Great job posting credits everyone! If you missed Teddytiger's thoughts on how credits helped her realize she needn't be perfect to slose weight in the other thread, know that even the Becks approve. This email came from Debbie Beck-Busis, who co-wrote one of the later books - "That’s great to hear! It’s so important for dieters to realize that on track days don’t have to be perfect days. If they set impossibly high standards, they’ll never live up to them and will give up. I love the thought that giving credit costs nothing. That’s great!"
So please keep going with that and reading ARC's/other cards and eating seated/slowly/mindfully.
Today's task is another one that sometimes is resisted - getting a coach/diet buddy. This is someone you will check in with daily on how the progress is going and who will help you stay accountable. This board is great but not a substitute because it is too easy to fade away. Thinking it is fine to just be here, much like reading these posts and not the book, is a ST that needs to be countered. The private message system here should work well to find each other and exchange emails or phone numbers to text.
When you are someone's coach, don't be afraid to be relentless. If you are having a hard time, that is when you need a coach the most and it can be hard to reach out.
When you are being coached, be sure to set up expectations about what kind of contact works best.
I've seen it work for me and many in the past walk throughs of the book. So get to matching here or elsewhere in your life!

A friend and I, both of whom are on this thread, will be each other's coaches. We knew it was coming up so we made a plan earlier in the week.

I've been in a weight loss challenge for many weeks with people that I work with and I can say from experience that having a diet coach is game changer. This has made a big difference for me and when I do start getting off track, they are right there helping me to get back on.

My coach from a previous round of Beck was instrumental in keeping me on track. Not sure what happened to her. After several months life got in the way and we were too busy I guess.

I think I would be a good coach. I would love to have someone from here work with me (and me work with them) through private messaging or email. Texts are OK, too, but I am not always able to respond during the day. I'm a little afraid of fading out once the school year begins, so I like the idea of having someone to whom I'm accountable on a daily basis. mare, do you think it's helpful if the diet buddies are doing the same plan? I'm calorie counting on MFP, if there's anyone who would like to do that together.

I started to panic a little when I came to that part in the book. The friend I loosely did WW with, off old program CDs /without paying WW again, has so many personal/private problems, thus using food for comfort, thus actually gaining weight, that I realized some time ago that it was too easy for me to sabotage myself : if I lose, she will be even unhappier with herself, so let's just eat those chips cookies whatever. Yes, my thinking can be phenomenally messed up. But, I realized it at some point and when I desperately thought about whom else I could ask (I am a social hermit...), I remembered my former best fried in New York. She has lost a lot of weight with WW, and this way, we will be "forced" to be in closer contact again - bonus!! She read a summary which I sent her a link for and she was very intrigued by it. We haven't figured out how to communicate yet, I sent her pictures of my tentative diary /food journal via WhatsApp and she couldn't read /open them. Will need to sort that out.
That said, if somebody doesn't want to /can't ask anyone in their real life, I would be happy to pair off with them, and we could keep each other accountable. The only thing is : I am in Germany, so this would probably be most useful for someone in Europe. We do have international calling included on our landline phone flat rate (ie not to cell phones, unfortunately) to many European countries and the US.

I am hoping to remain with my coach from previous Beck rounds. She and I have remained in contact for many months and I think it's worked well for us.
Credits from yesterday Walked 24,000 steps (but paid for it later) Tried to drink enough water (pretty sure I didn't, but credit for trying) Did not have an alcoholic drink with dinner Read my ARC

Hmm. I'm going to have to think about this. I currently attend WW with my BFF, but she is far from committed and I would worry that she couldn't commit to what I would ask of her. I was in email contact with a gal from the WW boards and we coached each other by emailing daily. But then she just got so busy and it fell off.

I have great coaching support from previous Beck rounds and I will say it is important and helpful (and I REALLY didn't want to do it at first.) I've learned a lot from coaching, gotten new ideas about how to eat, realized I was not the only person who struggled with different things and just made better choices when I knew I was going to be chatting with a coach the next morning. It's like most of the steps in this book-the more you hate the idea, the more helpful it will probably be!

I resisted getting a coach at first, but thankfully I now have two fabulous coaches from this board. If anyone is also resisting, I can assure you it's well worth it!

