Cathy; has anyone contacted you yet about the leak? Insurance? CA rainfall has made it on our news this morning! Faye; Your fall off Dorito was terrible. I'm glad your recovered from that. The emotional recovery can take longer, I still am nervous sometimes loading my very well behaved QH's in the trailer-where I hurt my hand/fingers years ago with a young horse! Dutch; glad your OK, horses can be unpredictable! be safe! Sorry your DH isn't as excited about equines as you are. Many people have the same issue with that, they can be quite expensive. I was at a barn a while ago and this older lady (older than me ha ha) that I just met was going on and on about how much money she spends on her horse who had allergies and other issues. I said to her, "wow, you must have a well paying job" and she said, heck no I'm retired, my husband has no idea how much I spend on this horse-he would have a fit! I'm just saying, you can spend a lot of money and time on them - balance is always good Beth; how is the embroidery business going? Barb; Penny is such a good girl! Amy; I had a really good lesson on Rosie yesterday! The whole lesson was walking and a little trotting. I'm giving a good 3 month go at getting her to settle at the walk, no jigging, esp. after trot and canter. She had worked up quite a sweat just walking, Heidi said it was all the thinking she was doing. I'm doing a lot with my seat, less with my hands. Giving the hands first then the seat slowly to get the walk speed I want. Took dgd with me to the barn yesterday, she rode Diesel at the walk on a lunge line. She has never ridden English or Dressage before so it was interesting, new learning for her. She had a great lesson. She was pretty shocked that I took lessons from Heidi! I think because I'm older, she thought I knew everything about horses lol HAGR everyone!

California is just getting hammered with rain! Oregon had record rainfall for Feb in like over 20yrs. Just a nuts winter!
Balance in life is key, isn't it?? lol Very true!
Well, I'm a moron! I totally goofed on Ally's age! She was born April 2015... that makes her 2!!! What a ding dong I can be. So now I really am right on track to train her ... AND an extra year of growing. Ha!
So Dam owner called me back. Good talk! Dam was 14.3 (darn!), good mind and solid feet. Cow horse, I have no complaints.
Stallion owner called last night too, but I missed it. As soon as I get a break during work, I'll return it.

HI all- as nice as it was yesterday -today complete 180- cold -VERY windy-the strips on the shed are flapping like crazy! We cleaned, I put a blanket on Penny & done for the day. Got my nails done-DH is making me crazy -the window people said they would be back to clean them but DH has decided to do them himself -so I try to stay out of the way!
Faye -nice that you have some St Patty's gigs! Dutch -hope you are still ok -as everyone said just watch for any strange symptoms.

Hi, all! Dutch, so glad you are OK. Those little "incidents" can really wreck havoc, as Faye knows. I think someone mentioned fixing up the food outside the stall. That's a good start. I've been bitten, stepped on, and squished against a wall, but never been run over. Hope all is OK. Interesting about her age Barb, glad you WERE getting some riding in. Sounds like today is a day to skip it! Hey, if DH likes to clean windows, I got some 2nd story ones I can't get to Beth, OK, I guess you can wait a couple of weeks. Side effects can be dicey, just keep an eye on them. Glad you both are feeling better! Faye, hope things are going well. Those St Paddy's day concerts are coming up Libby, no one has called yet. If I don't get a call today, I will call AAA again. And again...and again. You get the drift. Glad DH is having fun in his new abode. You'll get used to the daisys Hike yesterday was wonderful. After such a crappy rainy season, when we get nice "winter" weather, it IS nice. Got all caught up with my friend. And no major traffic issues either way. Today is stuff around the house then a hair appointment late afternoon. Probably will have to go short again as my hair still looks pretty dry/trashed. Cathy

LIBBY-thanks. took me a while to heal physically and emotionally. Now I watch "Once upon a Time" and lots of white stallions galloping and I think, "that looks fun!" I'm just so glad I rode on the beach. cute about DGD not thinking you take lessons. DUTCH- how many hands were you hoping for for size? glad you are on track. BETH-glad you are feeling better. AMY-what's doing with training. how are the geese? are they there in the winter? BARB-those St. patrick's glass items were amazing. CATHY-any news on the leak? did they look at the landscaping and see what needs to be done? Hope you are enjoying your staycation as well as getting things done.
did my show for my neighbors and they liked it. Decided to take out one tune and add another. We have a good time. I really got lucky with my neighbors. Also back to tracking. Oh, and Kabbalah class was great. Nice people too.

