What’s on your mind — how to make kugel? This week’s Torah reading? Life goals? Prayer? We are all engaged in weight loss/weight maintenance journeys and we are all Jewish or at least interested in Judaism. We like to eat, we like to discuss. It is our goal here to provide each other support on our journeys, to share experiences, to call on our rich cultural heritage and texts, and to help each other grow spiritually.
Some of us take weekly turns starting the thread:
Frieda (hopefully)?

And for those of you that stop by to read this thread without posting — you are welcome to, but you are also welcome to chime in. Don’t be shy!

Good morning everybody. Hope you are all well and SAFE! Please pray for Israel.
Today's topic: Spontaneity. Do you consider yourself a spontaneous person? What's something you've recently done that was spur of the moment and/or not worked out in detail ahead of time?
For me, it was choosing tiles for a new backsplash for our new stove. I did look at several pages of possibilities, but picked the ones I did just because I liked them. DH and DS like them too, which is a big plus. To make things even better, they may arrive today instead of in a week or two! We are all excited about that.
Am I a spontaneous person? I have to say, not really. Because of my knees and health in general, I need to plan things out pretty carefully, especially going anywhere. I am fairly spontaneous about doing things with DS, like picking out a game to play or a movie to watch. We often do either just because we have the time and enjoy spending it with each other. He is a blessing.
As for DH, some of our cooking and prep are spontaneous, while some are planned. I have certain tasks that I do because I can do them sitting down, and/or because I am good at them (i.e., peeling garlic, stripping herbs, lining pie pans, etc.). We have a good time when we all cook together. I really appreciate how he has taken over so many tasks around the house, now that I either can't do them or would have a lot of difficulty.
I hope everybody enjoyed this week's topics; I know I did. Have a peaceful day, Lee

I don't think of myself as especially spontaneous but I did recently catch an ad for a concert and decide to go - things like that. Certainly ordering a necklace on the spot with the money I got from selling some of my mother's jewelry was spontaneous and in fact still surprises me (going to pick it up today). I know my upcoming trip to Israel is not exactly spontaneous - I did labor over it - but considering the size of the undertaking and how decisions of that size would normally take me months, it was pretty close!

Thank you for an interesting week, Lee, I've enjoyed it.
I don't think I'm all that spontaneous by nature - I do like the comfort and security of planning. But I also like to be flexible, and if something comes up, I try to consider the possibilities even if I'd rather have time to plan it out. I think I learned this from my children; when they were growing up, they had all kinds of spontaneous thoughts and ideas, and it was interesting and fascinating to go with them.
I'm off today, so I didn't go to the gym at 5 a.m. as usual. DH wanted to go too, so we went at 9-ish instead. It's always more fun to go with someone, even though we go in different directions once we get there. Now it's getting to be lunchtime, and I'm not sure what we're having, so maybe we'll do something spontaneous!
Everyone have a great weekend, stay dry and warm. Shabbat shalom!
