Morning.
Yesterday was lazyish. YF wanted to do a walk before her meeting, so I postponed painting. Then when I got home it was still to hot to bother getting out. So MG started shows on the Flix and I sat on my ass all night. I went to bed a little early. Not a bad day, all in all.
I probably have to work some OT this afternoon. Only 4 hours more, so doable. I don't know if that will affect my desire to work on the house when work is done. OTOH, it probably won't affect my (non)desire to finish the house at all.///

Greetings!
Had a smooth drive home yesterday. Damn cicadas are just as loud as ever. One followed me into the house. Ugh.
I'm still working on unpacking all my gear with an eye on my next trip which is in less than 2 weeks. Going to Cincinnati for a conference and tacking on hiking on either side. I also discovered that my Garmin didn't save the last 6 bike rides I did. I have redundancy with my Garmin watch, but it is still incredibly annoying. Spent a bunch of time trying to figure out why and came to the conclusion that I just don't have enough built-in memory. So I snagged a deal on a new GPS from Cabela's this morning since they have Father Day's sales going on. I will have it by the weekend so can test it out before my next trip.
I have a bunch of errands to do today before I return to campus tomorrow. I did clear the backlog of emails from my inbox yesterday afternoon while I was supervising the kitties. They were both napping on opposites of the room. Calm prevailed for nearly 2 hours. Then Allie woke up and decided it would be a good time to launch an attack on Loretta /// I stopped that from happening. Cat brains.
Have a great day!

Good morning from Hays, KS! We made pretty good time yesterday traveling across MO and KS. I waved at V at the Mayberry exit off I-70. Today we have the short drive to Fort Collins, CO. It is going to be hot, but cool off in the evening. We hope to take the dogs to a couple of breweries and get some local flavor. Speaking of local flavor, we went to Defiance Brewing for dinner last night. I got the Nashville Hot chicken sandwich. It was delicious, but I ate way too much! I was miserable! DH and I must share our plates, or I will just get a small plate. I had better get up and get moving. Have a great day!

Howdy!
I might take some time off Monday since it’s Mom’s 84th birthday. But then she never wants to leave the house, so there’s not much point. Maybe I’ll work from home, so I’ll be available should she want to get her nails done or something.
I still don’t know what to get her.
Have a great day!

Greetings!
I eventually got moving and out of the house yesterday once my back settled down. Got a good workout with back exercises & stretching plus a hot shower then tackled my errands. Wrapped up the day hanging out with the kitties. Everyone (Allie!) behaved yesterday. I slept pretty good last night and my back is almost normal feeling today.
Back to campus today. I took care of several emails yesterday so today won't be bad. I'll have a normal week next week then it is off to Ohio for the conference.
Our weather is crazy hot. Looks like storms today. But tomorrow and Saturday should be cooler. I plan to get out for a bike ride on Saturday before the heat returns.
ION I think I'm finally making progress at getting that $50 back from the state's unclaimed property account for my father's old investment account. The investment firm finally acknowledged that I really am who I say I am after I sent in a 1099 from 1998 that had both my name and my dad's name on it. Apparently the investment firm doesn't keep records that far back for closed accounts which is why they were questioning who I was. I did point out the obvious fact that somehow they knew I was on the account since they sent in my name to the state back in 2005! They apologized for the delay and should finish up the paperwork I need today. This isn't project I would have wanted to tackle during a crazy busy semester but right now I do have the time to make the calls, send emails, and dig through the archives in the basement for my $50!
Have a great day!

