I'm excited to join this thread and dive into the book. I just downloaded it this weekend after reading the thread on the main discussion board. I'm going to read chapter 5 tonight and write out my Arc before I go to bed. Thanks to all who have posted and given me some great ideas!
Here is my list: 1. Look better - feel more comfortable in photos, lose double chin, buy cute clothes in "normal" stores.
2. Feel better - take less medicine, have less back pain, have more energy.
3. Have more confidence - increased self esteem, feel like I've finally accomplished something, not afraid to try new things, confidence to apply for a new job.
4. Make life easier - fit in airplane seats, ride roller coasters again.
5. For others - feel more attractive to others (don't be afraid to go on a date), don't worry what others are thinking when I order food/eat, stop listening to my parents nag.
Im going set a calendar reminder to review twice a day @ 11am when I am ready for a snack and again at 6:30 when I get home for work and am tempted to skip my planned meal and head out to a restaurant.

I'm going to both hand write and put them in my phone this time. I hope that helps me remember to read them on a timely basis.

Here are mine: - My health will improve; my blood pressure and cholesterol readings will be lower
- I will have more energy, stamina and confidence
- Clothes will fit better - I won't have to worry about disguising my belly
- I'll look better in a bathing suit and naked
- I'll feel better about myself - I won't be embarrassed to meet people that haven't seen me in a few years
- My knees won't hurt
- My yoga practice will improve
- I won't have to use lotion to pry my wedding rings off
I took Hipmom's suggestion and snapped a photo of my card for my phone. I set the alarm on my fitbit to remind me first thing in the morning and again early in the afternoon.

Reading mine over they seem a little vain & self centered, but 1. Even though I'm middle aged & obese I have no health problems so it's not a concern 2. DH mentioned my weight 2 years ago but I'm not doing this for him, I'm doing this for me! And damn it, It's time to let myself take care of me.
1. I'll like what I see in the mirror 2. I'll look better in photos 3. I won't be embarrassed in front of extended family & friends 4. My knees & feet will feel better 5. I can wear the smaller clothes in my closet 6. I will look younger 7. I will be more confident 8. I will have more energy 9. I will wear my wedding ring again

I'll look at my cards in the morning (I'm going to use 1 as a bookmark for my Beck book). Then either in the evening after dinner or when I get home from work & I' typically ravenous. Or both.

I listened to the book last night. Only downside is that they don't really tell you when they start a new chapter, so I ended up listening a smidge ahead. Anyway,I was just going to use my ARC from last year, but after reading your first post, I will go back over it tomorrow, think it through and come up with a new one.

ashtangi, it takes time and energy but it actually reduced my stress. I no longer stress about eating and feel a lot less guilt. Take each day's task as it comes and it will be done. Besides what do you have to lose except for weight? 😉

3pigletboys, mine are totally self centered. It is all about your reasons to lose weight so it should be self centered!

I have them on my phone and plan to check at 6am and 9pm every day.

I am so grateful for this thread and excited to be involved! My list so far: 1. I will have a healthy, longer life so I'll be around a long time for my daughter, and not an become an unhealthy burden to her. 2. I will look and feel better and younger. 3. I will have confidence when I'm around others. 4. I will be able to buy clothes at my favorite stores because I'll fit into the sizes they offer. 5. I will be able to participate in physical activities.
I am going to review my ARC at my most hungry times--mid morning, when I get home from work, and before bed. I will set silent alarms on my fitbit to help me remember. I will have a copy on my phone so they are always handy.

I have really learned a lot reading everyone's ARCs. Many resonated with me that I had not even thought of. But I think that instead of coming up with an ever expanding list of ARSs, I'm going to focus on 3 or 4. If ever those no longer motivate me, I'll replace them with any number of equally valid candidates.

In case it is not clear, today's task is to practice reading your ARC at least twice and also read any material you haven't gotten to yet. We'll move to another task tomorrow.

