Guys - I am excited! I am almost back to the place where I had to pull out my work on my sweater. I am actually glad I pulled it out because it looks so much better this time around. My tension is better around the cables (thanks to a TechKnitter Post!). I am realizing that this sweater is going to take a looooooong time though. Lol. The first sweater I did was lace, so it was a little quicker. I know some people wouldn't understand that, but lace opens up, so you don't have to knit as much of it. And, it was only 3/4 sleeve. This sweater has lots of cables and full length sleeves. I also don't know if I will be able to work on it monogamously b/c of the difficulty level of the pattern. But, I hope to finish it by December... For reference, I am at 5/32 (2 row) repeats of only the bust right now. I will say though, I am excited because this is a good pattern to modify a bit. I am a little larger than the largest size. I was nervous about adding stitches, but after working the pattern for a while, I am not worried about it anymore.

Awesome Suzie! Post pics of the sweater when you get a chance. Cabled sweaters are so pretty. I've heard of the Hiya Hiya needles but I'm going to look at them more seriously now. It would be great to not have to buy more needles.
CL, I've always used double pointed needles for socks, so I have no experience with magic loop. I think it's a love it or hate it type of thing. I find it kind of fun to use the dpns. See what works for you. I love knitting socks. Trust me, you haven't lived until you've worn hand knit socks. They are cozier than you can imagine.
I did a total impulse buy and bought Doctor Who themed stitch markers from Etsy the other day. They were so cute I couldn't resist them. I currently have a Hello Kitty stitch marker that makes me smile every time I see it.

So glad you are happy with the sweater, Suzie! It stinks to rip something out, but I definitely think knitting is a time when, "If it's worth doing, it's worth doing right!" applies since we invest so much time, energy, and money into it. ashtangi, I definitely want to try knitting with DPNs, I was Just going to wait a while. I really want to make socks, though! I've hit a snag on my blanket. I'm about to switch yarns for the last time, which means I'm moving from the ivory back to the pink. Every time I try to knit the next row, though, the row where the stitches blend the two colors ends up on the opposite side of the blanket from when I switched from pink to white at the beginning (does that make sense?). I can't figure out how to fix it, so I've brought it with me to work, and hopefully my knitting friend will be able to help.

Hmm, CL, maybe you need to start with the opposite color then? Or pull out the yarn in the skein a bit to get something that matches better? Hopefully your knitting friend can help!

It's a completely different skein of yarn, though. It's a color block blanket. I started with a skein of pink, then switched to white for two skeins, and now I want to go back to the pink. See how there's the one row after the join where the pink and ivory bleed into each other? Now that I'm trying to switch back to pink, that bleeding is happening on the opposite side of the blanket from the first one, so there are two wrong sides. I don't know how to fix it. I'm afraid the answer is going to be that I have to rip back a row of the ivory, and that will screw up the symmetry of the design. I'm willing to do that, because an extra row of pink on one end seems better and less noticible (to anyone but me) than two wrong sides, but I don't want to if there's another way.

Ah, gotcha, I thought it was color changing yarn. I think you might have to end up ripping out a row, but I don't think you'll be able to tell. Or rather, you'll notice it, because knitters always notice the asymmetry of their projects, but no one else will They'll be too impressed that you knit anything at all! Suzie, one more q about the interchangeable needles. Do you have the four inch or five inch tips?

Knitting friend confirms, I'm going to have to rip out. Oh well.

I got a good bit of knitting done this weekend! I got most of the cuff of my sock done on Saturday. And, yesterday, I did a good bit on the sweater. I am closing in on 1/2 through the bust. I am getting faster with it I think. So, that is good. I can't wait to finish the bust and 'try it on' for the first time!

I got caught back up to where I was with my sweater this weekend, too! I managed to get past where I had to stop and rip it up and just a little further. Here's to more easy work!

ashtangi I so love that cardigan. I knitted a cabled vest for my now ex. I doubt he ever wore it, but man, I would love to have that thing back. It would be perfect for our chilly days here.

I went to the yarn store on my lunch break because I was bored and the people working there can chat when its slow. I saw all the lovely chunky/bulky wool they have out for the winter. But, it is sort of hilarious because it is like 80 degrees today. Lol. I almost bought something for a project for my SIL. I asked her what she wanted next and she told me bulky house socks. I saw some cute yarn that would work, but made myself walk away. I came home and found something totally comparable in my stash already. Lol. I have been sort of stressed about my stash lately because I have a lot. But, looking through it today actually made me happy. There are so many yarns that I can't wait to create into awesome finished items. I don't need to buy more yarn to make myself happy. I can just look in my stash!

I'm giggling about finding similar yarn in the stash you already have. I am such an impulse buyer that if I ever got serious (and rich) I would be in big trouble when it came to yarn hoarding. My current project is moving along nicely and I think I have the pattern down. I haven't had to tear any stitches our in a dozen rounds, knock on wood. Work is slow right now and I'm a valuable enough employee that my boss doesn't mind when he comes in and sees that I'm knitting. As long as the work I have is caught up and the things he asks are tended promptly, he lets me get away with a lot. (((good bosses who coddle decent employees)))

pepper it is the perfect cozy sweater for chilly days. Luckily it's not cold enough to wear it yet but the time will come soon (boo to the weather, but yay because I'm excited about wearing my sweaters. I'm torn!) V I knit at work sometimes too! I'm in an all or nothing type of job, so the down times tend to be really slow. But it's perfect to get some knitting done and my boss is similarly great in letting me do what I want. suzieq52083 I love "finding" yarn that I forgot about in my stash. I was going to go to the yarn shop to buy some yarn for socks for my nephews, and then I looked through my stash and found two neutral colors that are perfect. Woo hoo! It's kind of overwhelming, too, because I have so many yarns to go through. I need to just stop buying new yarn for a while and use what I have, but it's so hard to resist new yarn. clcountry how's the baby blanket going?

