What’s on your mind — how to make kugel? This week’s Torah reading? Life goals? Prayer? We are all engaged in weight loss/weight maintenance journeys and we are all Jewish or at least interested in Judaism. We like to eat, we like to discuss. It is our goal here to provide each other support on our journeys, to share experiences, to call on our rich cultural heritage and texts, and to help each other grow spiritually.
Some of us take weekly turns starting the thread:

Yesterday afternoon, Frieda posted a great question. I thought I'd put India on hold for a day to discuss Frieda's question, which was "what's good thing to eat late at night when you are trying to stay on plan? "
My go-to is a cup of low or no sugar added hot chocolate. It takes a while to drink because it's hot, and seems to be filling. I also do apples. The other thing I do is put on an absorbing movie and cocoon inside a blanket. I know the best thing would be for me to go to bed early, like 10, but that does not seem to be in my DNA.
Other ideas for dealing with late night munchies?
Coming for Friday: Hinduism and Buddhism are incredibly peaceful and open minded religions. But what is one thing they have in common with Nazism? Tune in Friday for the answer....

Good morning everybody. Hope you are all well. Re today's question: I usually eat dinner around 5 or 6PM, and also usually wake up in the middle of the night. When I wake up, I like to have something to eat, as it is generally a long time since dinner. I often will have a bowl of cereal with a banana cut up into it. Occasionally, I will have a sandwich. Sometimes I just have a glass of milk. It all depends on how hungry I feel.
Have a peaceful day, Lee

My favorite go to for a snack these days is clementines. They're small, sweet, and easy. I take a couple to the office with me too for a snack. Other go to's in the past have been sugar snap peas and 10 calorie jello cups (low cal even with a squirt of FF RediWip).
Looking forward to the cliffhanger tomorrow!

I'm a big snacker. I love to eat all the time. I make the old WW vegetable soup and always have some on hand, and I put those ghastly yam pasta noodles in it. They only work in soup since their texture is so yucky. Popcorn, non fat frozen yogurt with fruit, greek yogurt and fruit, salad left over from dinner, apple and string cheese, veggies and salsa. Hi to all!

Boker Tov All! Popcorn is a big favorite at our house! I mix up 1 tsp of chili powder, some paprika & cumin & we sprinkle that on it. Also, sometimes, Brewers yeast flakes - tastes like cheese. These take the plain popcorn from "meh" to really good!
I don't think I've mentioned this, but we have a (fairly) new H2Oaerobics instructor. She seemed a little up-tight, but I attributed that to her being new. Then people started dropping out - but new ones came, so the class size seemed to remain the same.
Last week she got out of the pool, pulled up a deck chair & sat on the edge, looking down at us. She told us a story about her daughter, when she was 5, how she had to tell her not to talk at swim lessons, "because these lessons might save your life!" Then she told us that she expects us to be prompt - on time - "you need the entire warm-up!" and to stay for the whole class "the cool-down is so important!" (My friend Debbie had left early the day before - she had an appointment) So....
Yesterday, I was late. Debbie was at the deep end of the pool - I headed toward her. We chatted as we worked out - doing all the exercises with the class. We didn't talk loudly or disruptively, but we did talk. About 20 minutes in, she informed us that we could stop talking and join the rest of the class, or leave. So, of course, we left. (what are we, 5?) Apparently we are not the 1st or only ones who stopped at the office to complain about this. Thank goodness there are other classes - I'll probably be going back to the evening class today!
Meanwhile - heavenly sunshine right now! (It "may hail or snow, depending on where you are" later today) I'm heading outside to soak up some sun - I'll be bundled up with nothing but my little eyes showing!
Have a good day, ladies!

Snack: I may or may not have told you that I'm borderline hypoglycemic. I don't go long without eating something or my blood sugar drops dangerously low. So I rarely go to bed without having a snack (unless dinner was really very late). I air pop popcorn more often than any other single snack. I spray it with some olive oil spray, or else I eat it totally dry. (I get a bad reaction to sodium, so I never salt my foods.) Sometimes I'll toast a piece of light 100% whole wheat bread and spread a little nonfat plain Greek yogurt on top (that's only very recently) or something equally nondescript. I prefer something whole grain-y (like popcorn or 100% whole wheat bread) as it seems to hold me until morning.
As for the water aerobics instructor: wow! Who does she think she is? I can just see myself talking back to her about how her mother maybe forgot to teach her how to respect her elders or that she has a lot of nerve talking to senior-age women as if they're (we're) children, things along those lines. You are so lucky not to have me in your water class, Angelika!
The furniture arrived this morning. There are now boxes all over the living room, dining room, and kitchen (and some on top of the washer and dryer too). I'm taking a break from opening, unpacking, putting things away... The piano moving company is supposed to bring my harpsichord between 3 and 4 (it's now about 2:30, and I'm tutoring one of my bar mitzvah students at 3:00, at least it'll be on the phone, so I can let the movers in and watch them set up my harpsichord. (Did I ever tell you my favorite period in music is the baroque? I have an Italian-style harpsichord on which I play almost exclusively J S Bach...)
I've decided to get rid of most, if not all, of my cookbooks, so I kept a lot of empty boxes to unpack them into (I assumed at least some of them got packed by the packers into the same boxes as some of my Judaic books). I had already run out of space for all my books before the water damage... Now seems as good a time as any to pack books I stopped using years ago. (Hey, Frieda, you don't live all that far away; do you need/want any cookbooks? Or your DS4 maybe? Let me know.)

Angelika, I'm speechless!
Holly, I just had a vision of kitty-cat bliss -- my cat would have an absolutely marvelous time, playing in those boxes!
About late night snacking, I am too darn lazy to brush my teeth an extra time, so I don't eat anything else once I've brushed them. It's water or nothing!
