What’s on your mind — how to make kugel? This week’s Torah reading? Life goals? Prayer? We are all engaged in weight loss/weight maintenance journeys and we are all Jewish or at least interested in Judaism. We like to eat, we like to discuss. It is our goal here to provide each other support on our journeys, to share experiences, to call on our rich cultural heritage and texts, and to help each other grow spiritually.
Some of us take weekly turns starting the thread:

And for those of you that stop by to read this thread without posting - you are welcome to do that but you are also welcome to chime in

Boker Tov All! Louise - safe travels, and I hope you have a voice today after singing yesterday!
Frieda - hand pats & (((((gentle hugs))))) to you.
I find myself eating an inordinate amount of rhubarb this spring - it seems my body craves it. I do cook it with some sugar, lime juice, and tapioca (the last batch had a bag of strawberries added to it). I have actually never thought of it as particularly healthy, probably because it is almost inedible without sugar added, and the leaves are rather toxic. So - I did some research: Rhubarb is apparently good for - Weight loss, it increases good cholesterol in the body, is full of antioxidants, good for the digestions, is high in vitamin K, which is important for brain & bone health, and it is high in calcium, inhibits cancers, and supports good blood circulation! Who Knew! I am surprised and delighted.
So - at this seasonal transition, my question to all of you is - are there foods that you crave? Things that pleasantly surprise you?
Have a good day ladies!

Good morning everybody. Hope you are all well. The sky here is gray and it is lightly sprinkling. The trees are remarkably green, and lots of flowers are blooming. In short, it is spring, and I love it. I have a fairly busy day planned for today, but I also hope to be able to read more of the book I started yesterday.
Re today's topic: I can't think of any particular seasonal cravings; they set in when it's warmer and more stone fruit is available. Right now, my cravings have been for coffee, cinnamon-raisin bagels (with or without cream cheese), and Chobani yogurt. I started getting back into the yogurt when I was taking antibiotics awhile ago, and rediscovered how much I like it. DS likes it a lot too. We buy the flavored types, especially the seasonal ones, for snacking and the plain yogurt for cooking. I don't like plain yogurt that much by itself. Some of my favorite flavors are key lime, apricot, apple cinnamon (seasonal), and coconut.
I'll be back later, hopefully with the results of yesterday's x-rays on my arm. Have a peaceful day, Lee

First off: Frieda, I hope you have a better day today. Sounds like a very tough experience for you. Adult kids are so hard. We can't just send them to their rooms for time out anymore.
Lee, I hope you feel better soon
Peachy, your story yesterday made me so proud of you!!
In addition to the junk food I always crave, lately I have been missing stone fruit, as Lee said. Not long ago, Frieda posted about Trader Joe's iced cauliflower; I tried it and love it now! Can't wait to have it again. Also lately I have been enjoying, for lunch, really large healthy salads, with chicken on top and not too much dressing. I like to full feeling I get , especially when I know I have kept hte

I am so enjoying my left-over cooked date-prune-raisin-cranberry charoset. I cooked it with no sugar or honey, but it's very sweet by itself. After cooking it, I put it in the food processor and it spreads on toast just like jam.
No more matza, thank goodness. That stuff is murder on your bowels! I made a sweet fried matza dipped in syrup for a dessert, and a broiled garlic matza that I used like croutons for a salad. We also had Shmura Matza at our family seder which tasted entirely different from boxed matza. It gave you a sense of having just been hastily cooked and snatched from the fire. Very biblical.
In the spring, I don't crave food; I crave flowers, particularly tulips and daffodils. What is it about flowers from bulbs that is so special?
Today, once again, I am still trying to wake up DS#4 by phone and text and get him moving. I'll have to go over there again to drag him out of bed. I contacted his ILS worker agency to see why no one has been coming to see him. Lee, having your son at home certainly has its advantages. But then, if I had to live with his slovenly habits and his oppositional behavior, I'd probably be: 1. divorced and 2. sitting in jail for murder.

I'm not craving anything in particular, except I don't want to see any matzah for a long time!
My friend Mike, who was supposed to come home from the hospital on Monday, did not. He had a fall in his room in the early morning on his way to the bathroom, bruised his head and had a subcranial bleed. They transferred him to intensive care and are keeping a close eye on him. We're not sure how long he'll have to stay in the hospital now. His partner (my bff) is worried, exhausted and just a mess.
So now I'm reading an extra aliyah this Shabbat; my bff was supposed to read it, but he can't concentrate on anything else right now but Mike. So I'm reading the fifth, sixth and seventh aliyot, plus the maftir. I've been studying like mad since yesterday, and I warned the ritual director that I might need help doing the added one, so he's ready to help, as always. Since Mike will still be in the hospital on Friday, we're hosting Shabbat dinner again too. We're going to make pasta -- nice and easy, and of course, CHALLAH! Oh yes, fruit and vegetables too...but everyone is looking forward to chametz!
It was beautiful outside today, clear, breezy and sunny. Very cheery!
