Good morning,
Ugh, had a terrible night's sleep, so thought I'd do something productive, at least, and start us up again😕
Here's my QOTD:
What makes your favorite horse to ride, your favorite ride?
I hear a lot about horses either being brave, or light and responsive - what's the number one quality you look for? For me, my favorite school horse where I ride is a little tricky in that he tends to lock up, especially on the right side, but once you get him on/accepting the bit - man, he moves like a dream. He also has a tendency to be a cantankerous thing; but he's really all talk, and no action and would never intentionally pull any shenanigans when you're on him (always a plus, right?😋). He has really shown me what it means to be the "boss" in the rider/horse relationship; something which definitely does *not* come naturally to me.
I hope everyone has a terrific Wednesday!

Good Morning -thanks for getting us going (what is your name or is just chickadee ok? LOL) Lovely morning here today -have a 9am lesson w/ dog for agility (a friend who does this with her aussies has been working w/us) then off to ride. Favorite horse -tough question- back in my showing days it was my OTTB who i did dressage on -he was smooth and even always a good ride. Now I would say my current ride -my mare (I never thought I would say THAT!) she is safe, sane and comfortable on the trails. A nice forward walk and other gaits are good as well. Makes for a lovely trail ride.
I know there aren't too many of us here yet - but how many are WW refugees?

Waving to all - HAGDSounds like you have a fun morning planned! I've ridden two OTTB in my lessons; one I just do *not* get on with; he is soooo skittish and jumpy, which makes *me* a wreck, it's just a disaster. The other one I was riding for awhile was a total sweetheart - but in March while riding him, he spooked at the very end of my lesson, and I ended up falling and breaking my collarbone. I got back to riding in May, but haven't ridden him since. I'm wondering if TBs and I just aren't meant to be😝 My other favorite ride was a mare, also! So great at allowing you to work on your stuff instead of spending time fixing issues on her end. Unfortunately she is now a lease horse, so I don't get to ride her anymore.

Morning all! Thanks for getting us going, Chickadee/Alison :-) My real name is Cindy, btw... I am a WW refugee, but I don't think I chatted on the horse lovers group much since I was part of another group. Anyway- my favorite horse to ride is my Bravo - as I mentioned yesterday I had lost confidence riding (I started riding at 10yrs old, but had knee surgery (ACL) and slowly became more timid about riding until I didn't really ride at all for many years). Bravo is just a great partner- he's a stallion and I know there is a lot of negativity about stallions out there- but he really is a gentleman and we can ride behind a mare in heat with no issues. I have also ridden with other well behaved stallions with no issues. At any rate- being a stallion he handles certain situations differently- if something happens on the trail that startles him- he grounds himself and puffs up. So instead of flight, he prepares to fight (but not like aggressively- just the energy is one of "I'm going to take care of this issue" as opposed to "I'm gonna get the heck outta here!"). Since having a horse bolt is my biggest fear, this attitude makes everything so much easier for me. My 2 mares that I sometimes ride are green, but very solid- they will startle but have never run on me- but their energy is one of flight- "If this gets worse, I'm gonna get the heck outta here!".
For all but my lazy mare, I love how they love get out on the trail and really explore- it's nice knowing they are enjoying the ride too. Sometimes they don't want to turn back. My lazy one though- she'd be happiest tied to the trailer with her hay bag. Sometimes after a 2 hr or so ride she acts like she can't even get back in the trailer, lol.

Good morning.
I did my 3 mile walk this morning, picked the garden, spread ant bait out, took a shower, cooked and ate breakfast and now just getting to post.
Alison thanks for starting the board. It's really for anyone to start. Whoever gets here first. As to WW refugees I think we all are at some point. I quit WW in May as I wasn't happy with the direction WW is going and the SP plan and me weren't getting along. I found the iTrackbites app and it basically follows WW but it also has the older plans too. I tried to go back to PP at first but still was gaining as I did all during that time period PP was in place. Then about 6 weeks ago I started following the old Momentum plan which is the plan I originally lost all my wt on and as of yesterday I have lost a total of 6#. That averages to 1# a week. It gives me hope.
As to my favorite ride... My first horse DH bought me 3 weeks after we were married was a wonderful smooth gaited Racking Horse. I learned so much with him. He was also my first show horse but I also trail rode him. He really didn't like to cross bridges but other than that he was fun to ride.
My last two horses Squiggle and Sugar were both good show horses but even better trail horses after their show years were over. Squiggle was one of those horses who had to be first but that was okay. He was bold, would cross water, bridges, planks of wood and jump over small obstacles boldly. If ever he refused to go someplace you could be sure the footing was treacherous. He was a great example for young horses to follow. Sugar on the other hand was more laid back and was just as happy to be in the back of the pack as well as in front or the middle of the pack. She had a wonderful smooth long strided walking gait plus she was only 14.2 hands and was much easier to mount and dismount.

Cindy- Bravo sounds wonderful -you are right -some people have "issues" w/ stallions - I have only ridden one once & he was really very nice. There is a Freisian Stallion up the block from where we board -Benny - he is so laid back - the owner does dressage & trail rides him -he is happy to stand & "talk" EXCEPT when he goes by our pasture & especially when Penny is in heat -he gets bouncy -if we are on the trail & encounter him we both give wide berth (I am a timid/cautious rider) as I don't want any issues with either horse! When in doubt I will dismount & lead! That being said - we had a lovely ride this morning - the bugs were practically non-existant! TTFN

Hi, all! Still checking in here even though I still post on the old WW site. I think my favorite horse of all time was one I catch rode on. Young gelding but so sweet and so smooth. Galivan was his name; would have bought him in a heartbeat if I'd had $20k That was the nice thing about the couple I rode for/with. They always had horses moving through. He liked to raise TBs for racing, and she liked to raise hunters. Never a dull moment Have a good day, all!
