Did you make something new this year that turned out amazing? Post it here and when it falls off the first page I'll move it to recipe board where we can look at it next year. One of you who has a better memory, that is, because I forget my own name if no one reminds me. OK, I'll start. This cake turned out awesome and I didn't even use the caramel topping, I used maple icing, because I don't like non-dairy caramel. Next year I will look at this post and remind myself to do the streusel when the bundt pan looks half full, not when there is half the batter gone, because bundts get wider and all my streusel ended up closer to the bottom of the cake. www.thekitchn.com/recipe-pumpkin-bundt-with-cinnamon-streusel-and-salted-caramel-234107

I may make that next weekend. I made the Cook’s Illustrated Maple Pecan Pie and it was good but very sweet. And required pre cooking the filling. This looks easier!

Cranberry Pie
1 9" baked pie crust 1 3 oz. package raspberry jello 3/4 C boiling water 1/2 C orange juice 1 16 oz. can whole berry cranberry sauce 1 C cold half and half 1 tsp. grated orange peel 1 4 oz. vanilla instant pudding 1 C cool whip
Dissolve gelatin in boiling water, add orange juice. Chill until thickened but not set, stir in cranberry sauce and orange peel. Spoon into cooled crust. Chill 30 min. or until just set. Mix pudding mix with half and half until smooth, fold in cool whip. Spread over cranberry mixture. Chill 2 hours.
I've been making this for about thirty years and in that time they have come out with cranberry jello and French vanilla pudding mix. That's what I use now. I also make the cranberry sauce instead of canned.
This is the only thing I use cool whip and Jell-O for but if you like cranberries it's really good.

Cheesy Potatoes- Serves 8-10 From Cook’s Country
3 Tablespoons of unsalted butter
1 large onion finely chopped
1/4 Cup of all purpose flour
1 1/2 Cups of chicken broth
1 cup of half and half
1 3/4 teaspoons of salt
1/2 teaspoon of dried thyme
1/4 teaspoon of pepper
8 oz. of sharp cheddar cheese ( 2 cups) I like Tillamook brand for creaminess.
30 oz. bag of frozen SHREDDED (not cubed) hash browns ( I put them in the fridge overnight, but it is not necessary. You may have to extend the cooking time in Step 2 a bit.)
1/2 cup of sour cream
4 oz. of sour cream and onion potato chips, crushed for topping
Adjust oven rack to middle position and heat oven to 350˚. Melt butter in in Dutch oven over medium high heat. Add onions and cook until softened, about 4 to 5 minutes. Add flour and cook, stirring constantly until golden, about 1 minute. Slowly whisk in broth, half and half, salt thyme and pepper and bring to a boil. Reduce heat to medium low and simmer, stirring occasionally, until slightly thickened, 3-5 minutes. Off heat, whisk in cheddar cheese until melted and smooth.
2. Stir potatoes into sauce, cover, and cook, stirring occasionally, over low heat until thawed, about 10 minutes. Off heat, stir in sour cream until combined.
3. Transfer mixture to a greased 13 x9 baking dish and top with potato chips. Bake until golden brown, 45-50 minutes. Let cool 10 minutes before serving.
Make ahead-Potato mixture can be refrigerated in baking dish, covered with foil for up to 2 days. To serve, bake potatoes, still covered with foil for 20 minutes. Remove dish from oven and remove foil. Top with crushed potato chips and bake 45-50 minutes.
I liked how easy this was to make and I liked the chips on top instead of the usual cornflakes.

And these-
Three Pepper Pecans-Makes 3 cups
These are so good. It starts off sweet and the you get a little kick from the pepper. These are easy and quick to make.
Ingredients:
Nonstick cooking spray
1/2 cup sugar
3 tablespoons of water
1 teaspoon of garlic SALT (NOT garlic POWDER) They will be dull & ugly if you use powder.
1/2 teaspoon paprika
1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
1/4 teaspoon cayenne or ground red pepper
3 cups of pecan halves
Directions: Preheat oven to 325 degree F. Line a 15x10x1-inch baking pan (any rimmed cookie sheet will work) with foil; coat foil with cooking spray and set aside. In a large skillet combine sugar, water, garlic salt, paprika, black pepper, and cayenne pepper. Bring to boiling over medium heat; boil gently, uncovered, for 2 minutes. Stir in pecan halves until well-coated. Spread nuts on the foil-lined pan. Bake in preheated oven for 15 to 20 minutes or until browned, stirring occasionally. Cool; break apart large clusters. Store in an airtight container at room temperature up to 1 week. Makes 3 cups.

I used this recipe as a guide for Pecan Brownies. www.justataste.com/pecan-pie-brownies-recipe/I used a box mix, baked in a 9X11 pan. I would cook the brownies a little bit longer next so they are little more set when you pour the topping on them.

I don’t even have a recipe, but we always do 1 turkey in the oven (my turkey) and one on the grill (DHs turkey). This year, DH did a dry salt brine, rinsed and dried the turkey and then coated and basted it in ... Coca Cola. I know that sounds awful, but it was delicious. We can never use the drippings from the grill turkey for gravy because they tend to burn, so that’s not a big deal.