I asked my WW buddy last night to be my coach. She is perfect because she's honest, she never lets me get away with flimsy excuses, she's just perfect for me. She asks what it pays and I told her I'd pay her in pineapples from my backyard lol.

I would like to keep my coaches from the last several rounds (if they will have me). I too was not eager to "meet" someone on-line and develop a relationship. I don't do social media (except here and the tent) and tend to hang in a small group of family and friends (co-workers). That said, my 2 coaches have been great! They are someone I could be friends with IRL. I also have 2 sisters, a step-daughter and several co-workers who Beck. It makes it easy to "speak the Beck language" and we are held a bit more accountable "Is standing the new sitting?"

Good morning!
Yep, this is a task I totally resisted in the past, but found it to be so helpful when I finally got on board. I have 2 coaches from previous Beck rounds and they both inspire me, cheer me on, and keep me motivated. It's really more important than I had realized while I was resisting it!

Thanks! I have coaches now - 8/14, so ignore the following:
I have Becked three times coachless, using the board for support. I am available for anyone looking for a coach. I don't have a lot of weight to lose; I am doing another Beck round to brush up on CBT tools. Also, I really want to eat more healthily to manage IBD and a few other issues.
I'm on the west coast, not working outside the home.
Credits yesterday:
Read ARC twice Read Coach chapter Worked out Stopped eating at breakfast, though I really wanted to continue Created Response card for "It's too hard" Ate sitting down, mindfully, sometimes slowly

I too am going to hook up with my coach from previous rounds.
I resisted this a LOT. Especially when I first read the pink book in 2007. It was only after we started this on the GDT that I finally broke down and got a coach and it has worked well for me. It is important to have a coach who will not fade away and who will check in with you when you have faded away for a bit.

I do attend weight watcher meetings but that is only weekly accountability. I was thinking who could help me daily since I'm the only one doing this. I thought about it and looked across the table during breakfast ( which I was eating slowly, mindfully and seated) and then it hit me - ask your husband! So after much discussion, he agreed and I think this is going to great for the two of us. Again, thank you for this Beck experience - it's really opening up my eyes to so much more.

My 2 great coaches have already checked in on this thread and we have agreed by email this morning to continue our coaching triad. It has been great for us, we keep in touch regularly and we get each other. I would not have had as much success with Beck without them

I've joined up with a friend that's doing this thread and we'll be each other's coaches. We've both posted daily on another WW thread for several years and I know she'll be a good, reliable coach. We mainly contact each other through the boards, but also have email contact.

My skinny BFF has been my coach. All I really do is report my weight but she's super supportive. I am pretty sure I'd like to email with a coach from here - teach2learn want to give it a good old college try?

teach2learn, I think that if you click w/ the coach that trumps plan. But having both would be helpful.

I need a coach. If anyone wants to connect, let me know.
I'm not much of a sugar-coater and curse like a sailor. If that's your speed, send me a PM.
Oh, and my diet plan will be SBD - so that jives well with any lower carb plan. But honestly, it doesn't matter much to me if my partner is eating the same way.

I am calorie counting trying to emphasize clean eating. Do you want to email or just use the boards? I'm on the west coast, if that matters, timewise.

Oh boy, have I resisted this one in the past. But when I was in a coaching triad, it was super helpful.
So I'm looking for a coach. East Coast, crazy job but lots of time evenings to catch up. I'll need to be slapped around periodically, and happy to return the favor.
PM me if you are looking!!

I'm going to hit my sister up to be my coach. She has recently lost 35 lbs doing SP. I mentioned the Beck book and she's intrigued but doubted she could fit it in her schedule with going to WW meetings and her couch25k. We're both on MFP so she can view my tracking.

Happy Friday!
I had a coach that I met through the Tent website when I Becked over there. We kept in contact with emails and it worked very well. I am a good coach, I know how to be supportive and to give my opinion when needed. She was great for me too. Unfortunately. when that round of Beck ended, we lost contact.
I'll be tracking my food on Lose It. I lost most of what I needed about a year ago and have about 10 more pounds to go. Those last 10 are a bitch to lose.
If there are any other west coast members who would like to journey with me, please let me know. I do work but check my private email several times a day. I am almost always available in the evenings.
