What’s on your mind — how to make kugel? This week’s Torah reading? Life goals? Prayer? We are all engaged in weight loss/weight maintenance journeys and we are all Jewish or at least interested in Judaism. We like to eat, we like to discuss. It is our goal here to provide each other support on our journeys, to share experiences, to call on our rich cultural heritage and texts, and to help each other grow spiritually.
Some of us take weekly turns starting the thread:
Frieda (hopefully)? Holly Lee Louise Lynne Peachy

Hi everyone, I came across this poem when searching for something to post today. It is by Emily Dickinson, and is definitely NOT Jewish, but the sentiments expressed were good for me. Plus, I'm a fan of hers!
"Some Keep the Sabbath" by Emily Dickinson
Some keep the Sabbath going to Church - I keep it, staying at Home - With a Bobolink for a Chorister - And an Orchard, for a Dome -
Some keep the Sabbath in Surplice - I, just wear my Wings - And instead of tolling the Bell, for Church - Our little Sexton -- sings.
God preaches, a noted Clergyman - And the sermon is never long, So instead of getting to Heaven, at last - I'm going, all along.

lee058 , Lee, please keep us updated on the Wegovy front!
One of my students will become bat mitzvah this weekend. I was her teacher last year and this year, but her after-school schedule and my daily schedule never seemed to find mutual time for tutoring, so I gave her dad the other tutor's contact information. I didn't know until last week that she hadn't learned everything she was supposed to and I'm the one who had to find volunteers to read more aliyot (yes, I'm reading one)...
A few years ago, I tutored (as well as taught) her older sister and was invited to the reception where DH and I were seated with her four grandparents plus a very long-time friend of the paternal DGF's. To the left of my seat sat the maternal DGF (he and his wife were/are from Spain) and he was possibly the single most engaging meal companion I've ever had the pleasure of meeting! (On DH's right sat the business friend of the other DGF and they found a lot to talk about). I've asked about this DGF numerous times since then (and was told that he'd asked about me too!). Alas, he died last year and I kept asking how my current student and her three siblings were taking it (their DM flew to Spain to stay with her own DM for about a month or so). To say I'd been looking forward to being with him again at his next two DGC's b. mitzvah (of the four kids, the oldest son became bar mitzvah before the family moved to San Diego, then the two sisters, and there's a younger brother) is an understatement. He will be sorely missed tonight and tomorrow morning (and at the luncheon reception on Sunday as well). A bitter-sweet weekend...
Shabbat shalom, all.

Lynne, what a lovely poem, it must have been quite scandalous at the time she wrote it! And thank you for an interesting week.
Holly, what a delightful memory of that gentleman! Enjoy your time with the family this weekend!
Today is my WI day, and I'm kind of meh about the scale. And I didn't sleep well last night, so I'm sluggish. But I'm going to do my dance DVD at lunchtime today and I've already had a healthy and point-friendly breakfast. I'm thinking of taking a mental health day off next week, just to do something enjoyable for myself, like get a manicure and pedicure, which I haven't done since before the wedding.
Everyone have a great weekend! Shabbat shalom!

Good afternoon everybody. Hope you are all well and SAFE! Please pray for Israel. News: I got my first shipment of Wegovy yesterday in the late afternoon. DS got a letter saying that his student loans were paid in full. We called to confirm it, and it was YES! We went out today to celebrate (as well as run errands), and we each had a Greek omelette, which we thoroughly enjoyed. gazelle18, I really liked the poem and could totally relate. Everybody have a peaceful rest of the day/evening/weekend, Lee

I loved the poem - it's short and takes you right where she is. Today is my second day posting on WW and am doi ng okay. Friday is ms my WW WI day so I made myself face the music. I guess all my walking these past few month of reckless eating paid off becasue I'm about the same as I was. Looking forward to some downward progress!
