The first time I went through the Beck book, someone posted the Samuel L. Jackson quote from Pulp Fiction "Sit yo ass down". I am stealing this! The three main meals are okay for me. But I am a stand-up snacker. I never realized it, but even if I grab pretzels to eat on the couch, I start with 10 and have 3 left by the time I actually sit down. This is going to take some work.

I think portioning out what I eat goes hand in hand with this. No more grabbing a handful of something and chowing down. If I take it to a table and chair I think I will be much more aware of not only what I eat but how much I eat.

I definitely need to work on this. The combination of mindless eating and lack of planning really gets me. Snacking through the day bc I haven't planned meals and snacks, bites as I'm getting meals ready or putting them away, grabbing treats at work bc I can't leave for a proper break, and too much multitasking. Sitting at a table with a plate and silverware, no distractions, and meal planning.

Happy Friday!
I'm sitting on the mindless eating couch with many of you!
Sitting for meals isn't really a problem, but snacking while standing or cooking is. One of my most difficult times is when I get home from work. I want a little somthin-somthin because...well, habit really. I'll grab a couple crackers, then a string cheese, and later maybe some nuts or fruit. Before I realize it, I've consumed a few hundred calories. And then, I forget what I ate! Really need to work on that!!
It has helped the last few days since I set my phone alarm to read my ARCs right when I get home. At least I'm not walking in the door and making a beeline to the fridge!
Have a mindful weekend everyone!

I read Day 3 yesterday thinking that this is not an issue for me because I really don't have this habit. As I was cutting my watermelon this morning, I had eaten two pieces before I even realized what I was doing! Guess I will start paying attention. It goes along with the mindless eating that I do.

I know that I do this way more often than I think. I've gotten better over the four or so times that I've started Beck, but it's still a problem. I'm a sampler when I cook, and am guilty of grabbing a handful of something and munching it mindlessly. It's easier in the summer, but once I go back to work, there are always temptations in the staff room.
I do generally eat meals while sitting down, but I need to work on being less distracted and eating mindfully. I know that lesson is coming up. It's still one of my downfalls.
I think today I'm going to buy a notebook and keep notes this time. I've written in my book enough times that I need a new space. Maybe a tiny investment in this will help me stay in the game this time. I've always dropped out after about two weeks.

Our problem is not sitting down, it's sitting down in front of the TV while eating dinner. We never did this when the kids were home.
I'm also guilty of just getting 11 almonds and then sitting down here with them.

As others have said- eating sitting down is not a problem for me. At work I eat at my desk and at home I eat at the kitchen table. I like to sit alot (hence the issue with exercise) so sitting down is very natural to me (ha!) Though while I am stting down and eating I do tend to get distracted, by work or reading at the table so that is where I will focus on. Putting the utensil down after each bite is something I am working on (in the past I have consumed my food very quickly because of the shame I felt while eating) so Im working on mindfully eating each bite. Cinderella has my proxy - I'll just add that I tend to take the last bite and get up to put the dish in the dishwasher before I've actually chewed and enjoyed that last bite.

This is a biggie for me and goes hand in hand with sticking to 3 meals a day. I feel pretty certain that I will never sit at the table with a knife or spoon and scoop pb out of the jar, but I'll do that standing, no problem! I'm pretty good about meals, but snacking is where I get derailed. Therefore, if I work on eliminating snacking, it should help with standing and vice versa, right? So far so good today, although I've almost slipped several times, even with being extra mindful today. Good luck, everyone!

What an eye opener - as I was reading the chapter last night I was thinking "I don't do that - we always sit down for meals - this doesn't pertain to me!" Well, rude awakening this morning I almost popped a strawberry in my mouth as I was preparing our breakfast. Then this afternoon I had to bake for a party and I almost went to lick the beaters. I stopped myself on both accounts and laughed at cocky self. I can't wait to see what other rude awakenings I'm going to find out. This is only day 3!

I have definitely slipped back into this bad habit since the last time I did Beck. I taste while cooking, snack fruit & veggies while cleaning & prepping them, and pop a few chips or peanut m&m's while passing by the pantry. As of today, I'm "sitting my ass down" again before eating. Thanks for that card suggestion 😂

I thought I didn't eat a lot while not sitting down but it tends to creep, especially with the "just a taste" thing when cooking or getting my plate ready.

This was one of the major changes I made the first time I went through a Beck thread. I was surprised at how often I ate standing up. For the past 4 years I have done well at breaking this habit. The only time I eat standing up is during peach season when I stand over the sink to eat one of my favorite fruits so I won't drip that delicious but sticky peach juice everywhere.

I hav slipped back into not-greatnhabits with this one: a lick here, a bite there. My biggest problem, though, is mindless eating. I eat at my desk at work, while, working. I eat breakfast while reading the paper. Now, those meals are measured, but I'm still not paying attention to my eating. I have some work to do.

Forget my earlier post about oh, this was so not that big of a deal for me last time.
Enough said.
Back to the book. And practice. Practice. Practice.

When I read the material for Day 3, I realized I was going to struggle with this one I take a bite of almost everything I make, before I sit down to eat. I'm relieved to see others have a problem with this too. I've made a 3x5 card with reminders to sit while eating and I'll probably need sticky notes in the kitchen too. This is an ingrained habit I'm going to have to work hard to break.

This is my first time through the Beck book. However being on WW Online for 3 1/2 yrs I learned to eat meals sitting at the kitchen table. For awhile I ate my snacks in my recliner though. We have a 15 mo rather large puppy now and I share my evening snacks with her so I make a point of getting them out and eating at the table for them as well.I have also learned to eat more slowly and that really helps. My puppy is not a beggar or tries to get on my lap but she just looks at me with those beautiful brown eyes of hers and I started giving in.It helps me too.

Like others, I didn't think this would be difficult. I always sit to eat. I didn't realize how much I eat on my way to sit!
A work in progress.

I sit down to eat, or so I thought! Like a lot of you found myself grabbing a little of this and a handful of that today (oh, oops!)...I'm a grazer and now need to work on the mindless part. If I'm going to snack, use a plate and track. Yep, and use that scale if I can find it.

I'm fairly good with this, mainly because I'm lazy (I like sitting!) and I'm not much of a cook so I don't do the taste test thing. I could definitely do with tightening up though as there are times when I'll just pop something in my mouth whilst I'm putting a meal together & I'm definitely guilty of it in work when I'm passing the snack table.

This is the one thing that has pretty much stuck with me since I started Becking. It does make me super aware of my tendency to eat mindlessly. I will continue to work on this step since I do slip up once in a while. I'll have to remember the " sit yo ass down" suggestions from jenlovesdoggies

This is something that I need to work on. I love to cook and eat while preparing food.
I can also relate to other people licking the spoon that I used to a scoop hummus or lick the knife after making a peanut butter and jelly sandwich.
I need to be more mindful of when I put food into my mouth. I am sure there are times that I eat standing up and don't even realize it.

I don't stand and eat much. But I do need to be more mindful. And maybe I do it more than I think.

Eating standing up is not an issue for me, except at work. I will concentrate on sitting down to eat at work and being mindful about eating.

When I read day 3, my initial reaction was this one will be easy, I always sit down to eat my meals. Then I read everyone's posts, and realized that I actually eat a lot of food standing up! I sample grapes, cherries and blueberries as I wash them, and as they drain prior to putting them in the fridge, every time I walk past I have some. When I prepare a snack of cheese and crackers, I always eat some broken crackers straight from the box. When I steam baby carrots for a meal, I always crunch on some raw ones as I cook. So, I will need to be mindful, and catch myself snacking mindlessly standing up.