Morning.
As predicted, I did nothing after work. However, I DID not nap. And I went to bed just a little early (compared to my normal time). And had a filling salad instead of letting MG buy me a calorie-packed something from takeout. So Yay me? I woke up this morning to the alarm like I had just put my head on the pillow.
CSO is getting back from a PTSD camp "Sheepdog" adventure where she and her DH attend or mentor throughout the year. She got to snuggle a highland cow yesterday and sent the cutest picture. YF is headed back to the left coast to visit her inlaws and fam. So it's just me and G this week. And G has been going back home to visit her dad who recently was moved to LTC and is in hospice. So we are currently scattered to the four winds among us. I will need to figure out how to get motivated enough to run and finish the house in the next 96 hours without much girlfriend support. I'm sure that I can at least accomplish something, although the effort will be somehow both herculean and minimal at once.
I did find a great (? I hope!??) Father's Day gift for MG: Arctic Cool shirts that "button" down with magnetic buttons and magic cooling technology. I had gotten a couple of their women's tanks and tees for running and am in love with them. I saw they had a sale for Father's Day and decided that he might like them as well. I did not realize that the button-down shirts were not true buttons until I opened the package. He likes to wear Hawaiian shirts because they are light and not right at his neck. They had a palm print shirt that seemed to fit the bill. When I got it I saw the tag for the magnetic closure. If anyone you know has fine motor skill issues and could have trouble fiddling with buttons, this would be a great option.
After my post work nap, I'll get to the last little bit on the house TODAY. I wrote it, so now I have to do it.

Hi, Got up and out in the coolness this morning to do my grocery run, and made it home w about 10 minutes to spare before the rain started. Phew.
I was going to go yesterday after my Aldi run, but I spent more time there than I intended waiting for them to shelve the special buys stuff I needed, so it was ghastly by the time Mr Wheelie and I walked home.
WI today -1.5. Losing and tracking streak continues. Started my meal planning by listing what this week's options are, will start filling in the days once I find out when Erik and I are having our Meat Eaters dinner. He's making pulled pork. I'll do the sides.
I finally got an appointment later this month to have baseline neuropsychological testing done. I was referred for it over a year ago. Pffffft. That was when I first started noticing some memory, word finding issues, and since there's history I thought it was a good idea to get the baseline. I've felt like it's been progressing this past year, wouldn't it have been nice to be able to have measured that? Not sure why it took so long, but I'm sick of fighting this stuff. I'll see if maybe at my next PCP appt they'll do the bone density test I've been requesting for years. Sorry, that got bloggity.

Good Morning Ladies: Walks in between rains yesterday. Good chance again this evening. Doesn't seem as hot today. I plan to get out and get a pedicure and look at flowers at Lowes. Too many days staying home. I probably need a couple plants in my kitchen window since I have moved so many to the patio.... Tomorrow is red hat meeting at a ritzy sounding clubhouse and I need to find out what I should wear (in red and purple of course).....but just how much bling does one wear to The Grand Oaks? first world problems of the 75 year olds.... Have a wonderful day. You can smell Friday from here!!!

Good morning from Fort Collins, CO!
It got up to 100 degrees on the car thermometer! Luckily, rain blew through and cooled things off to the 80's so we could enjoy our dinner outside with the pups. We went to a couple of breweries and sampled their wares. Delicious! Dinner was at a place downtown that had a great "late night" happy hour, plus a Wednesday special of a smash burger and side for $6.00. We split the burger, got side salads (that were accidently made as large salads), and a side of potato salad. I hope we can find similar places as we continue on our way.
Today we head to Layton, UT. There is not as much there, but Salt Lake City is not that far away.
I had better get up and get dressed. It's going to be another hot one and we have to puzzle piece the stuff in and out of the car every morning.
I hope you all have a great day!

www.chicagotribune.com/2008/12/25/get-off-that-sofa-get-out-and-hike/This article from 2008 is about my father’s hiking group. I stumbled upon it trying to remember how his friend/broker’s last name was spelled. Julius, his broker, is quoted in the article. My father is the club member mentioned in this sentence “ And it was a club member in his 70s with two artificial hips who began leading the 25-mile North Kettle Moraine hike.”

Yaaaaaaay Friday!
My plans for the weekend are to get out and about early tomorrow to find something for Mom’s birthday, then spend the day on continuing ed. I really want a work- and study-free day on Sunday. This weekend’s course is about corporate taxes. Be jealous!
Have a great day!

TGIF!!
The paperwork has been faxed from the brokerage firm to the state for my $50 claim. We will see how long it takes for the state to process it. The much bigger bonus was finding that article that mentioned my father (see previous post). That is just priceless. I would have never come across it if I hadn't been trying to figure out how my dad's broker's last name was spelled. The woman from the firm that I have been dealing with has been there a long time but I'm not sure if her time overlapped with my dad's broker. The internet can be a wonderful thing sometimes.
It will be not as hot tomorrow so I will do a longish bike ride. I have a 100 mile ride the following Saturday. It is one I do every summer as it is so well run and way out in lovely countryside. Sunday will be spent catching up on paperwork and other errands.
Have a great day!

