What’s on your mind — how to make kugel? This week’s Torah reading? Life goals? Prayer? We are all engaged in weight loss/weight maintenance journeys and we are all Jewish or at least interested in Judaism. We like to eat, we like to discuss. It is our goal here to provide each other support on our journeys, to share experiences, to call on our rich cultural heritage and texts, and to help each other grow spiritually.
Some of us take weekly turns starting the thread:

And for those of you that stop by to read this thread without posting - you are welcome to do that but you are also welcome to chime in!

Boker Tov All! Frieda - Congratulations on the 4 pounds! Louise - that's a lot of Mishloach Manot! (and I would LOVE to see a picture of you as Lady Liberty!
Mom has had many appointments this week - we have spent more time together than usual & I'm worn out! (Ok, I'm not worn out because I've spent a lot of time with her - she lives an hour's drive, 1 way, from me) And she has more going on today. The good news is - whenever they call me for my cataract surgery (yes, still waiting!) we won't have to worry about mom needing appointments - we're getting all of that out of the way this week. But I'm tired now!
Frieda had suggested some songs/music that makes her feel better when she feels agitated. So - heading into Shabbat/Purim, let's talk about that - Music to Cheer You Up When Life Starts to Get You Down. Your playlist:
Right now I have Grateful Dead: 'Without a Net' playing. There's something about that whole album that makes me feel energized!
An old song by Joan Baez, The Kingdom of Childhood is always helpful!
Jimmy Cliff, Sitting in Limbo
After I get home this evening, I'll be listening to Craig Taubman's "Friday Night Live"
And people of "our generation" (apologies to the younger ones - if you are my friend, you are obviously "my generation!") who have aged hard but well - Eric Clapton, Steve Winwood, Neil Young (and all of CSNY for that matter) all soften the hard edges of life for me. That, and a little plaque John gave me years ago, which I keep right over my computer. A little possum hanging onto a kite's tail: Hang in there, Shabbat is coming!
And so it is! Hang in there - Shabbat Shalom Chag Sameach Purim!

I was mostly MIA yesterday. Thursday is not usually my busiest day, but yesterday was nuts...
I always have my students write a ditty for Purim. Often, I get them to sing it at the Purim celebration. I didn't do it with the students at my own shul (and can't with the students I teach at the Conservative shul since we meet on Saturday mornings and there's no writing on Shabbat; the Monday teacher takes care of holiday stuff), but the students at the Reform temple where I teach did this:
(to the tune of “Do Your Ears Hang Low”)
Do you like hamentashen If so, then you can nosh ‘em You can celebrate with groggers With the cobblers and the toddlers You can dress up like Queen Esther — Or even like a jester Do you like Pu- rim?
You know Haman was the bad guy ‘cause he wanted Jews to die Mordechai, that man, found out and he spread the word about And then Esther told the king Of the death Hahmahn would bring Do you like Pu- rim?
Soon enough Hahmahn was gone And we all could say, “So long!” Now the Jews were safe So we all can celebrate We can eat hamentashen And dress up like a possum ‘Cause we like Pu- rim!

Shabbat shalom, all, and thanks for a great week, Angelika!
I have been listening a lot to the soundtrack from Hamilton. I haven't seen the play, but the music is wonderful and it puts me a great mood because it's so clever and timely.

Sorry for being MIA. Taken up with Purim and work. The woman who usually handles the deliveries of the mishloach manot bags is now in FLA. She is a good friend and took care of all of the preliminary arrangements as much as she could before she left, but I now have to make whatever final arrangements are needed and, with helpers, see that they all get out on Sunday. Delivering 352 bags, have at least 50 deliverers. And it's snowing. And I reminded the deliverers about turning their clocks ahead. I pretty much finished my costume, put dried chick peas in the top of the torch so it makes a nice noisemaker. All very heimish. The green face makeup arrived and it looks like a good color. Bought some makeup sponges to apply it with - hope that works out okay.
Obviously in my own world. If I don't get back Shabbat shalom and chag Purim sameach.

Hi everyone, I have 12 for shabbat dinner here tonight, so I worked a half day to come home and prepare.
I got my test results back -- negative. Just a cyst, nothing to worry about. Doing my happy dance! Thank you all for listening to me whine. If there's a next time, I hope I won't be so melodramatic.
When life starts getting me down, I like to listen to something I can sing to. Somehow the physical exertion of singing helps me feel better. Right now I'm thinking of Barry Manilow's "Trying to Get the Feeling Again."
I've got some dusting, vacuuming and cooking to do, so I probably won't make it back here. Angelika, thank you for a wonderful week, Louise, I wish I had your creative talent for costumes -- I bet you'll look fantastic! Everyone have a wonderful weekend and a Purim sameach. Shabbat shalom!

Hi everybody (if anyone is around to see this). I was fine in the morning, but spent the rest of the day (so far) feeling sick. The doctor said that if I'm not better by Monday to come back (I was there today). I have at least four different things that are actively wrong with me at the moment, ugh. Hopefully tomorrow I will feel better. If not tomorrow, then hopefully soon.
Have a good weekend and a peaceful night everyone, Lee

My computer was down most of the day, so didn't get a chance to post.
Dear Cousin gave me with a check written on an account that is closed. It bounced, of course. This is the 3rd bounced check. This game is getting old. And the bank fees are piling up too. He hasn't even offered to cover those.
Today is DH's 70th birthday, but he's not here. I think he deliberately planned to be in China on his birthday because he can't stand the idea of being 70.
My daughter has asked me to come to Houston on certain dates in March, in April and in May. Her husband is travelling to promote his book and she sometimes has to travel for work, or has to go in early for a meeting or stay late, so I'll be there to take care of the girls, get them to school or pick them up etc. I don't mind. It's easy to exercise and eat healthy in her house. That's their way of life anyway, so I don't have to do anything special.
Today, I bought fruit and veggies and went to the pool. I walked for 25 minutes in the water. What? You thought I know how to swim? Who, me? Nah. Walking in the water is as close to being an athlete as I'm gonna ever get, chaverot.
Shabbat Shalom! Chag Purim Sameach L'kulam. Have a hamentash, but don't make that your dinner - have a salad.
