What’s on your mind — how to make kugel? This week’s Torah reading? Life goals? Prayer? We are all engaged in weight loss/weight maintenance journeys and we are all Jewish or at least interested in Judaism. We like to eat, we like to discuss. It is our goal here to provide each other support on our journeys, to share experiences, to call on our rich cultural heritage and texts, and to help each other grow spiritually.
Some of us take weekly turns starting the thread:

And for those of you that stop by to read this thread without posting — you are welcome to, but you are also welcome to chime in. Don’t be shy!

Sukkot is z'man simchateinu, the time (or the "season") of our joy. And the Torah always equates joy with having everyone in the community come together. “You shall rejoice on your festival along with your son and daughter, your servants, the Levite, the stranger, orphan and widow” (Devarim/Deuteronomy 16:14).
What are some of your memories of recent and/or not-so-recent Sukkot holidays? Regardless of whether you build your own sukkah (or help in building a more "community" one), do you make it your practice to visit one? Do you say the blessing for "dwelling" (which, we're taught, means at least "sitting down" in one)? Do you share food specifically for this harvest festival? Tell us what you're comfortable telling us.

Good morning everybody. Hope you are all well and SAFE!
Re today's topic: As I think I mentioned, to celebrate the holiday in our own way, DS and I will be going to a fall festival at our local garden center. Also, DS has started collecting pretty leaves. Not many have fallen yet, but then it is only October 1st.
Have a peaceful day, Lee

We never had a sukkah and neither did my neighbors growing up. My sukkot traditions are with my synagogue community. I always have some kiddushes and at least one dinner in the sukkah. I have on occassion particiated in a synagogue "sukkah hop" where different congregants act as hosts, but not in a while. Tomorrow I'm goi ng to have lunch at the hoe of the woman who was my travelmate for our Israel trip. I had bought her a sukkah ornament when I was in Turkey (several of those blue glass eyes strung together). Going with a few others from the trip - a mini reunion. A warning light came on in my car yesterday. I went to my mechanic right after synagogoue - lucky thing because it turns out I need a new alternator and the car could have just stopped at any time. I was planning to drive out to the luncheon tomorrow with one of the other women - again, lucky for us it didn't happen on the road away from home! One of the other couples is going to drive us. Looking forward to it.

One of the others who helps chant the haftarah on the first day of Sukkot hosts a group of about 12 people at her house after the service. They have a lovely large sukkah, and she does a beautiful job decorating it. We were there yesterday, and it was delightful, as always.
DH considers Sukkot the beginning of fall, and for him that means looking for pumpkin ice cream, apple-flavored things, etc. He bought some pumpkin fritters, and when I calculated the points, I decided to have some popcorn and a sugar-free pudding cup instead!
