What’s on your mind — how to make kugel? This week’s Torah reading? Life goals? Prayer? We are all engaged in weight loss/weight maintenance journeys and we are all Jewish or at least interested in Judaism. We like to eat, we like to discuss. It is our goal here to provide each other support on our journeys, to share experiences, to call on our rich cultural heritage and texts, and to help each other grow spiritually.
Some of us take weekly turns starting the thread:
Frieda (hopefully)? Holly Lee Louise Lynne Peachy
And for those of you who stop by to read this thread without posting — you are welcome to, but you are also welcome to chime in. Don’t be shy!

Good morning everybody. Hope you are all well and SAFE! Please pray for Israel.
Today's topic: What helps you feel more spiritual/religious/closer to God?
For me, it's a combination of the various things we've been discussing this week. I try to be a good person and to treat others well. I don't always succeed but I do make an effort.
When I contemplate the good things in life and muse about how they happen, I feel more connected with God. I have gotten away from contributing to the main thread's gratitude list, but plan to get back to it. The more grateful I feel, the more things I can find that make me even more grateful. It's a wonderful circle/cycle. I don't consider myself a particularly spiritual person, but I try to appreciate and observe what I can.
As for feeling religious, being Jewish is very important to me although I don't keep kosher or pay much attention to many holidays. I try to speak up for Jewish issues whenever I can.
I hope this has been a valuable week for everyone; I feel like I learned a lot by needing to think and write about the topics.
Have a peaceful day, Lee

Good morning, happy Friday, and thank you, Lee for an interesting week.
I think I feel closest to God in times of trouble. When I've exhausted all other help and (perceived) possibilities, and I just can't think of what to do or where to turn, God is still there to give me strength and remind me that I am lovable and capable. I also feel close to God when I'm with my community. Feeling like I belong somewhere reminds me that I have a purpose and that life has meaning.
I had a great weigh-in today - I'm down 2.1 pounds. Hoping to keep it up! Everyone have a great weekend! Shabbat shalom!
