Good morning! Where did July go? It seems like the whole summer has gone by in a blur.
I have several things I want to get marked off my to do list today. Washing sheets and towels is one, but I also have several phone calls I need to make. Nothing earth shaking, but just minutiae that needs to be taken care of. For one thing I want to talk to the Housing Authority and find out more about Sec 8 housing where the government helps pay the rent. We have not wanted to do that with our rentals, but we have one little disabled lady that has been with us several years now. She's very sweet, and we have really been pretty much just carrying her and not raising her rent as we know she can't pay a penny more. Her family has to chip in on her rent now. When she first began renting with us she was working and could afford it, but then she became disabled and no longer able to work. We have maintained her rent the same all these years even though rents in the area have been continually rising. Insurance, taxes, and maintenance repairs costs have also been rising so we really need to try and bring the rent more in alignment, but we know this lady can't pay and is very unlikely to find something else she could afford. I know that financially she could qualify for the government program, but I am not sure what being a part of it would mean for us as the landlord. So I am trying to learn more about that. We both want to be able to continue to help this lady for as long as we can, but it's becoming more and more difficult each year.