Hi All, I have seen people show horses "in hand" who wear helmets. Maybe they are worried about the other horses in the ring more then their own. I don't think it would be comfortable to wear a helmet all the time but I never ever ride without one.
My suggestion to lock Ally out of the shelter while you get the feed and hay ready is just so you have more control over the situation when you are opening containers etc. It is also good for her to learn to wait and then enter nicely. Since I have a feeling other people are not around to see you if you were knocked out cold a little caution might be a good thing. In the winter I am often at the barn alone so it usually crosses my mind that if something goes really wrong it could be a while before I am found. It doesn't stop me from going though, I am just a little more mindful.
Dutch-Hope your head is OK.

amy thanks. No, it is a a great suggestion. I'll have to brainstorm how to do that. The shelter is just in an open pasture. I'm NOT tying her to the shelter, that's not secure... Even if I lock her out of the shelter I'm still going from the pasture gate to the shelter, if that makes sense? I would think, no more feel, like I'd lose my perifial (spelling) vision with a helmet on the ground. I bet that's just an emotional response though. Ya, my goose egg is going down. I was hoping for a 15.2 hand horse.. lol not going to happen I think!

Good morning Friday DUTCH-hope you are feeling better. LIBBY-is Rosie still turned out with another horse? How's Lucy doing? any work in kitchen or just waiting for the cabinets? BARB-any new glass purchases? BETH-hope you are feeling ok and it wasn't the meds and just allergy or result of being sick and that all is well now. CATHY-any news about the leak? how's the harp going?
"show" for friends went well. we had a good time. Pilates later.

I went up a little at WI today. Not surprised. my great motivation has waned. I am trying to get it back. I need to be my own cheerleader a lot and come up with motivational themes. I am kind of "high maintenance" to myself HA!.
We have started the season of lent. I took "Fat Tuesday" a little too literally but that is done now. It is a time to "up your spiritual game".
So there is finally a "meet up" hike that I can go on and it is today. It is going to be a beginner hike of about 2 hours in duration. It is colder and they are calling for snow squalls but I will just dress for it, I should be fine. I don't own hiking boots but I don't think I need any at this point. I will probably wear my insulated paddock boots which are warm just not a big tread since they are for riding. Hope it is fun.
I am also going riding so this will be a action packed day. I don't know how Lukas will be since the weather has been so changeable but I didn't ride Wednesday and I miss him.
My husband is having a guy friend over this evening so I need to straighten up a little. Men notice very little so I don't have to go too crazy with the cleaning. HA!

Good morning.
Nothing special today. Just routine chores. I think the migrating birds are mostly migrated out of here. This is the third day I haven't filled up the bird feeder.

So, today is my official last day at my job. Yeah! Going to turn in laptop, badges, etc. Then will have lunch with new boss which is an old friend I've worked with her the whole time 15 years April 1st. She is retiring in the fall Seems that a lot of the nurses are finding new jobs before they get laid off. They are going to have to make big changes in the systems to make things still work there! My cabinets will be here the 22nd, and the crew will be here to complete the rest of the demo work, put in new French doors, 2 more skylights and take out 3 walls! I moved a big Thomas Kincade picture from one wall into my bedroom. It looks pretty nice in there. I won't has much wall space and I have a lot of pictures! I think I said I spent so much on the cabinets, I really don't have money for floors and countertops! UGH! This project may take longer to complete..... trying not to borrow any money I'll be in AZ when they are doing the work, so Yeahhh - it was really dusty in here when they did the first phase. I lunged Rosie yesterday evening, she's doing great! Little steps toward the 3 month intense training plan to get her to a calm walk Ride one day, lunge the next, she loves Maximus, Heidi's new horse, and Cowboy a mellow western pleasure paint that's boarded there. Her paddock outside should be done this weekend. I'm sure once she goes into season, she won't get along as well! Lucy is doing a lot better, still on the devils claw and vitamin B "non bute" supplement. HAGD everyone!! It's going to be busy and I'm still drinking coffee in my PJ's lol --I am starting carb counting again today!!!

