What’s on your mind — how to make kugel? This week’s Torah reading? Life goals? Prayer? We are all engaged in weight loss/weight maintenance journeys and we are all Jewish or at least interested in Judaism. We like to eat, we like to discuss. It is our goal here to provide each other support on our journeys, to share experiences, to call on our rich cultural heritage and texts, and to help each other grow spiritually.
Some of us take weekly turns starting the thread:
Frieda (hopefully)? Holly Lee Louise Lynne Peachy
And for those of you that stop by to read this thread without posting — you are welcome to, but you are also welcome to chime in. Don’t be shy!

Hi everyone, Louise and I are switching weeks. She will lead next week.
I expect we are all getting ready for thanksgiving in our own ways. What are your plans this year? Anything different, or are you adhering to your usual plans?
I will BBL to post more ….

Good morning and shavua tov! We're flying to Colorado for Thanksgiving with DD35 and her wife. Our sons (and our one son's fiancee) are going too, so we'll all be together. DH and I booked a hotel room just for us, but everyone else is staying at DD35 and DDIL's house. We're flying home Friday morning, in time for our bff's birthday Shabbat dinner that night.
I am very much looking forward to this trip. Last week was very busy and stressful at work, and I could use a diversion. It'll be great to have all the kids together; the next time won't be until our son's wedding in February.

We'll leave here Thursday morning to drive to my DN's. We'll stay at DS's for the weekend, but I think we're leaving Saturday to be here all day Sunday to take care of whichever students I can't see by Wednesday before we go.
I'm probably bringing a cranberry relish and nothing else unless DN has a specific request of me (she rarely does).
DH is checking with his daughter and his nephew (both of whom live near enough to my DS and DN) to see his side of the family either Friday or Saturday after leaving DN's famous Thanksbrunching. Friday is both my step-daughter's older son's birthday and my own youngest DGS's (he's in Oregon either at school in Eugene or at home for Thanksgiving farther south). I'll call him Friday. (He'll be 21!!!!! I can't believe it! and he's the youngest of my DGC! Yes, I married at 18 and DS started having kids when he was 18...)

Good morning everybody. Hope you are all well and SAFE! Please pray for Israel.
The sign at our JCC was vandalized. I didn't expect something like that in my area, but it happened.
Re today's topic: Despite all the negativity, there's still a lot to celebrate. My family will be cooking, eating, and talking about gratitude for Thanksgiving. It'll just be the three of us; DH, DS and me. Today, DS and I will be baking cornbread for stuffing, as it needs a few days to dry out.
We'll be doing our usual feast: turkey, vegetables, potatoes, and our family favorite of spanakopita. We've been making that for over 20 years, just because we love it. Dessert will be pecan pie and lemon chess pie (DH is making the pie crusts tomorrow night, and DS and I will be baking the pies on Tuesday).
I'm not worried about my weight. It's consistently been going down, and my portions have been getting smaller. If I go a little wild for the holiday, so be it.
It's nice to know that we won't have to cook for a week or more after the Thanksgiving preparations!!
Have a peaceful day, Lee

Doing our usual. My nephew will be hosting in their home in Binghamton. It looks like there my be some snow but nothing big. My brother and SIL will drive down from Rochester and some other aunts are coming as well. We are a good group and hopefully my SIL will behave. I bring a lot of food items, but so do we all. We don't deviate much from year to year. I do get to make something different each for my brother's birthday cake - althoug hmy new apple cake was voted down. I am going to make my Chocolate Oblivion Truffle Torte this year. I haven't made it in a long time. Only 3 ingredients: chocolate, butter, eggs! I also make whipped cream and raspberry sauce to go with it. It's a killer but so is the whole meal, so why not?! I already have cranberry breads and banana cakes in the freezer. Still need to make the torte, noodle kugels, and mashed cauliflower.
I have not been doing well with food and I seriously doubt I will be able to turn this around for Thanksgiving - well, my goal is to just eat defined meals and snacks from now until Thanksgiving. I know I should post my food, so will restart that tomorrow.

Back again. DS and I baked our two loaves of cornbread for the turkey stuffing, and they are sitting on racks. I wish I could have some now, but they need to be saved for Thanksgiving. I think it's fun to hear about what everyone is doing for the holiday. And Chanukah is coming up soon too!! louise, Your chocolate torte sounds really good. Everybody have a good rest of the day, Lee

Louise, anything that starts with Chocolate Oblivion is something I need to know more about... Recipe please? And while you're at it (you can do all of this after Thanksgiving, BTW), how about your recipes for whatever kugels you love?
