Good morning! Yesterday was a little messed up for me - when I got to work, the hard drive in my computer had died. It took several hours to get tech support and finally in mid-day they brought me a laptop and spend another hour getting that one to find all my files and emails. I never really started work until mid-afternoon. It was very frustrating. I'm told my rebuilt computer will be back this morning sometime. I have a lot of catching up to do from being out two days last week.
Hope you have a great Tuesday!

Morning Maryenne and those to follow.
With the work pileup, it's always a kind of "punishment" to come back from vacation, isn't it? I'm sure the computer breakage didn't help.
I made my first over-60 decision.
I had made an ambitious plan to drive out to NY/MA to have a F2F and to see a litter of Newf pups I've been waiting for for a year ( not the whole litter!). I live in Wisconsin. My current dog (my new avatar), Izzy, has bone cancer, sadly. I won't recount how I lost her brother last year after a long illness, thus the looking for pups for so long.
After a 4-hour drive back from St. Paul, I decided to check flights and got one that will save time and road backache. Not too much more expensive than the hotels plus gas (plus time I'd be using and no exercise!)
Score one for over-60s decision-making!
Have a good day, everyone.

Hi all, Maryenne, sorry you got derailed yesterday. I used to teach computer skills and know all to well that we can't live with 'em or without them, how was DH's first day of retirement?? Yes friends, It is no surprise to you that I love to bake, mostly simple recipes. I look for ones that can be cut down in size to fit just two people and/or that can be frozen in individual servings. Honestly I've found that we don't binge on sweets like we used to when we never had any in the house. I really enjoy just a couple of bites of something sweet after lunch. I usually substitute a sweetener for at least half of the sugar and will often use light butter if I don't think it will change the consistency. I have a cherry crumble recipe that I've cut in size to make only 4 pieces in a small 6x6 dish. I stay away completely from recipes that have over 400 calories per serving and even 350 calories unless I know I can reduce the calories. I always read the reviews on something that I am considering and use them as a lead. Now you have my baking philosophy.....it does serve as a hobby that I totally enjoy. It has been years since I've fried anything......yes I'm rationalizing. Off to lunch today with a BFF who will be retiring in a couple of years. Otherwise no plans for today. Our temps are to rise slowly over the next couple of days, very humid. Happy Tuesday, Peg

Good morning!
Maryenne, I think we can probably all relate to your frustration yesterday. As Peg said, just coming back to work after time off means there is always "catch-up" to do, and then not being able to use your computer makes it almost impossible to do anything. Even here at home now, I am totally lost without mine. I keep track of everything from blood pressure, blood sugar counts for doctor visits to a spreadsheet that calculates when individual medicines are due for reorder, etc. and when all appointments for the four of us are scheduled on the computer. Funny to think that I remember when we didn't have personal computers (and that doesn't seem so long ago) and now they are so integrated with our lives that we can't function without them.
Newf good for you in making the decision to fly out. That will be far less tiring on such a long drive. Hope you will find exactly the right puppy for you.
Peg, enjoy your lunch with your friend! It's great that you enjoy baking. It's a relaxing hobby, and has the added benefit of tasting delicious!
I'll be MIA tomorrow and Thursday. DH is coming home this evening, and I'm going tomorrow morning. The cabinets in the rental are new, and I want to encourage potential renters to keep them nice so I'm going to go ahead and line them with shelf paper. We already have two people who are interested in renting, and once we actually put it on the market it will go fast. This will also give me a chance to see the finished renovation other than just in pictures, and the bonus is that I'll get to spend a little time with DD and family.
Hello to everyone who checks in after me. Have a fabulous day!

Went to a cooking class last night ... the chef is from Iran and he does marvelously creative work at the restaurant at the OKC Museum of Art. But last night's class was on the cuisine of Iran and I learned so much ... and ate too much!

I stayed up late watching news ... and it blew my mind to learn that Mrs. Trump's speech was almost completely plagiarised from Michelle Obama's four years ago!! She said she wrote it herself, but I think it is more likely that someone "wrote" it for her. But no professional speechwriter would have done that unless they were trying to sabotage the campaign ... and their own career. Amateurs!

Good morning to all
Maryenne – I hope your computer is fixed. We are so dead in the water without them.
Newf – Good luck with your puppy search.
My TV died this morning. I am annoyed. I love watching travel shows and I really don’t want to have to buy a new TV right now. Now that I write that it doesn’t seem such a significant problem.
Have a great Tuesday everyone.

Good afternoon, all! I am finally home after a couple of really long days & a busy conference weekend. The conference was great but while there I dropped my phone in water. If I ordered a new one, I would not have a phone for the trip home so I took it to a repair guy & he was able to get it back in working order. The next crisis was that my DD picked me up at the conference & we went back to her apartment. I had checked the schedule to see that the Sox were not in town but failed to see that McCartney was doing a concert at Fenway. We could not find parking of any kind, anywhere. We drove around for an hour before I decided to head home. It was late--8:00 but I figured I could drive a few hours & not fight with parking. I stopped just before midnight which left me with a 12 hr drive yesterday. The other frustration was that I sat in idling traffic for almost two hours getting across the bridge & through customs. Never again!
I have company arriving tomorrow for the rest of the week. I also have decided to advertise for some pre-school music groups for the fall. Lot's to keep me busy the next few weeks.
