started once DD was born. I saw Yul Brenner in King and I and Carol Channing in Hello Dolly and Richard Burton in Camelot so would have been nice to see who else I saw. I think Ben Vereen in Pippin and Gwen Verdon in Chicago but those I'm not sure. Painter starting now.waving to all. HAGD

Hi horse lovers, Cathy; glad your show went well, I would be upset if people were touching my harp! Did the teacher warn you about this? It seems so invasive. Is kitty still doing ok? Hope your rain has slowed down. Faye; wow, you have seen a lot of great plays! What color is the paint and carpet? Amy; you should be so proud of your daughter! Are you off today? glad you and your new horse are clicking! Barb; I haven't been to a movie in a really long time! DS doesn't like them, so I need to find someone to stay with him to go-I guess that's why I wait for things to come on dvd-lol Beth; glad your able to give your knee a rest! nice that the weather is cooperating for dh and his driving! Dutch; sounds like you found a place for ally really close to home Our drive from WA to Yuma AZ was interesting, scary at times! We left on the 1st and hadn't gone 1 1/2 hours when we were in the middle of a snowstorm (pulling a 26' trailer) and then a car backed into the camper at the gas station (no real damage to the trailer, his car looked bad). We hit snowstorm after snowstorm going thru Oregon passes. Finally bought some chains. The storms came a couple days earlier than forecasted, so we thought we were OK. So, that was stressful! We stayed in hotels instead of the camper due to the cold. It was awesome to see our friends in Yuma. He had a stroke a week before we got there, some cognitive issues, physically ok. He is having intense therapy to relearn simple tasks, we stayed there longer than planned to support them with this new and scary health issue. Have dh all set up in Mesa. This place is pretty amazing, a RV and model home resort. Has everything you could think of and activities galore! We are packed in like sardines lol, neighbors are all really nice. DS and I go home tomorrow- leaving dh here in the warm weather. Planning on coming back Feb. 1st. I'll post again when I get home. Miss my horses and kitty. I can look at them thru my security cameras Wave to all!

LIBBY-so glad you are ok.(and the trailer). hope your friend heals quickly and well. how scary. Hope the weather is clear skies for coming back. Good luck with the kitchen too . Is there a lot left to do? Loved the photos. just a neutral colors, I think a speckled beige (as opposed to something that looks flat like velvet)-more like a sandy look for the carpet. and the walls are an off white --was a Williamsburg collection Carter Parlor White but they don't make it anymore so whatever is close. they have more a brown pink undertone than gray. I'm pretty boring Have a safe trip home

Hi, all! Faye, my mom likes very neutral colors as well, which means when I moved into my own place, color went up on all walls Barb, a "gliss" or glissand (sp?) is when you drag a finger over all the strings quickly...you hear it a lot in harp music (and on TV . I've heard Hidden Figures is wonderful...will be like Libby probably, wait for it on DVD. Libby, wow...scary trip. Glad you guys got to AZ OK. Sounds like DH will have fun at his "summer home". Have a safe trip home. Amy, I think it amazing what your daughter is trying to accomplish! Sounds like she has lots of support, best of luck to her. Have fun at yoga! Beth, glad the weather is warming up for you. Have fun at Outback! I did swim yesterday. It's an odd feeling when half of you is warm from the pool and the other half is pelted with cold rain Swim fins from brother at Xmas make me faster! The big storm we had on Sunday created a huge landslide on the road I use to get "over the hill". Lots of folks didn't go into work yesterday because they couldn't get there. I think it was cleared last yesterday but with more rain forecasted, I think I'll stay off that road for a bit. Will probably have to use the gym for treadmills and weights because of the weather. Don't like swimming every day. Cathy

Hi again, Yoga was very nice. they no longer need me at work so now I have the rest of the day. If I had known that I would have gone to the barn! Good that I didn't go to the barn because I am way behind on home maintenance.
Cathy, I think the teacher over stepped telling people it is OK to touch your harp. She should bring her own harp for people to touch and try. I bet you are fast with fins, must be fun! I don't wear uncomfortable pants, just snug or fitted vs. scrubs, yoga pants, sweats etc. I know the fact that I wore scrubs every day made it much easier for the pounds to sneak on. When I am home I try to wear jeans.
Libby, I hope the trip back is a little smoother for you and DS.
Faye- neutrals can be so pretty and leaves lots of flexibility for playing with color with accessories. I have made some pretty big paint color mistakes over the years and then lived with them for a while before repainting. I saw EVITA in the early 80's on my first trip to NYC. Didn't keep the playbill though.
Barb- the shoes Lukas came in from Europe were kind of "clunky" and heavier. Since I have the indoor I don't put on "snow shoes". Hope the weather improves you footing soon.
Should really go clean now.....sigh.

HI all - Faye - that is so cool that you have seen so many famous actors. We used to go go Boston more often for shows- saw some people as well - Meryl Streep, Matthew Brodrick, Richard Dryfus to name a few. There is also a professional summer theater we go to -they usually have some "names"- and I have actually met & had coffee with Sally Struthers (!); Carson Krigley (sp?); and several others as well - they are usually "B" actors but somewhat famous at some point in time!
Did water aerobics again this morning -getting into the swing of things -2x a week on machines/weights -1x water class -my goal until it's morning riding time again!
Faye-carpet sounds pretty-Libby -yikes -quite the adventure -didn't realize DH was wintering in AZ - how often will you go back?
Mah Jong here tonite -tile game that Jewish women took from Chinese men!