Hi, all! Dutch, glad you're feeling better. I don't want to be an alarmist but if the headache persists, get it checked out. OK...done Faye, glad the practice show went well. Any songs I'd know? I'm assuming it's a Celtic-kind of show? Libby, hoo-ray on the last day!! I know some nurses who go into research; we have lots of RNs in data review/monitoring. Yeah, renos can be more expensive than thought. I think I went 5k over on my kitchen, which doesn't seem like a lot but sure felt like a lot Barb, hope you can get some useful info re: benefits for mom and dad. Amy, I hope you enjoy the hike! I think as long as your shoes are comfortable, you'll be OK. Traction might be an issue because most hiking boots have pretty good soles, but sounds like you're good...have fun!! Hope Lukas does well today. Beth, enjoy your quiet day. I saw somewhere that there is a bird count day...I think it was a couple of weeks ago but it sounded kind of fun. No news on anything. Still waiting on insurance (will call again today). My new laptop was supposed to be here Tues, then Thurs, and now? Who knows. The tracking # shows it all over the world Got haircut yesterday, short again. She thinks that I have new hair growing in so whatever I was doing was working. Didn't have the heart to tell her nothing new Will swim today. Cathy

Morning all - Cathy -I have always found a "budget" is just something that makes us feel better about what we spend -no matter what -the cabinets will look wonderful and the rest will come-and there is always the 'snowball" effect -which we are now starting to deal with -now that the windows are all replaced -we had to buy 4 sets of new blinds -the ones for the basement & garage were just Home Depot cut to measure-the kitchen and one bedroom were "custom" due to size -Lowes -3 weeks to come in! Now we are thinking flooring on main floor and DH still says he wants to put vinyl siding on the house in the next year. Short hair is so much easier -I often think/try to grow mine out -but after 1 or 2 trims I say -cut it off! Hope you get to swim & laptop finally arrives!
Amy -any riding this weekend? Did you clip Lukas at the beginning of the winter? Will you have to clip him now?
Libby -congrats on really retiring! When do you leave again for AZ? glad the horses are all settling in and getting along! Do you have Rosie on any "mare" supplement? I started Penny on her Mare Magic last week -she wasn't showing signs of heat yet -but trying to get a jump on it!
Faye- are the 2 shows near you? Can you play the same songs or do you have to have different programs?
Dutch -just to echo the others -keep a check on the headaches!
Weather here is strange -Wed it was almost 70-today may not get out of single digits! Once the weather gets nice like it did -I have no ambition to ride in the cold-I'll wait a few days -by Tuesday it is supposed to be almost 50 again!
Hope everyone has a great day - keep warm -ride if you can (Amy!) CLB

Hi All, Hope you all are well. Had a nice ride on Lukas yesterday the cold weather had him a little "bright" but not too much. I am also riding this situation much better. I am more calm about it and I know the warm up to get him a little more focused. He is a real "thinker" and very alert to what is going on around him. I guess/hope this is the last bout of winter weather.
I finally did a "meet up" hike yesterday. I joined back in December when Cathy suggested it. The leader was very nice, and a fellow hiker was a birder who was very good at spotting birds and identifying songs. I loved seeing the pair of bluebirds. It was cold but I dressed correctly and the sun was out. We walked about an hour and a half.
Barb- I know that snowball effect. My husband and I made a very inclusive list of all the things we would like to improve on our house after we moved in. In 20 years it is amazing how much we have done off of the list over the years. Every once and a while we pull out the list and look. The one I was amazed that we did about 4 years ago is the patio and it is one of my favorite places. I am glad we waited so we could do what we really wanted. I remember all the summer evenings we would be outside and talk about it but I never thought we would really do it. since you asked, Lukas was body clipped very early in the fall. I don't show in the winter so I never had it done again so he is fuzzy but probably not as much as he would have been.
Faye- If I lived close I would go to your St. Patrick Day shows. DD1 danced with an Irish Band last night. I didn't go though it is a younger adult thing and she was there with some friends. You don't always need your Mom showing up. LOL. Maybe she will meet a nice young man!
Beth- I am going to put up a bird house soon. I am also considering a little bird bath too. Now that the migrating birds are done are you waiting for your summer residents? Did you have a mockingbird last year?
Cathy- thanks for suggesting "meet up". Hope you are getting some results from insurance company. Are you going to change companies once this claim is done?
Dutch- hope the "egg" is reducing. How is the trip prep. going?
Libby- Sorry about the kitchen cost overrun. It is like those shows on HGTV they always seem to need more dollars. I have never done a complete re-do so it is pretty great for you even if the timeline is stretched out a little.
Going shopping with DH for some new blinds for the family room, hope we find something.
HAGD Amy

