Morning! Barb, I hope you can get a nice ride in before the bugs get too bad. Do you have any fly remedies you particularly care to use?
No riding for me today; my husband and I are having a little stay-cation as it's our anniversary this week (14 years!), and our kiddos are with Grandma and Grandpa for a few days, woot! Taking a walk in a few, then visiting some wineries😊
I hope everyone has a great day!

Good morning. Thanks for starting the thread Barb.
QOTD (question of the day) How often do you clean your tack and what do you use?
I haven't cleaned my tack since I had to put mine down. I really need to check it out. I have some Leather New but just haven't done it.

We did get a nice ride in -the bugs were mildly annoying! Figure 50 mins is better than nothing - we did about 3.5 miles -trotted whenever the trail allowed. I have a Wintec saddle -i am bad about cleaning it - - to be honest maybe every 3-4 months I will use the Wintec cleaner on it -. I use a Biothane Dr Cooks bitless bridle so again minimal cleaning needed - I am better about wiping the nose & brow band clean. For reins I use a one piece soft rope (guess it's western?) reins -love, love, love them for trail riding -so no cleaning there!

Has anyone made their own bug spray? I thought about mixing up my own concoction, but then realized I'd need all sorts of essential oils and stuff, and, well...life sort of got in the way!
Glad you got the ride in, Barb; 50 minutes sounds terrific!

Hey Cathy glad you could finally get here. Nice to see a new avatar.
Chickadee the only bug spray I have made was for my veggie garden and you don't want to put cayenne pepper on your horse.

Bug spray- I pretty much use whatever I can remember to pick up at the tack store-to be honest I don't think any of them do better than others! I use Farnam Bronco -or Endure -depending on what I pick up -I also get $5 farnam coupons which really helps - I go thru a bottle a month pretty much!

Ha, I'd bet not! The stuff I was looking to make had eucalyptus and peppermint oils, along with other things that escape me right now.

Good morning. Thanks for starting the thread Barb. QOTD (question of the day) How often do you clean your tack and what do you use? I haven't cleaned my tack since I had to put mine down. I really need to check it out. I have some Leather New but just haven't done it. I have stuff for cleaning my boots and chaps, but not for saddles, etc. (I use the school tack where I ride) Guess what? I've never cracked the stuff for my boots, etc, open! I'm really the worst when it comes to taking care of that stuff. However! My 7 year old DD came with me the the farm for my lesson one day, and spent the time in the tack room with some of the older girls at the barn. She volunteered to clean chaps, sort bits, sweep...so, when I found her in there she very excitedly said she'd clean my things for me. Score!

Hi, QOTD I clean my saddle about once every 3 weeks in the summer and more often in the winter. I use Effax products for cleaning and conditioning. I clean my bridle with the same products as the saddle but sometimes just wipe it down with Leather New spray if I am in a hurry. My saddle is due for a cleaning!
