What’s on your mind — how to make kugel? This week’s Torah reading? Life goals? Prayer? We are all engaged in weight loss/weight maintenance journeys and we are all Jewish or at least interested in Judaism. We like to eat, we like to discuss. It is our goal here to provide each other support on our journeys, to share experiences, to call on our rich cultural heritage and texts, and to help each other grow spiritually.
Some of us take weekly turns starting the thread:
Frieda (hopefully)? Holly Lee Louise Lynne Peachy
And for those of you that stop by to read this thread without posting — you are welcome to, but you are also welcome to chime in. Don’t be shy!

Good morning everybody. Hope you are all well and SAFE! Please pray for Israel.
Today's topic: What thoughts do you have for the future? Feel free to write about yourself and/or your WLJ, Israel, the Jews in general (here or around the world), or whatever you feel the need to comment about.
For me, about myself: I am cautiously feeling optimistic about my WLJ. I have been doing well on the Ozempic, and hope that BC/BS will pre-approve me for the future. My health is not so great, but I commit myself to feeling positive and acting so, as much as possible.
Re Israel: I am worried, but will keep talking about the good things, keeping in touch with my legislators, and sending good energy.
Re Jews in general: We are dealing with more anti-semitism around the world and even in the USA, and it frightens me. Nonetheless, I will try and stay positive.
And other comments: This has been quite a week! I appreciate everyone's comments here in the thread. Thank you!!
Have a peaceful day, Lee

I responded to yesterday's thread early this morning. Beryl saw it and responded to me (Thank you, Beryl!) Here's a copy of what I wrote about news outlets I (more or less) trust. 1. Times of Israel (online) 2. the Guardian (online; there's also a US-based one, not only the UK one) 3. The Economist (yes! and also online. You'd be surprised by their coverage of news, including since Oct. 7) 4. Once in a while, 972 Magazine (online; if you look it up, please be prepared. It's more left-of-center than the previous three I mentioned) 5. NPR radio (although I keep hearing about the "Palestinian militants" instead of the "terrorist organization Hamas" and it drives me nuts!) 6. NY Times (although their take on Israel isn't as good as I'd like)
For today's:
I'm feeling good about my weight and health.
Israel: I'm feeling very mixed. Oct. 7 made me realize how much I support Israel, and it was considerably more than I'd known as recently as Oct.6. I surround myself with Jewish stuff and feel both secure and upset by what's going on not only in the Middle East but also what's going on right here in the US on college campuses. I joined a FB group of Mothers Against College Antisemitism (mostly because of its name) but the reality is I don't go on FB much at all.
Jewish in general: see what I wrote in the "Israel" paragraph. I continue to attend webinars about Jewish topics and I enroll in lots of classes through Jewish sites. I'm doing a series now (through Pardes, located in Israel) about Torah for our times, although that isn't its name. We meet online Mondays and Thursdays at 10am Pacific and it's a new instructor for each session. Mostly the instructor talks about the portion of the week and relates it to current life. Yesterday's was more general. And I continue with Talmud study, attending a weekly review online, and a twice a month study of something in TaNaKh. We're currently doing Psalms, spending an hour covering about two psalms per session; the instructor has done extensive research to put together a one-hour lesson!
Gut shabbes / Shabbat shalom, all. Thanks, Lee, for directing my focus this week.

I again texted, and will continue to do so every single day, Israel to 24722 to send my demands that our government demand the hostages be released now. Our city council last night passed a resolution demanding a cease fire. I asked on FB and on their page if they also demanded the hostages be released. They did not, of course.

Lee, thank you for a thought-provoking week.
Our local congressman had one of his regular town hall conference calls last night, and it helped me immensely to hear him speaking up for Israel and tackling the questions some folks were asking. He also talked about other matters, but that one was most important to me. I am definitely going to services tomorrow - it's comforting to be with the congregation and pray together, sing together and support each other.
Today is my WI day, and i gained two-tenths of a pound this week, but I'm not fussed about it, because I gave in to having a truly delicious hamburger and french fries last night. I did get right to go to the gym at 5 a.m., so I've already started the week off right.
I've been super-busy at work this week, and my next paycheck will have some nice overtime on it. I'm very much looking forward to being with all my kids and their SOs for Thanksgiving next week.
Everyone have a great weekend. Shabbat shalom!

Very caught up in pushing through the now.Today I had stained glass, then the dentist, then went with a friend to sticker our sddurim with the Acheinu (prayer for captives and people in distress). Need to figue out the rest of my cooking schedule for Thanksgiving. Shabbat shalom.