Good morning from Layton, UT! Yesterday was, by far, the most beautiful drive of the trip. We spent most of the day in Wyoming. It seemed the landscape changed at every turn. It was still too hot to be doing much, but it cooled off nicely by the time we ate dinner in Ogden. We found the Ogden Brewing Company. The beer was ok, but the food was really good. We have enough leftovers until Portland. We both got sandwiches--Cubano for me, Philly Cheesesteak for DH. We ate the side salad and part of the Brussel's sprouts with blueberry habanero drizzle, as well as part of the "Jack Mormon Funeral Potatoes" we got as an app. I would definitely eat there again. Today we travel to Boise. We are going to go around The Great Salt Lake, since we have never seen it. I looked at going to the Bonneville Salt Flats, Cyn, but that was going to add two hours of driving and we need a short-ish day to recharge. I think if I ever do this trip again, I will make the first two days longer and then stop for two days to recharge. This daily 7-8 or more hours on the road is wearing. Time to get moving again! Have a great day!

Hello weekend!
I decided to drive about 1 hour west to the farmland to get away from cicadas and have less vehicular traffic. I'm running late as I've been going down the rabbit hole on why the map updates for my new GPS won't download.
Have a great day!

Howdy!
I need to get off my butt and not spend an hour scrolling through cat videos this morning. I really want to get my errands done before the hot, humid, boiling heat kicks in.
I have a wood carving kit coming from Amazon today. Hopefully getting to play with that will be my incentive for finishing my continuing ed. I just need to finish today’s tax class and then the regular required (boring) Ethics class and I’ll be done for the year. Today’s goal is finishing the tax class.
Enjoy your day!

gadgetgirlil you should have come to visit me-still no cicadas here! We could have done the ponds circuit, then walked the lakefront path. Too bad the weather's turning shitty after today.

Good Morning Ladies: The lunch yesterday was a nice day out as always seem to make a few extra stops. This am I had a nice long walk with the babies, took Zack out to Denny's for breakfast (when did they get so expensive) and then dropped him home. Today I need to do "things".

Good morning from Meridian/Boise, Idaho!
We get to see our kids today!!!!!
We drove across Idaho yesterday--a nice easy day. We did stop for a break in Twin Falls and ate our lunch on the Snake River. It was quite the view!
I cannot wait to sleep in the same bed for a few nights. I am also ready to not live out of a suitcase for a few days--I will put my clothes in drawers like a narmal person.
Dinner tonight is at DS2's restaurant!!!! I need to look at the menu and see what I want. If I let DS2 pick, I will have enough food for all of us here to eat.
After days and days of unbearable heat, it is going to be jeans weather today! I love it, since I really cannot like this hot. It will be better for the car, too.
I am going to finish my coffee and then get ready to go.
Have a great day!

Greetings!
I'm so glad that I drove west yesterday to do my bike ride! I only heard a random cicada or two in a park in downtown Oregon and then in a tiny town called Grand Detour, home of a John Deere Historic Site. Otherwise it was just the normal summer sounds of birds, insects and lawn mowers. Yes, everyone seemed to be out mowing yesterday likely because it will be too damn hot to do much outside for the foreseeable future.
I have pictures posted on FB. I've never see the pelicans before in Oregon on the Rock River. I've seen them further north in Fond du Lac, WI, so that was a treat. Glad I brought my real camera along as it does a much better job with zooming in than my iPhone. I had parked at the Nachusa Grasslands so after I finished my ride, I did the short 1/2 mile path through the prairie by the visitor center. Learned a few new plant names and also saw the bison! That is always a treat. This is a place that I hope to volunteer at after I retire.
My new technology behaved. Still need to resolve the map updates but the 4-year old maps were fine for what I was doing yesterday. I'll mess around more with the maps today but will try using my PC instead of my Mac to see if I can get the updates to install. But first I need to get out into the garage and clean my bike before it feels like an oven out there. Have I mentioned how much I hate the heat?
Have a great day!
