What’s on your mind — how to make kugel? This week’s Torah reading? Life goals? Prayer? We are all engaged in weight loss/weight maintenance journeys and we are all Jewish or at least interested in Judaism. We like to eat, we like to discuss. It is our goal here to provide each other support on our journeys, to share experiences, to call on our rich cultural heritage and texts, and to help each other grow spiritually.
Some of us take weekly turns starting the thread:
Frieda (hopefully)? Holly Lee Louise Lynne Peachy
And for those of you that stop by to read this thread without posting — you are welcome to, but you are also welcome to chime in. Don’t be shy!

Hi everyone, Staying with the subject of thanksgiving…. I loved hearing yesterday about people in your lives for whom you were grateful. Today: talk about something in your hometown for which you are thankful.
There are many who’d find it hard to be thankful they live in NOLA. Although it is a blue dot, it is in a sea of red. Our state leaders are generally dreadful. NOLA is hurricane prone, ungodly hot in the summer, and under constant effects of coastal erosion. But despite all of that, most people (including me) are thankful to live here. The place is alive with music, spirit, and character. Every corner diner is amazing. The population is diverse. People are generally kind and fun-loving. I’m thankful.
What do you find about your city that is worthy of your gratitude?

Hometown... I think you mean where I live now, although to be completely honest, when I first read today's message, I immediately thought about New York. Let me just say that I was born and raised in New York (in the borough of Queens, which is sort of suburban but legally is included in the City of New York). When I was growing up (all through college, that is), I "knew" that New York was the center of the world. Anything important that happened anywhere in the world also happened in New York, whether a fashion show in Paris (the fashions came to New York immediately), a show in London (which then came to Broadway), anything at all. I couldn't think of a better place to live! Growing up, I hung out at the Museum of Natural History and the Metropolitan Museum of Art as if they were located down the street from my house instead of a bus and subway ride away. I truly loved living there.
As for living in San Diego County, I've been here almost as long as I've lived everywhere else. That is, I've been here since August of 1989, which is more than 34 years ago, and I'm not all that much older than 68 (okay, a number of years more, but ...). Although I complain about the weather (since climate change), the bottom line is I'd rather live in this climate than anywhere else on earth. I'd consider Santa Barbara (which is north of Los Angeles County) and the French Riviera (where the climate is very similar to that of southern California's).
Maybe more tomorrow. I gotta return downstairs to finish the dishes before going to bed. G'night for now.

Good morning! We're in Denver and it's sunny, clear and chilly. Last night at dinner, DD35 gave me a Snoopy scarf. Very cute!
About home though, I'm grateful for the availability of darn near everything, from food and prescriptions to health care and education. Even more important, though, is the cultural diversity here, whichever is wonderful.
Going over to the girls' house now, BBL!

Good afternoon everybody. Hope you are all well and SAFE! Please pray for Israel.
Sorry I missed posting yesterday; I had a very difficult day trying to get DH's meds.
Re today's topic: I also thought of NY when I thought of my hometown, but haven't lived there since I was 17, so I will comment on Northern Virginia (NOVA). I am grateful that it is a liberal area, and generally safe. I am grateful that it has lots of little forests with deer, foxes, etc., that I get to look at. I am grateful that we have people here from around the world, so we have amazing restaurants. I am grateful that the weather is generally good; not too much snow, warm enough for flowers most of the year, and very infrequent severe weather events. I am grateful that there are so many nice people here! And that the medical care is generally top-notch!!
There are lots of things I like about living here. I'm glad we moved here after living overseas for three years, and that now it's been almost 25 years!!
Have a peaceful rest of the day, Lee

I love being so close to Manhattan and all that has to offer. I am glad I am up on the palisade so not in the flood zone. I love seeing the skyline when I walk outside. My neighbors are friendly. I feel safe when I walk in the street. Wonderful food is readily available (kosher meat is a little harder to find, but still available). We have not suffered any climate extremes here - I hope that continues! We have enough water. All in all, I am very blessed.
I just put a dozen pumpkin donut in the over - a surprise for tomorrow might's dinner. Once they come out I have to face the torte.
