Barb-Libby hasn't come over yet.
75* at 6am. I'm sweating and stinky.
QOTD-did you read horse books when you were younger and who was/were your favorite authors?
What horse books did I not read? I loved The Black Stallion series by Walter Farley and read them over and over. Another author I loved to read was Margaret Henry. She had the Misty series but also had many other books. Then there was the My Friend Flicka series by Mary O'Hara.

OK, I guess this is where I post I loved Trixie Blendon (had a horse)? It was a mystery series. Right now my dgd is watching Heartland and has learned so much from it. Her/DH's lol horse was lame and she told me she learned how to do a lameness check from watching the show. I had her do it and it was exactly right!! Well this is my test run - let's see where this goes!

Good morning!
Yeesh, another scorching day, with no rain in sight :/ I just dropped my kids off to riding camp - they'll be there all this week. Fun! It's just too bad it's going to be so crazy hot this week...
Squiggle, good job getting in your walk! I have to come up with a plan to get my steps in; maybe I'll go to the mall to walk in a/c.
Barb, I hope you got your ride in before getting too uncomfortable out.
QOTD: my absolute favorite book growing up was Black Beauty. Man, I must have read that book a dozen times. Although it always made me so sad for BB and all the terrible owners he went through!
Its funny, but I wonder now if I did myself a disservice reading books like that which anthropomorphize horses. I think I find myself not being exactly the alpha in the equation when working with them, as a result. Anyone else do this? I'm trying to get better about it, but it seems to be a slow process...

Hi - so we did get a quick ride in -the bugs were tolerable -my fav horse book - Black Beauty -yes, read it many times -cried most of them! My Penny has a "black beauty" type of story - she is a double reg pinto/paint -with no color! but apparently her breeding is very good -I have her papers & was able to talk with the breeder who had her for the first 7 years of her life (she is now 20) so she was shown (halter points!) but around 15 mos they noticed some leg issues & she had check ligament & contracted heels surgery -which back then was 7-8K! She then had 6 mos stall rests, 6 months hand walking then they broke her to drive - then to ride -she was bred several times -kept throwing solid foals -so eventually was sold to their hay man -also a paint person -who apparently bred her once -also solid foal. She was sold to a person as a riding horse -not sure how long he had her but she wound up at New Hope (I think that is the name) auction/kill lot. She was bought by a woman in NH who runs a lesson/sales barn to put some training & sell -her next door neighbor bought her as a 2nd "wife/kids horse" as he had his riding horse - but with 5 kids under 10 - not much riding was done! I then bought her 3 years ago -and the rest is history! She now has her "forever" home!
Waving to all - welcome Libby -HAGD

I think the time to ride this time of year is early in the morning. It is just too miserable after work to ride. This won't last forever and Rueben can catch up on his fitness when the weather is better. We are in a "heat advisory" until 8:00pm. I brought my saddle home to give it a good cleaning/conditioning.

QOTD- loved the Black Stallion series and a book called "Summer Pony" and I imagined I was the girl who got the pony. I also got some sort of horse magazine with a pull out poster every month that went up on my wall.

HAGD Amy I agree. When I used to train my horses I would get up early and ride then. Less buggy too.
