What’s on your mind — how to make kugel? This week’s Torah reading? Life goals? Prayer? We are all engaged in weight loss/weight maintenance journeys and we are all Jewish or at least interested in Judaism. We like to eat, we like to discuss. It is our goal here to provide each other support on our journeys, to share experiences, to call on our rich cultural heritage and texts, and to help each other grow spiritually.
Some of us take weekly turns starting the thread:
Frieda (hopefully)?

Good morning everybody. Hope you are all well and SAFE! Please pray for Israel.
Today's topic: How do you get your news?
Yesterday's coverage --- and non-coverage --- of the demonstration made me wonder about how our group gets its news. Do you watch TV news? Do you have other sources of finding things out? What do you think is the most reliable?
For me, I have two main sources of news: the Washington Post (we still get it delivered, and it gets to our house around 6AM) and MSN.com (my go-to source online). I watch TV news only when there is something that is breaking news, or to see the weather sometimes.
The Washington Post is an excellent paper. I like their outlook most of the time about how they see the world. I especially like the editorials and letters to the editor, but always read at least part of the news articles.
I also like MSN.com. I consult it many times a day on the computer, as they have links to dozens of other sources.
For other news, I read the political thread on the main board, which I usually agree with. I talk with DH and DS about what's going on in the world, too, and thrive on our conversations.
How about you?
Have a peaceful day, Lee

I’m a news junkie. I read The NY Times, Wall St Journal, Apple News on the computer, CNN online, and our local news online. I used to watch news on TV, it found it was overwhelming and often histrionic (because they have to fill 24 hours).
Reading about everyone’s experiences yesterday was very inspiring!

NYT is my home page on the computer so I look there to see what's going on. I often have msnbc on the TV at least in the background. I also listen to WNYC/NPR a lot. I am defiitely not as well informed as I should be but I try.

We had a zoom monthly tea and conversation with our rabbi today and of course the topic was antisemitism and the rally yesterday. Funny how ALL the MSM discussed the "thousands" of folks at the rally. If it was mentioned at all, usually in passing. NO ONE has mentioned the hostages in weeks LOTS of coverage about Israel's "destruction" of Gaza (obtained via Hamas) Coverage galore on Free Gaza and Pro Palestinian protests. We must do better getting our messages out and making sure the world sees it.

1. Times of Israel (online) 2. the Guardian (online; there's also a US-based one, not only the UK one) 3. The Economist (yes! and also online. You'd be surprised by their coverage of news, including since Oct. 7) 4. Once in a while, 972 Magazine (online; if you look it up, please be prepared. It's more left-of-center than the previous three I mentioned) 5. NPR radio (although I keep hearing about the "Palestinian militants" instead of the "terrorist organization Hamas" and it drives me nuts!) 6. NY Times (although their take on Israel isn't as good as I'd like)
