What’s on your mind — how to make kugel? This week’s Torah reading? Life goals? Prayer? We are all engaged in weight loss/weight maintenance journeys and we are all Jewish or at least interested in Judaism. We like to eat, we like to discuss. It is our goal here to provide each other support on our journeys, to share experiences, to call on our rich cultural heritage and texts, and to help each other grow spiritually.
Some of us take weekly turns starting the thread:
Frieda (hopefully)? Holly Lee Louise Lynne Peachy
And for those of you that stop by to read this thread without posting — you are welcome to, but you are also welcome to chime in. Don’t be shy!

Good morning! I read an article recently about boredom in your sixties and beyond. I’ve seen a lot of articles about trying new things in order to keep your brain pathways challenged, but I haven’t considered the notion of boredom. Do you get bored easily? I don’t. It’s rare that I stop and think, “Hey, I don’t have anything to do right now, I’m bored!” How about you? Do any of these quotes resonate with you? • “It's better to be absolutely ridiculous than absolutely boring.” – Marilyn Monroe • “Is life not a thousand times too short for us to bore ourselves? “ – Friedrich Nietzsche • “Boredom is the root of all evil - the despairing refusal to be oneself.” – Soren Kierkegaard • “The cure for boredom is curiosity.” — Dorothy Parker • “I would rather die of passion than of boredom.” — Vincent Van Gogh • "I don't know where I'm going from here, but I promise it won't be boring." – David Bowie • “There is something more terrible than a hell of suffering – a hell of boredom.” – Victor Hugo • “Are you bored with life? Then throw yourself into some work you believe in with all your heart, live for it, die for it, and you will find happiness that you had thought could never be yours.” – Dale Carnegie

Hi everyone, I’m back from London . It was a wonderful vacation, the opposite of boring! Wow, I had a blast, and I’m happy to be home. I especially love the quote from Kierkegaard. Never heard that one but it is oh so true. I actually do get bored easily. I’m one of those people who can’t binge- watch a series because I get bored halfway through. If I find myself with a day with nothing to do, I start getting annoyed and depressed. It has been a challenge for me, during retirement, to keep myself engaged in enough new things to avoid boredom (but not get sucked into overdoing it.)

The Victor Hugo quote reminded me of something I saw on TV once, so long ago I don't even remember when. It was on one of those fantasy shows like The Twilight Zone. John Astin was dressed like a hippy: long hair, colorful clothing with "busy" prints, a bandana around either his head or his neck, the whole nine yards. He spoke in the "dialect" of the 60s (every other word out of his mouth was "man" or "groovy" or one of the other words or phrases of the period). He was sitting in a waiting room with other people, all of whom were staid, dressed "normally," sitting quietly; he was the only one really talking. This went on for a long time. Eventually it occurs to him that he's dead. And this is hell!
I loved it!

Good morning everybody. Hope you are all well and SAFE! Please pray for Israel.
I just spent over an hour getting tarnish off my brass menorah!! It's 90% shiny, but has some black spots where there were wax drippings (I scraped the wax off). I used Bar Keeper's Friend powder, mixed with water and applied gently with a toothbrush, wiping it up with wet paper towels. It looks almost as nice as when my mom got it for me. It occurs to me to think of the black spots as "age spots" received over use and time (!!). At any rate, I'm happy with it. IF anyone has any suggestions about getting rid of the black spots, please let me know. Thanks!
Re today's topic: I liked the quotes. I don't usually get bored as I always have something I could do. When I do feel bored, I take a nap (!) or find something to do.
Have a peaceful day, Lee

I like to have a project goi ng - like crocheting - to fill in the spaces and I usually have a book goi ng too. I do try to keep busy unless it has something to do with cleaning and then somehow I find somethng else. Oh well. Still haven't taken out my hanukkah stuff, will do it in the morning. Tired now.
