What’s on your mind — how to make kugel? This week’s Torah reading? Life goals? Prayer? We are all engaged in weight loss/weight maintenance journeys and we are all Jewish or at least interested in Judaism. We like to eat, we like to discuss. It is our goal here to provide each other support on our journeys, to share experiences, to call on our rich cultural heritage and texts, and to help each other grow spiritually.
Some of us take weekly turns starting the thread:

And for those of you who stop by to read this thread without posting — you are welcome to, but you are also welcome to chime in. Don’t be shy!

Hi again everybody. Hope you are all well and SAFE! Note: This thread is for Friday, 9/8, as I'll be out at a doctor's appointment.
Friday's topic: What is a class or job you wish you'd taken, or maybe even a life path?
For me, I wish I'd taken more philosophy, art, and film classes in college, instead of being worried about future job prospects. These areas, in the classes I did take, taught me a great deal about how I wanted to live my life. I feel that my creativity had wings to spread in these classes, and I was always happy in them.
As for jobs, maybe I could have gone into a field where I could have been more creative. I would have liked that.
I hope everyone has enjoyed this week, especially the focus on work/school. I did!
Have a peaceful day, Lee

Good morning everyone, and thank you for an enjoyable week, Lee!
I wish I'd taken more psychology and sociology classes, and more advanced Hebrew. More languages too, like Chinese, Portuguese, Russian, Japanese...Not too late, I know. I always like to be learning new things.
I'm reading four (yes, four, God help me) aliyot tomorrow, but I've done them before and have been practicing like a madwoman all week. I feel confident and comfortable with them. Wish me luck!
Everyone have a wonderful weekend! Shabbat shalom!

My first love was journalism. I wanted to be a writer of non-fiction investigative pieces. I wish I had been in a position to do that for a loving, but it didn’t work out. I went in a different direction, and somehow, it all worked out just fine!

I love what I do and wouldn't want to change it but Ido wish I had been a better student.

I obviously didn't make it back here on Friday; and here it is Saturday morning and already Shabbat... Since the start of the pandemic, I've been using my computer on Shabbat, originally out of necessity (services were on Zoom exclusively), but the habit sort of stayed... Not apologizing for it; just explaining.
When I first graduated from college, we moved about a million miles (okay, exaggeration, but for a point) away. There were basically two jobs in town that I was qualified for and had any interest whatsoever in doing. One was teaching math in (I think) what is now called middle school (although it may have been 5th grade). It was a 10-month job with no promise of future employment (part of President Kennedy's "Poverty Program") and I wanted security, and certainly was interested in job security. So I went in the other direction; that turned out to become my career for the next approximately 10 years.
Now that I've been a (very part-time) religious school teacher for about 30 years, and returned to grad school about 12 years ago to earn my certificate to be a middle-school/high school English teacher, I have often wondered how my life might have been different had I taken that first option, teaching math (instead of language) back when I was 21... I could have had a career in education, although maybe across several disciplines, and maybe gone into school administration, and perhaps would have been able to retire with a real pension instead of being where I am today.