My ARC, so far:
1. I'll have more energy 2. I'll be able to wear the clothes I already own. 3. I'll be in better health 4. I'll feel like I'm in control 5. I'll feel more outgoing.
I've written them on an index card and added reminders to read on my phone for early morning and late afternoon. I think I'll write them on a sticky note or two and post on the refrigerator and my computer monitors.

I have reviewed my ARC and then went for a two mile walk. I've decided not to listen to music but reflect on this journey while I walk.

My ARC review times are when I get up, at bedtime and others as needed. Really enjoying the mental tune up that's already happening just from getting back on track with Beck!

Sorry that I'm late to the party! I've written my ARC's on a card, but I'll put them in my phone since my phone is always with me. Some are shallow, some are not. My little sister is getting married in 2018 and I want to look good in her pictures.
1- I'll look good for my sister's wedding as her maid of honor! 2- Reduce pain in back, knees, and feet. 3- Reduce daily heartburn. 4- Gain self-confidence. 5- Feel comfortable in my own skin. 6- I can sit where I'd like without worry about breaking chairs/benches/people. 7- I'll have the energy to be more active. 8- I won't use food as an emotional crutch 9- I'll be okay with having my picture taken. Right now I don't even like selfies. 10- I'll get better sleep.

Mare, thanks again for doing this! Here's my ARC:
1. Improved health 2. Have more energy 3. Improved confidence and self-esteem 4. Be able to shop for clothes in regular sizes 5. Live a longer, happier life
I have mine on an index card in a little picture holder on my dinette table and another copy on my computer. I plan to read them in the morning and evening.

This is so helpful - thank you! I'm a first timer and had no idea what to expect with this thread. I was embarrassed to post my ARC, but I realized that this is part of the process and I must jump in and really commit - so here goes.
So that my hips don't bust a seam. Zipper my pants without holding in my stomach and dancing. Have more energy - not sluggish. See a happy person in the mirror.
I have a card taped to my mirror in the bathroom, and on my tablet (which is always with me).

This is my second go 'round. And I didn't get too far the first time. I'm committed to give this the attention it deserves because I'm worth it.
My ARC I'll feel better about myself- increase my self esteem I won't dread deciding what to wear each day - more clothing options will be available to me I'll feel more energetic and enjoy working out I'll feel better physically and be able to get off my medications I'll be a good example to my DD
Edited to add that these are typed into a note on my phone and reminders go off at 8am and 8 pm to read them.

Good morning!
I read my ARCs last night and this morning, re-read the chapter in Beck for the umpteenth time, and am ready to roll today.
I've added a couple new ARCs, and tweaked the others. I'm not second guessing sounding too shallow in my ARCs - namely there are a pair of size 8 jeans in my closet that I would very much like to fit into again.
Anyway. That's where I am at.

Just read my ARCs from last year. It was interesting to see how I've changed in my reasons in the past year and a half. They were much more negative, although I didn't see it as that when I made them. I just finished my latest round of talk therapy and am in a really good mental space, so it will be interesting to see how that plays out with this. Anyway, here are my new ARCs-
1. I'm tired of all the mental space and time I have given to food, my weight, and my perceived body deficits in my lifetime. I may not be able to eliminate it 100%, but I can greatly reduce and figure out ways to counter them when they arise.
2. I binge eat when in a bad mental space and I know certain foods trigger me. So, by doing this, I will reduce that and hopefully lengthen the time between lapses.
3. When I feel better about myself in my skin, I am a kinder, gentler mom.
4. Sleep better.
5. Reduce and eliminate aches and pains I might try to write off with getting old and not being able to do anything about.
6. Longevity and quality of life. I'm not getting any younger and I want to be around and functioning for my kids and grandkids.
7. Feel comfortable in the clothing styles I most like.
8. Make gains in CrossFit. Some things will be definitely easier when I shed the extra padding I have.
9. Help me continue to reinforce the positive strides I made in regards to my body image in this last round of therapy.
10. Learn skills to be able to model and teach my kids so they hopefully can avoid the same struggles.
