What’s on your mind — how to make kugel? This week’s Torah reading? Life goals? Prayer? We are all engaged in weight loss/weight maintenance journeys and we are all Jewish or at least interested in Judaism. We like to eat, we like to discuss. It is our goal here to provide each other support on our journeys, to share experiences, to call on our rich cultural heritage and texts, and to help each other grow spiritually.
Some of us take weekly turns starting the thread:

And for those of you that stop by to read this thread without posting — you are welcome to, but you are also welcome to chime in. Don’t be shy!

Good morning everybody. Hope you are all well and SAFE!
Today's topic: Wanting or coveting?
Is there some object that you really, really want? Is there anything holding you back from getting it? Does it belong to someone else? Did you learn about it from advertising or maybe see it at someone's house? Do you feel that you covet it, and if so, how do you feel about the word "covet" to describe your feelings?
For me, an object that I really, really want is a walk-in shower. I haven't gotten one because of cost. I've never seen one at anyone's house, but have seen a lot of commercials portraying them. I don't think that I covet it, as it doesn't belong to anyone else, and the word makes me uncomfortable. As we discussed yesterday, coveting feels like something I shouldn't be doing.
A walk-in shower would be extremely helpful for me, with my physical problems. I could really use it!!
How about you?
Have a peaceful day, Lee

I have some "I'd Like"s but I'm not sure any fit the category of "really really want." I'd like to replace the walk-in shower in my bathroom, but even when I did have the income and opportunity I didn't. It's just a lot older now and I'd like it replaced even more than I did when we first bought this house. (While on the subject of "I'd like," I certainly wouldn't mind if DH stopped having periods of being really crotchety, but that change has nothing to do with me...)
I'll give this whole topic more thought and BBL.

There are some things I want (not covet), but they are not physical. In all fairness, DH and I are fortunate, in a monetary sense. I can absolutely understand wanting a walk-in shower , if I didn’t have one. For me, at this point in my life, it’s more of a question of : Do I REALLY want it, and if I got it, would I REALLY use/enjoy/have space for it ? (Can I tell you how many dollars I’ve saved by asking those questions?)
Now, there are tons of non-physical things I want, but that’s a whole different question!

I guess right now I would like an air conditioner in my bedroom. There is a tree pretty much right up to the window so I have not puzzled out how to do it. I get by okay with the AC in the next room. I've been wanting to buy a new car for a few years but then the pricing and vailability went so crazy I figure I would wait. There isn't anything I really need/wnt to have (to be thin isn't on today's topoic).
I seem to have slept through yesterday - sorry about that!

I can't think of anything I really, really want right now, except maybe a good rainstorm, which is practically impossible in Los Angeles in July. But what the heck, today is Harry Potter's birthday, so maybe some magic could happen!!
