What’s on your mind — how to make kugel? This week’s Torah reading? Life goals? Prayer? We are all engaged in weight loss/weight maintenance journeys and we are all Jewish or at least interested in Judaism. We like to eat, we like to discuss. It is our goal here to provide each other support on our journeys, to share experiences, to call on our rich cultural heritage and texts, and to help each other grow spiritually
Some of us take weekly turns starting the thread:
Angelika Holly Lee Louise Lynne Peachy
And for those of you that stop by to read this thread without posting - you are welcome to do that but you are also welcome to chime in!

Boker Tov All! Yesterday (today, as I'm writing at night) I heard about the EPA gag order on the Rachel Maddow show - immediately my BP went up, I knew I had to "DO SOMETHING" - and then, my better nature set in. We can't do it all today - or even tomorrow.
Louise had mentioned that she needs to do things for her health - and I realized that we probably all should do that. I cannot stop anything that is happening at this moment, my dear Senator Ron Wyden hears from me (and I from him) on a regular basis, as does Jeff Merkley & Kurt Schrader. Next time any of them hold a "Town Hall-type" meeting here in OR, it behooves me to be there. More will get done if we all show up!
Meanwhile, in other news: today I went back to the gym. Last thing John said to me as I went out the door, "don't overdo on the 1st day back!" - I heeded his warning & worked out for 30 min. Lighter weights than before. It felt good to be doing it - and several of the regulars came to welcome me like a long-lost friend!
Natalie has surgery tomorrow (Wednesday) so I probably won't be here much. I'll read before I leave. I made muffins to take to the hospital (for the waiting room) I'll go up right after swimming.
Have a good day ladies!

Good morning everybody. Hope you are all well. The sun is shining again today, and I feel good about that. Re "We can't do it all today --- or even tomorrow": I would like to say that maybe we can't do it ALL, but we can do SOMETHING. I hope everyone stays motivated to help change the world for the better, even if it is only in a small way.
Good luck to Natalie; hope all goes well!
I'll be back later. Have a peaceful day, Lee

Spent our first night at a local Holiday Inn. Woke up REALLY cold. Set the heat for 76, took my shower, and the current temperature is tolerable. Outside, it's about 40 and won't hit 60 (forecast, per weather.com, is 59 at 2:00 and that's the highest; ladies, THIS IS SAN DIEGO! IT'S NOT SUPPOSED TO GET COLD HERE!)
I posted late yesterday; if you have time, check it out.
Best of luck for Natalie's surgery today!

Good luck to Natalie!
Yes, every day I turn on the news, it is a new adventure in keeping my blood pressure in check. Yesterday was EPA. Today, he is calling for s msjpr investigation into voter fraud. Even tho he won the election and even tho there is zero evidence. No we cannot do it all, but we can all do something.
ANNOUNCEMENT: DH and I are traveling to India! We are going with friends, and we leave Sunday. I should be home on 2/17. I will try to post while I am overseas, although that might be sporadic. All of the hotels should have wifi. My turn to lead begins on 2/18, so, God willing, I will be home and can take my regular turn.
Angelika, let us know how Natalie does....

Angelika, hoping that Natalie bounces back after surgery. Does this surgery require rehab services afterwards?
Lynne, when DH and I went to the polls in November, we walked in, pulled out our I.D.s and were told we don't have to show an I.D. to vote; we just had to give our name. We looked at each other in disbelief. At the very least, there should be a requirement to identify yourself. That's just common sense. Add to that the fact that in California, illegal aliens are allowed get a driver's license or a state I.D.. Once you have proper I.D., it's just a hop, skip and a jump onto the voter registration list.

Beryl, I read your last post yesterday. Angelika's advice not to let your blood pressure go up and to take action in a paced and calm manner is good advice. For myself, I have found that it's hard to think when you're so worked up. Emotion takes over reason. I wish Trump would put a gag order on his own Twitter account!!
The Conservative news is explaining the gag order as a temporary order until the new department heads are installed and running the departments. Maybe. That is one spin. The other spin is, of course, as you pointed out that he wants to control the news coming out of the government. And to ratchet up, he wants to control all news. And to ratchet up, he wants to abolish the free press in the U.S. and the world. And to ratchet up, his true goal is to become dictator of the United States. But remember, these are just interpretations of an order to quit unsupervised agency tweeting. Like, I said, he should take his own directive about tweeting.
Yes, Beryl, we have to be vigilant. Trump is a very different political figure, very different personality type than we have dealt with before, and yes, he could be dangerous, however admirable his goals are (Buy American, Hire American). As someone who has zero government experience, he's clearly jumped into the deep end of the pool. But we have to stay calm and cool and not inflate or inflame either. Once we get into foreign affairs, and the U.S. faces international threats and challenges, this flap over the EPA's twitter account will seem like peanuts, I promise.
My own interpretation is that this was Trump's revenge for the National Parks Service tweeting out the photos of Obama's inaugural crowd versus his smaller inaugural crowd. He likes to punch back and can't let go of the small stuff. It's petty and narcissistic, I agree, but it seems that all men who have a touch of greatness have great flaws as well.
I think the best thing we can do is stay calm, stay cool, and take actions that you feel will help steer the boat in the right direction. Like Angelika, I'll be in close touch with my congressional leaders. My DH and I, in the past, have gone to Sacramento to the state capitol, to Washington, DC to meet with our congressmen and senators (we only met their staff, though), to local offices where we were able to meet with our district congressmen and women. We have carried signs, attended rallies in Washington, have attended seminars to learn lobbying skills, have written to the editor of our city newspaper, sent out press releases, joined local and national organizations, sat on boards, and organized events to draw public attention for the issue we were supporting, which was funding for cancer research. We can do it again.

Dr. Wehby just came out. She said "everything went swimmingly". Natalie is completely untethered. Just waiting for the nurse to call us back to see her. Baruch HaShem!

I have been doing my workouts and trying to build up to the amount of weight I was using before the various injuries. I still have a ways to go but I see progress. I'm also grateful that I hurt less today. Because I feel so stuck I am thinking of signing up for 30 days of that kosher delivery I tried before. I did well on it but it is very expensive. 30 days of it might just push me back into the groove. Just thinking about it - in the meantime I wrote them and asked if my old price still holds.
