What’s on your mind — how to make kugel? This week’s Torah reading? Life goals? Prayer? We are all engaged in weight loss/weight maintenance journeys and we are all Jewish or at least interested in Judaism. We like to eat, we like to discuss. It is our goal here to provide each other support on our journeys, to share experiences, to call on our rich cultural heritage and texts, and to help each other grow spiritually
Some of us take weekly turns starting the thread:

And for those of you that stop by to read this thread without posting - you are welcome to do that but you are also welcome to chime in!

Boker Tov All! We have made it through the 1st week of Trump's presidency, our BPs have all gone all over the board because of it, I think we are learning to focus for our own peace of mind - and Natalie "might" be able to go home on Friday! (she has not been able to sit up yet - she needs to tolerate that before she can go home.)
Louise - I think you are right - you can use the "leftover" days of your delivery plan to get you back on track! If nothing else, the portion sizes will help with your mindset.
I find winters are hard. The fruits and vegetables are available, but expensive. The tendency (mine, at least) is to eat more hearty root vegetables instead of watery summer veg. And while root vegetables certainly are not bad for us, in my mind, at least, there must be some brakes applied to the starchy veg meals! I park as close to the door as I can, to get out of the cold/wet quickly. I've even been tempted (but so far resisted) the new "shop online" thing that many stores are now doing - you shop online, they have everything ready at the drive-in at the store, you swipe your card, they load your car - all without getting out of the drivers seat! Much as I like the idea, some days I consider 30 minutes of shopping to be my workout!
I'm finding more and more - I NEED that hour in the AM when I work out. It helps with my pain level all day long, it also helps me to sleep better at night. And, once I've been to the gym or the pool - I'm finished! At this point, I'm really looking forward to spring, when I will park 1/2 mile from the gym again. (I have to start talking myself into that now!)
I had my physical - everything is looking good, and, even though I have gained weight over the winter, it was not as much as I was afraid of!
I wish you all a good weekend.
Shabbat Shalom!

I don't have the nerve to get on the scale - glad your weight wasn't as much as you thought Angelika. Will be sending out good vibes for Natalie.
My brother, who is very athletic and also broke many, many bones in a bike accident with a car, works very hard to stay athletic, despite pain. He tells the story of going to a chiropractor and filling out a form there. It asked when do you have the most pain? Ans: When I exercise. When do you have the least pain? Ans: When I exercise. My workouts have been more frequent and I feel so much better. I know that I feel better because I exercise and I also know that pain can keep me from doing it. In the abstract it is a dilemma, but in actuality, it's not - Ya got do it.

Good morning everybody. Hope you are all well. Today has been quite a day already; hopefully it will be calmer later. I got up early with DS and drove him to work. There were so few cars in the parking lot that I asked him to go into the building to make sure it was open. He went in and asked someone, then came out and told me that he did have work, so I went home. Right after I got home, he called: Surprise! The store was doing inventory, so he wasn't supposed to work today. His supervisor had made a mistake when giving him his schedule, AND the person he spoke with earlier was wrong. So I went back out, picked him up and drove home, fortunately with no problems. Once home, I saw that H wasn't up yet. I thought that he had possibly slept through his alarm, so I sent DS in to wake H up. DS came back and said that H told him that he was sick with pneumonia (!!!). I went over to H's room and asked if there was anything I could do for him. H was not happy at being disturbed again. A little while later, H got up, took his medicine, had breakfast, and said that he was going to go to work for awhile (!!!). He was in a very bad mood, so I didn't say anything.
I sincerely hope that the rest of the day gets better!!! Have a peaceful day, Lee

I bumped into my brother yesterday at Costco, but once again, he didn't want to talk to me. We live in the same city, about 15 minutes apart. but he broke off contact with me 3 years ago after my mother passed away. I have no idea why and he doesn't want to tell me. This 2nd chance encounter at a store is all I have seen of him in 3 years. In August, I emailed to congratulate him on the birth of his new grandsons. He didn't acknowledge or respond. In January, I sent him an email congratulations him on his 70th birthday. He didn't acknowledge or respond. In our brief encounter yesterday, I managed to ask if he had received those emails and I got a one word "Yes", but that's all before he rushed off.
I feel sad about it and guilty because my deceased mother and deceased father would have been so disappointed in me. You know, every parent hopes that their children will remain close and that the family they created will retain its bonds.
Well, I guess it is what it is.
