What’s on your mind — how to make kugel? This week’s Torah reading? Life goals? Prayer? We are all engaged in weight loss/weight maintenance journeys and we are all Jewish or at least interested in Judaism. We like to eat, we like to discuss. It is our goal here to provide each other support on our journeys, to share experiences, to call on our rich cultural heritage and texts, and to help each other grow spiritually.
Some of us take weekly turns starting the thread: Frieda (hopefully)? Holly Lee Louise Lynne Peachy
And for those of you who stop by to read this thread without posting — you are welcome to, but you are also welcome to chime in. Don’t be shy!

My food journey is way off lately – my exercise too. The exercise fell away when I got sick and all I wanted to do was sleep. By now it’s just a lazy habit (a couple of weeks is all it takes) so todayI resolve to get my strength training going again and increase my food consciousness. I feel like I do a lead about some variation of restarting every time so I guess I’m on a 5 week destroy/reinvent schedule.
My schedule has been pretty full so I’m not going to get down on myself – I just need to get back on the horse - NOW. Especially because I need to be sharp – need to learn that megillah chapter and write my Israel presentation for next week. I will have more energy when I treat my body better and will feel better about myself. My mind will be sharper too. So what’s the down side? What’s a bagel really worth anyway? Btw I made a mistake and bought these 70 calorie bagels by a company called Royo. Bought an expensive starter package and they are really terrible – round with a hole in it does not a bagel make!

Good morning everybody. Hope you are all well and SAFE. Please pray for Israel. Re today's topic: Thanks for writing about getting healthier, louise, I needed a little kick in the pants. Re bagels: I had to laugh at your comment! Here in NOVA, my favorite Jewish deli gets its bagels directly from NY, and they are the only ones that are really good. Every place else has what is basically what you said, and I agree: "round with a hole in it does not a bagel make!" Also the rye bread is generally meh. Next week, I will head up to the deli with DS for my monthly fix. They make the best corned beef hash, among other things, and DS and I both love to eat there. I am now in the habit of bringing a lot of the food home as they give enormous portions. I'll check back in later. Have a peaceful day, Lee

You wanna talk a bagel desert, come down south. While it has gotten a little better over the years, in general, we have a LOT of “round with a hole” bagel-like items.
Regarding getting back on track, as you know, I had bunion surgery on Jan. 3. I’m fairly active , and my activity level has probably been the only reason I haven’t gained a ton of weight over the past few years. I knew that the surgery would put a serious wrench in that plan. I’m trying hard to limit intake and enjoy chair exercises, but my efforts have been underwhelming !