I am just about done with the bear cowl so started trolling ravelry for my next project. It'll either be a sweater for the kiddo and/or some small christmas decorations. Apparently my team at work exchanges gifts (??), so making some handmade ornaments may be a good go-to for this year. We'll see.
And I totally impulse purchased a bunch from jimmy beans wool today. Oops.

Awesome. Thanks, everyone. And yeah, knitting the current blanket on straights was a big mistake. Oh well--the end is in sight! Another question: I really do want to try my hand at a pair of socks. Does anyone have a good beginner pattern recommendation? I'd prefer to use the magic loop method, but I'm not totally opposed to double pointed needles; I'm sure I'll need to learn to use them eventually. A few of my knitting buddies recommend starting with the worsted weight sock 101 series from very pink knits. This way you can see what you are doing, and end up with a cozy pair of house socks at the end of it.

Hi everyone! Baby blanket is going pretty well. I have about thirty more rows and then I'm done. I've also started another dishcloth for a Christmas gift. This one's a little more complicated, though. It uses a blend of stockinette and garter stitches to create a silhouette of Georgia. If it turns out well, I'll make several for family members. Suzie, I totally get what you mean about stash stress! I went to Hobby Lobby yesterday, and my stepmother let me go a leeeeeeetle crazy! I got six skeins of yarn, two sets of needles, cable stitch holders, stitch savers, and place markers. Oops. Now I have yarn for my next like six projects already bought! Oh well. It makes me happy.

Apparently my team at work exchanges gifts (??), so making some handmade ornaments may be a good go-to for this year. We'll see. I made my first child's sweater this summer and it was so fun! It was awesome how quick it developed into a sweater. And, it was freaking adorable when it was done! I also love the idea of Christmas ornaments. I saw that knitted Christmas ornaments were a thing last year and thought they would be super fun to make. It sounds like a fun buying trip! The needles and notions are always helpful too. I don't know if you already have one, but I keep a small pair of craft scissors in my knitting bag. It comes in handy. So, I have some big news guys!! I have 99% decided that I am going to Vogue Knitting Live in NYC. It is this huge knitting convention. There are TONS of classes, lots of famous knitwear designers, and a huge marketplace of yarn. It is at a hotel right in Times Square in NYC. I am within driving distance of NYC and can easily take the bus up there. I have a friend who is also a knitter. She isn't a super close friend, but I enjoy her company. Anyway, she wanted to go and invited me to go along. We are probably going to share a hotel room. I had heard of this vogue knitting thing, but thought it was mostly the marketplace. I was surprised to see how many really interesting workshops they offered. So, yeah, I am excited!! In more current news, I have 19/32 repeats of the bust of my sweater done. It is really starting to develop and I am super excited. The gauge is super tight and I am loving how warm and snuggly it is going to be!! The yarn I picked is just perfect. Yay!

Vogue Knitting sounds like such fun, Suzie! It's SAFF here next weekend (https://saffsite.org/) and a bunch of my knitting friends are going, but my brother is in town so I can't make the drive up this year.

ashtangi - I basically did pack an extra suitcase for yarn when I went to Ireland/Scotland!! LOL! And, I sent some home too... Lol. I have a problem. A yarn problem. lol. But, I actually think this will be good for me. I have been telling myself that I can't buy anymore yarn until after Christmas. I just randomly made up that deadline. So, this is perfect. I won't buy any yarn until Vogue Knitting. I will be better able to stick to my guns if I am saving up for something special. aulait - that looks like a cool event! we have one of those here in MD, its in the spring. It is called Maryland Sheep and Wool. Apparently, it is one of the better festivals. But, of course, that could be from biased sources. Lol.

So, I did it! I registered for Vogue Knitting!! I decided to go with the package deal and take three courses. It is going to be A LOT of information. But, it will also be tons of fun. I am glad my friend asked me to go.
The rows on my sweater are getting to the really long point. It is taking around 30-45 minutes to do one 2 row repeat. It is going to get longer for a little while and then I can take the sleeves off. I know i'll have to then do the sleeves later... but the body will go a bit faster when I don't have the sleeve stitches.

aulait knitted Christmas ornaments would be awesome! There are a ton of cool Christmas patterns on Ravelry. My mom crocheted us all Christmas stockings and we still use them. They're really special and we've been using them for many, many years (36 for me, but my sister is 43 and her stocking still looks like new)! Suzie I can't wait to hear about the Vogue knitting! I'm playing a bit of yarn chicken with my socks for my nephew. I've been weighing the skein and I should have enough to finish but it's going to be really close. I'm used to knitting for my own super small feet, so knitting a large sock that uses a lot of yarn is new for me!