Good morning Wednesday
BARB-so do you have bridge mix to eat when playing mahjong? AMY-glad you like yoga. I love it. did you get stuff done because you didn't have to go to work? CATHY-terrible about the roads. are there trees where it got so wet? need to be careful then about falling trees with weak roots. hope it dries out LIBBY-wishing you and DS a good, safe, and uneventful trip home in good weather DUTCH-how's Ally doing? anything new? BETH- hope the weather stays a bit warmer for you. cold now but supposed to go to 60 here. very odd
painter will finish today and guy coming to measure rooms for carpet
tracked sort of all week but lost .5 lb so I'm happy. Will need to be more consistent with it. curious to see how much I can lose if I really track all week. Waving to all. HAGD

Hi all,
Faye- yay for your WL! Keep it going! I am never perfect on tracking but I just keep tracking anyway and it helps so much more then not tracking.
Barb-Cool, coffee with Sally! As I get older I have lost some interest in who are the new stars. If I page through a People magazine at the office I realize I don't know who half of them are. I find this funny because when I was a teen I used to think "how can she not know who that is, doesn't she know anything about the world" when talking to older women about the latest new celebrity. Now I am that woman! LOL.
Our driveway and the roads are a sheet of ice right now. I was going to go to the gym for a 10:30 class. We will see if that happens, it is supposed to warm up above freezing later in the day.
DH and I went to DD1 and DD2's house on Sunday for dinner and the played the board game "ticket to ride". It was a lot of fun to be over there place for a pre planned real visit. Usually we are stopping by or picking them up.
Hey Dutch, what's up? I hope all is well.
Beth, are you catching up on some reading?
got to get my day going, I got a lot done yesterday but I have a lot more to do.

Good morning. Going to Bible study this morning. It's 63* here right now and supposed to rain later on.
Faye-great on the wt loss. Are you getting carpet for one room or the whole house?
Amy-icy roads are hazardous. Drive safely. Glad you had a good time with DDs.

CATHY-just saw there are flash floods in CA and people being evacuated. is that near you? are you ok?

Post by opusluv on Jan 11, 2017 11:51:35 GMT -5
Hi, all...there have been lots of flash flooding in the area, mostly for those near waterways. I am not; I'm actually up above the town on a hill, very stable with ivy and sycamores behind me Last night was VERY scary! The rain came down so hard, I thought it was going to come through the front window. Then I started thinking...if that window breaks, what are you going to do? You don't have any plywood big enough to close off the window. Gotta love the "what ifs". Maybe I need to get better prepared! Faye, glad the painting is almost done. I always wondered about where furniture goes when you lay new flooring...now I know Amy, glad you were able to get some things done yesterday. It's really helpful having lots of rain...it makes you stay inside and clean things you don't normally clean Barb, good on you getting to water aerobics...I'm assuming your pool is inside? I seem to remember the Y I used for a bit had an indoor pool for classes and an outdoor pool for the lap swimmers and kiddies. Beth, enjoy bible class. Sixty degree weather sounds lovely! Hi to Dutch and Libby! So just as I was about to leave for the gym yesterday, it just started pouring...thought about those folks who were swimming. It stayed heavy through the day and into the night, hence the flooding advisories. This morning it's clear and the sun is trying to come out. I thought it was supposed to rain today but the forecast is rain tonight. We'll see. On top of all the rain, one of the water mains that supports potable water for Santa Cruz broke and they are asking us to refrain from using water except for drinking and cooking. Ya gotta love it...we've probably had 10-15 inches of rain in the last week but now we're rationing???!?! Will try to walk the 'hood today. Cathy

CATHY-glad you are ok. We are on top of a big hill so same for us. but slippery with ice and snow. yes, ironic about the use of water. BETH-enjoy Bible study, is this the first one since the holidays? how long does it go for? painter done. Such a nice guy. never even know he's here. I was practicing and he said he doesn't need a radio, he's go entertainment moved everything back so tired and carpet measuring guy should be here soon so have to get the stuff out of those rooms. who went riding today? anyone see Madame Secretary last night. it was about a horse from Mongolia (and named mandy and she was beautiful) HAGD

HI guys - ok- Madam Secretary is on CBS -saw it was cute! Cathy - yes pool is indoors! Glad you are safe -it looks pretty scary! Faye - not bridge mix -usually just some pop corn or chex mix! Amy - like you I seem to know less & less of the "beautiful" people and some I don't care about -(if i see one more Kardashian story! LOL) the ice here melted (mostly) into mud - I did lunge Penny in the round pen today -but didn't get a chance to ride - it was in the 50's -also tomorrow -so may try after Upreach.
The story behind coffee with Sally - my friend who is a local actress also does plays at the professional theater in Maine (Ogunquit Playhouse if anyone is interested -very long history) and she did a few shows (Fiddler -Sally played GOlda -that was a stretch!) and so one of the times Sally was in town she stayed with my friend. So she called me one morning & said to come have coffee -just 3 ladies talking about life, kids etc - she was in her robe -it was very low key -& cool (no photos as it was low key!)
today was "spa" day - hair cut, waxing, nails, pedi- getting ready for Florida next week -Tues -Sat - since folks don't have wifi & I haven't figured out how to get this on my phone (?) may be MIA for a while!
Waving to all -enjoy the evening

I haven't figured out how to get this on my phone (?) You can install the Tapatalk app and get on or do what I do. I just google newgdt.proboards.com and then login. I then go to the bottom of the page once I'm logged on and hit desktop and your screen will look like your computer screen.