Have determined that Rosie does better in a softer bit, just purchased online a koorsteel eggbut loose ring snaffle from state line tack. Katy was riding Rosie in it because I forgot to leave her bridle and her and Heidi both noticed how much happier her mouth was. I rode her in it and agree. It's thicker and rounder than the jointed snaffle she has been using for many years! Love it when something works out like that! My mind was harsher bit, more control - it is just the opposite with her lol Last day was pretty uneventful. Lunch with new boss was interesting. All the nurses (who used to be a supportive group) are circling the wagons and shooting at each other! Getting nasty as they fend for their own jobs. I don't envy their boss, she is stressed as you can imagine - she has to lay 2 people off at the beginning of next month and they are not union, so it doesn't have to be by seniority. She will chose to use seniority if allowed. So glad I'm out!! Kind of got that what do I do next feeling? I think staying in my PJ's longer each morning and sipping coffee sounds great Cathy; have you been able to do hiking with all the rain/mudud

Computer freeze again! Glad last post went thru! Cathy: mud/slides? Amy; St. Paddies day must be fun at your house! I'm a little bit Irish Faye; I always think you need to come and walk trot Lucy. She is such a solid horse-come on over and visit the west coast!! PS she is pretty much over her lameness! Beth; I hear the birds really singing in the morning! May be I should put a bird feeder up now that I'm really retired I can commit to cleaning it up and filling it regularly! Barb; any luck with helping your parents? your weather is weird! Dutch; trust your feeling better and being safer when feeding! We care about you!! HAGD everyone!

Good afternoon. I filled up the feeders today. My "resident" birds that stay all year long are attacking the feeders. I have Cardinals, Chickadees (so cute), house finches, sparrows and a few other species (Mockingbirds and Bluebirds) that don't eat seeds but eat bugs and such that stay around. I love watching them.
This morning DH and I started cleaning out the little garden pond I have beside the house of the overgrown plants. It will be a several day job and neither one of us is in the greatest shape or as young as we used to be. We got the worst of the overgrowth out and I told DH we need to stop before we hurt ourselves. There's always another day to work more on it.

BARB-weather here is crazy too, flurried a few minutes ago. sounds like you are doing a lot with the house. fun, but messy, but nice when it's done. We got the blinds in the windows so it worked out. I do the same shows, and these are under 30 min from the house. I only will go about 45-50 min away. BETH-wish I had all those birds. sounds wonderful. LIBBY-thanks, but I'm done riding. wouldn't mind petting her though! not sure I have the patience to be on a cross country flight. AMY-sounds like a a good lesson and you and Lukas are really becoming a team. Hope DD enjoyed her dancing. I'm playing Morrison's jig at my show but I'm guessing she dances a lot faster than I could play it. CATHY-do you like the haircut? I'm going back to my old hairdresser in town so starting again with a new color and cut. I'm petrified (LOL) I loved the color of the new place but she couldn't reproduce the cut the last few times so I liked it but not enough to schlep into town and use a parking lot where I was on the 5th floor or higher. DUTCH-how are you feeling?
tree is cracked. got worse. tree company coming today to take it down and will take it away Monday. Waving to all. HAGD

Hi, all...typing on the new laptop, expect booboos! Dutch, OK, glad you are watching out for headaches! Beth, I used to have bird feeders but it was mostly to entertain the cat. When I started getting pigeons, then it's over. Bird baths help draw in birds as well (I think Amy asked about that). Hope the pond cleaning goes well. Barb, huh...weird weather indeed! It's supposed to rain here again, but that's not new Amy, glad you had a good lesson. So great that you made it to a meet up hike and had a good time. Different folks show up at the ones I go to, so you should get a different selection each hike Faye, with haircuts, I always struggle the first few days getting it to do something that I like. She wants me to go from highlights to just color so that I come in more frequently. I talked about $$ and the cat so can't do something as often as I like. We'll see how it goes. Bummer about losing the tree Libby, I had so many different bits over time; glad you found one that "nicer" and Rosie responds to it...that hardly ever happens I did hike on Wednesday and probably will tomorrow. I have Gortex shoes so mud doesn't bother me. So yeah, laptop came yesterday while I was gone so picked it up this morning. Ran a bunch of errands and got yelled at by a young hispanic woman who wasn't keeping track of her kids in the parking lot. Long story...bad mother. I did swim yesterday for an hour! Was fine while swimming but later in the day was VERY tired. Skipped meetings folks at the local watering hole. Did call AAA again yesteray and actually got the original adjuster. She said she never got my call 2 weeks ago. After a bunch of excuses, she said "didn't I give you the number for the inspector?" So then I send, "OK, I'll do your job and call him" and promptly hung up. Called him, left a message, he called while I was gone, called him again and that was it for yesterday. After this is over, I will be looking for quotes on new insurance. Tomorrow I'll hike. Cathy
