What’s on your mind — how to make kugel? This week’s Torah reading? Life goals? Prayer? We are all engaged in weight loss/weight maintenance journeys and we are all Jewish or at least interested in Judaism. We like to eat, we like to discuss. It is our goal here to provide each other support on our journeys, to share experiences, to call on our rich cultural heritage and texts, and to help each other grow spiritually.
Some of us take weekly turns starting the thread:

And for those of you that stop by to read this thread without posting - you are welcome to do that but you are also welcome to chime in!

Hello Everyone,
First off HAPPY BELATED BDAY TO LOUISE! I hope your birthday was a nice one. I especially hope you enjoyed Murrays Felafel place, which sounds perfectly yummy to me.
Second, thanks to you guys for expressing support re: my mother. The doc said she had some suspicious areas, and she will undergo a PET scan next week. My mother is amazingly sanguine about end of life issues. She is 86, and while she has a full life, she is very lonely without my dad. I managed to get through the day without gritting my teeth the whole time. Beryl, I loved your comment yesterday!
Thanks for playing along with the counter - resolution idea this week. If you can think of one, what would your own counter-resolution be? Here is mine:
WEAR WHAT I WANT TO WEAR. For years, I have worn a lot of black. As a lawyer, I was expected to dress in fairly muted colors. But frankly, I mostly chose black because I thought I looked thinner in black. I'm pretty sure I didn't fool anyone. Anyway, at Rosh Hashanah this year, I wore a top which was a beautiful, deep, but vibrant green. I got lots of compliments on it. But most importantly, I felt more alive. This year, I am resolving to try to wear more color, even if that little voice inside of me is saying : " Buy the black ..."
Good shabbos, all!

Special message to Frieda:
I am widely known to be a somewhat careless and inattentive driver. I have somehow not had too many bad accidents, but many, many minor "bumps." My family thinks that I view driving as a contact sport. Despite my adequate eyesight, I am compared often to Mr. McGoo of cartoon fame. Our local body shop owner once sent me a thank you note for being such a steady customer. When I drive friends, they joke that they need to take a Xanax before and after. Oh well, no one's perfect...

Boker Tov! I am spending more time with the baby. I have only him when big sister is in school, MW and Friday DH is home and I may or may not work. I love being with the kids. On the other hand, I would also like to sub more, next year... Kids are great and healthy. Today I am working my first full day, since he was born. Excited. Nervous. The class had subs all week, but I know the kids. (Their teacher is pregnant and during break had to be put on bed rest, baby due in April. School is looking for a temporary contract teacher) Better get moving, as I need to be ready before waking up DD at 6, so I could drop her off at daycare and DH is taking DS to his doctor appointment. Busy day. Shabbat shalom Tamara

Good morning everybody. Hope you are all well today. I'm feeling good, although I am somewhat apprehensive about tomorrow. DS is scheduled to work tomorrow morning, and the area is supposed to have snow and possibly rain/ice. I am not looking forward to driving in that, although I am a very careful driver. I will be extra-specially careful tomorrow!!!
This afternoon, DS and I are planning to go see the movie, "La La Land." I've heard it is very good, with lots of singing and dancing.
As for today's topic of picking a counter-resolution, I'll have to think about that. Right now, nothing is coming to mind.
I'll be back later. Have a peaceful day, Lee

So yes, I had a lovely day yesterday, thank you. Dinner at Murray's was pretty perfect - I had lamb shish kebab on pita bread and a chick peas& rice side dish. I don't get to eat that stuff very often. The concert was medieval Jewish music with medieval instruments including a portable harp and a portable (tabletop) harpsichord.
Will give some thought to today's topic and hope to BBL

Boker Tov All!
Louise - Happy Belated Birthday - Party On! As mentioned before: we are older than we have ever been, and younger than we will ever be! I'm glad you ate the cupcake, dinner sounds wonderful & the concert sounds like it would have been right up my alley!
I went to work yesterday - and there was something wrong with the electrical system - 1/2 the lights were out & no heat! (I left just as the electrician was coming in!) So - I'm going to work for a few hours today, if the heat is on. (in 20-something degrees, no heat is not a good day at work!)
I am heartily sick of this cold weather - and next week our temps are supposed to swing suddenly into the high 40s-low 50s. The last time this happened ('96) we ended up with floods because the storm drains/rivers couldn't handle the volume of melting snow! We can only hope for the best.
Lynne - I have enjoyed this week - it has been great thinking of different "counter-resolutions" in my life. Once we set our heads in that direction, no doubt other things will come to mind! Habits of a lifetime - they are hard to break. And yet, the swerve onto a road less traveled opens up new vistas every single time!
Shabbat Shalom!

Good morning all! Happy birthday a day late, Louise, and nice to see you, Tamara! It's still raining here but not as heavily, and it's a little warmer.
Counter-resolutions -- what a great way to look at things. This has been an interesting week. If I don't get back here today, everyone have a wonderful week, and I'll be back tomorrow night. Shabbat shalom!

Whoa - we were just about to okay a book for printing when 2 big mistakes surfaced - scary that the editors here or at the NY Botanical Garden didn't notice earlier in the week but I would rather go with the glass half full and be r-r-really grateful we can still make the corrections! Could you imagine in a book on trees done in collaboration with the NYBG we misidentify a tree?!

Yes, Lynne, very interesting week. I'm always in awe of the topics people identify for us to deal with. Thank you, Lynne!
[Did I remember to post that we got the hot water turned back on the other day? I've been taking regular showers, and I'm sure the people who've found themselves physically close to me are as glad as I am. Also that all of the flooring on the first floor will be removed (half of the living room floor is already gone), so I'll be able to choose new flooring. Am particularly looking forward to perusing linoleum for the kitchen/laundry room/ downstairs bathroom, and if any of you have advice, I'm listening...]
