So cute, aulait. I finished my dishcloth during a meeting this afternoon. Just need to wash and block it. Now back to the baby blanket!

Also, I finally figured out how to purl! I was starting to think I would be knitting dishcloths for the rest of my life.

Everyone's stuff looks so great! I love having a place to chat about our projects. This is the sweater I'm currently working on, www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/versio in purple and gray. I'm also on Ravelry if anyone is interested, my user name is eleanorfb. I've been knitting for so long, I can't imagine sitting still and watching TV anymore without a project going :-)

elle, I HATE when there are shows that I have to actually pay attention to what's happening on the screen!. I prefer to watch stuff that I don't really have to "see" so that I can concentrate on my knitting! Great job with the purling clcountry. I love the colors of the yarn you've been using.

I agree. I missed all the dancing on Dancing With The Stars last night because I was focused on knitting.

Thanks for the compliment, pepper. elle, beautiful sweater! I'm impressed. ashtangi, I love the colors, too. I love bright blues and greens, and that blue/grey/white combo above makes me think of the ocean. And that's just a cheap Wal-Mart acrylic yarn. I too love to knit while I watch TV. I almost always have reruns of old comedies going for background noise, and knitting is the perfect activity to accompany those. I've been on my phone a lot less since I started knitting.

Hello my fellow stitchers!! I'm excited for this thread. I am overwhelmed by ravelry also and have not found a community over there. I just started working on a cabled cardigan. It 'State of Mind' on ravelry (I can't link to ravelry from this computer). Anyway, its pretty difficult for only my second sweater. Also, the pattern calls for M1L Purl wise increases, which the advanced knitters might know is a very difficult increase. But, I think I don't really need to use that increase because the purl side is the 'right side'. So, I think I am going to just use the easier M1R Purlwise.
Weirdly, my new favorite thing to knit is socks. I made my first pair last winter, after saying I would never do them, and I just love it! I think I mostly love how the sock seems to magically appear. I have done mostly simple/stocking stitch versions, which I really like for mindless knitting.

Okay, I have a question for the long time knitters, does there ever come a point when you have too many scarves/cowels/similar items. Lol. I am realizing that I have I have a LOT of scarves already. I don't even love making scarves that much, but I love beautiful expensive fingering weight yarn and end up making single skein shawls or scarves with it. Lol.
I counted today and I have at least six scarves... Lol. Two of them are warm winter scarves and then the other four are more fashion items. Lol.

I look forward to the day when I know what this means. I counted today and I have at least six scarves That doesn't sound like a lot of scarves to me. I would guess I have at least twenty scarves, and I didn't knit a single one of them. I can only imagine how many I'll have in a year or two. I love scarves. ETA: I have lots of winter scarves and quite a few light-weight accessory scarves, too. Now you've made me curious; I'll have to count scarves tonight.

clcountry - Oh, I have WAY more than 6 scarves total! I have a whole coat rack that has scarves on it! I think I probably have about 20 as well. I was just talking about the scarves I knit myself. @lexpixie73 - that is really kind of you to donate scarves. I think I finally understand why that is such a common thing to do for longtime knitters, you eventually will out knit what you and your family can wear! Lol.

suzieq52083, I've never knitted a scarf. I've knitted a billion pairs of socks, but they're usually gifts so I only have two pairs for myself. If you want to send me a scarf, feel free!

I can't wait to knit socks. When I first started doing this (a whole two weeks ago), I never thought I would say that. But they always look so cozy!
I don't see myself ever wanting to knit sweaters, though. Except now that I've said that, I kind of want to knit a sweater. In bright pink. With cables.
I can so easily see this becoming an all-consuming hobby for me. I really wanted to stay home and practice purling today. Thankfully, I have enough sense left to not allow myself to do that.

Knit Picks FB page had a woman's wedding bouquet made out of knitted and crocheted flowers. Made me want to make those too! Of course, just add it to all the things I wish I was working on

Cl - I decided to make a sweater last year, just so I could say I had made a sweater. I didn't think it would really be my 'thing.'. Well, I bought enough yarn for two sweaters for myself and one baby sweater on my Ireland/Scotland trip. Lol. So, I guess I am a sweater knitter... pepper - that is funny that you have never knitted a scarf! I feel like its the 'go to' project for beginners. Although, I agree with one of my teachers that they are really too long for a first project.

My first project was The Dumb Baby Sweater from Maggie Righetti's "Knitting In Plain English". That's an excellent book for new knitters, btw. I learned a whole lot of stuff making that sweater: Increases, decreases, buttonholes, how to correct mistakes, etc. And it's a super adorable little sweater. I live in a pretty warm area and don't wear scarves much. I do want ONE, just one, to wear when I walk on chillier mornings.

Oh good! It's very wordy, but it's the best How To Knit book I've ever seen.

I second pepper 's recommendation of Knitting in Plain English. It's very helpful, and funny, too. suzieq52083 I knit probably 15-sh full on shawls and shawlettes the past year and I have 20+ patterns in my favorites list, so no, you can never have too many It's kind of a running joke at my office because when I knit at lunch I always get asked if I'm making another shawl. I pretty much have every color in the rainbow covered so that I have a shawl that goes with all my outfits! Same thing with socks. They are sooooo cozy, I can't stop knitting them. And I do get cold at the office in the winter, so this helps me stay warm.

I can so easily see this becoming an all-consuming hobby for me. I really wanted to stay home and practice purling today. I vividly remember ignoring a phone call from a high school friend I hadn't heard from in a while because I was so absorbed in knitting my first garter stitch swatch, lol. I just couldn't be interrupted until I "got" the stitches. I still have that swatch, dropped stitches and all!

Does anyone have a good suggestion for an easy-ish blanket to make? I really want to make an afghan for myself.

Wahhhhh. I just had to pull out hours of work one sweater. I noticed I had done the cables in the wrong direction. There was no saving it. I actually pulled out everything I had done. I decided I needed a restart. I wasn't totally happy with how it was looking. So, it was a bit cathartic. But, man I really hate when I have to pull out that much work. I would say it was probably 8 hours of work.
