What’s on your mind — how to make kugel? This week’s Torah reading? Life goals? Prayer? We are all engaged in weight loss/weight maintenance journeys and we are all Jewish or at least interested in Judaism. We like to eat, we like to discuss. It is our goal here to provide each other support on our journeys, to share experiences, to call on our rich cultural heritage and texts, and to help each other grow spiritually.
Some of us take weekly turns starting the thread:

And for those of you who stop by to read this thread without posting — you are certainly welcome to, but you are also welcome to chime in!

We're a pretty talented group of women! Kol hakavod! (If you haven't, take another look at yesterday's thread to see just how talented we are!)
For today, I had originally planned to look at aliyah #7, but I came across an article that caught my attention, so I'm changing to that one. If you're interested, here's the URL for the entire article: tinyurl.com/klbucpo
Passover is coming in about 25 days (probably fewer by now). The article as a whole was about cleaning in preparation for Passover, but here's the excerpt I'm choosing.

...While you are already cleaning for Passover you might as well go full spring clean and declutter with these 6 steps.
1. Plan Start by planning out when and where you will clean each day and put it on your calendar. Generally, it is best to start in the least used rooms, work towards the bedrooms and bathrooms, and end with the kitchen.
2. Don't Do It Alone Don't let your kids or husband get away without helping out. Everyone should be responsible for a space — their own and/or another — but do each room as a group or in pairs. Turn cleaning into quality family time.
3. Have Fun Plan some games to make it more exciting. Have a contest to see who can clean the best and rate them on speed, thoroughness, and final results. Hide something like a new toy at the bottom of your kids' closets so they have to clean to find it. Give young kids their own sponge and spray bottle of water and vinegar to clean after you declutter. Play some music and take dancing breaks.
End the day with a reward, like going out for dinner.
4. Clear Out Even though we started this to clean for Passover, we are using it as a way to clean up our home in every sense of the word. Go through everything you own and put them into one of 3 places: neatly in a place they belong, in the trash, or in a donation bag.
Big tip: If you haven't worn or used it in a year, get rid of it — this applies to everything in your home, even food, spices, and appliances.
5. Get Help While you must be the one to go through all your closets and drawers it is okay to bring in the reinforcements (cleaning professionals) to do the heavy lifting once you have cleared the clutter, especially if you don't have confidence in your sweeping and mopping skills like me.
6. Take Pictures Make sure to take some before and after pictures and share them with us on this post and/or on social media. It will inspire me and others to get moving and cleaning. ...

I sometimes think Clutter is my middle name... I can't even describe to you what my desk looks like...

And I don't want to describe to you what my garage looks like. It would take a lot more than 25 days to clear it.

Roasted Cauliflower "Rice" with Garlic and Lemon. (You can use this for Passover)
Ingredients: 16 oz. riced cauliflower (available at Trader Joe's, Costco and supermarkets) 1 TBSP olive oil 3 cloves garlic, chopped 1/2 tsp kosher salt 2 tsp fresh chopped parsley 1 tsp fresh lemon juice
Directions: Preheat oven to 425F. Spray a large sheet pan with oil. Combine the riced cauliflower, olive oil, garlic and salt on the prepared sheet pan, spread out in a single layer and roast in oven 25 minutes mixing halfway, until golden. Remove from oven, top with fresh lemon juice and parsley. Makes 1 1/2 cups.
It doesn't make the kitchen smell of cauliflower, and it tastes just like rice. Enjoy.

Boker Tov All! I think there is something inherent in our DNA, whether Pesach cleaning, New England Spring Cleaning, or in the French countryside, fat feather-beds hanging out of upstairs windows on sunny mornings - when the snow starts to melt, we MUST start to clean! I don't know if it is as pronounced in the South - but in the North, where we have tracked mud & ice in through the doors all winter, shlepped wood (there's a nice heavy layer of sawdust & ash around the woodstove) and, if you are like me, have forgotten about an opened box of graham crackers & marshmallows since the last fire-pit last summer (the GCs are soft, the MMs are rock hard) Pesach/Spring Cleaning is a MUST! Daylight Savings Time certainly helps - there are things you can see in daylight that elude in the dark. Cobwebs, "Irish lace" (those long strings of dust webs that hang from ceiling corners & fans). And many of my collectibles will go into the dishwasher on the short cycle - they all have a layer of dust on them.
Today is John's 65th birthday - I got him a card: Know why old men wear their pants up so high? (inside) You will soon! I need to get ready to go swimming, then I'm going to work - I'll bring take him out for dinner tonight.
Holly - It's been a great week!
Shabbat Shalom!

DH and I are like Oscar and Felix from the Odd Couple, with him definitely being Felix. He'd be happy to do spring cleaning every season! What I have noticed is that if a stack of papers gets left long enough in one place, it somehow becomes furniture. THis of course drives DH crazy, which is my role in life.

Hi everybody. I did too much today, and I am exhausted. I wish it were bedtime but it isn't quite 6PM yet. I had my PT re-evaluation, took my car in for an oil change and annual inspection (cost $245 since some parts had to be replaced), then took DS out to the movies this afternoon. I am sitting here at the computer although my desire is to crawl into a hole and stay there. Ugh.
Re cleaning: Hopefully I will be able to do some spring cleaning. My house is a mess.
I hope I will feel better tomorrow. Have a great weekend everyone. I have no idea what I will open with on Sunday, but I will try to think of something between now and then.
Have a peaceful evening, Lee

Just stopping by to say halloe and Shabbat shalom. Kind of in the dumps today. This too shall pass.
