What’s on your mind — how to make kugel? This week’s Torah reading? Life goals? Prayer? We are all engaged in weight loss/weight maintenance journeys and we are all Jewish or at least interested in Judaism. We like to eat, we like to discuss. It is our goal here to provide each other support on our journeys, to share experiences, to call on our rich cultural heritage and texts, and to help each other grow spiritually.
Some of us take weekly turns starting the thread:
Frieda (hopefully)? Holly Lee Louise Lynne Peachy
And for those of you that stop by to read this thread without posting — you are welcome to, but you are also welcome to chime in. Don’t be shy!

Any updates about Purim? Either from last evening or today? Or any last words about Va-yikra, the Torah portion of the week that ended yesterday morning? Any new tidbits about the small alef at the end of the first word of the third Book of the Torah? (There are volumes written about it!)
DH and I went to visit my cousin yesterday. He lives a little more than two hours away; we left home around 9am and stopped at our congregation on the way home for the Purim celebration (and left there before it ended) and got home around 9pm, exhausted. I was in bed before 9:30 last night. This morning I want to hear the megillah read, and DH said last night he might come with me. It starts in two hours, so I will keep this short.
Seriously, any last words about either Purim or last week's Torah portion? (I am less interested in Leviticus than in any weekly portion in any of the other Books of Torah...)
I'll check in later today. Please also feel free to discuss whatever else may be on your mind, or anything going on in your life...

Good morning everybody. Hope you are all well and SAFE! Please pray for Israel.
Re today's topic: Today is Purim, so DS and I will spend some time talking about it. He and DH are out food shopping, and I asked them to look for hamentaschen at Wegmans. There should be some unless the store sold out.
I think it's great to have a holiday to celebrate our survival and joy as a people.
Have a peaceful day, Lee

My costume came out great and my little megillah was aceptable (not great, but okay). It gives something to build oon for next year. I was one of the very few adults in costume and one of the few who read, so not to shabby. I will send a picture.
It was trying for me foodwise because the pre-colonoscopy instructions I got this time were much more restrictive - no whole grains, fruit, or vegetables. Doesn't leave me much. I got through it even though there was a very grand 50th anniversay kiddush (that I helped prepare for) and a champagne & dessert celebration after the purim spiel.
Today though I was both hungry and feeling deprived so I ate a lot of sugar - allowed before the colonoscopy but hurtful for me. Over my first week (lost 1.4) I had completely stopped craving sugar. I messed that up today. Tomorrow is jello and juice. Whatever. I hope to be right back on track very soon!

I've had a difficult few days. Friday was my WI day, so the beginning of my eating week. I intended to go to shul Shabbat morning, but we slept late, then got into a discussion and lost track of time, so I missed it. Then DH and I were planning to go to the megillah reading Saturday night, had our costumes ready and everything - but I freaked out about eating times and food temptation, so we didn't go. I still haven't had any hamentaschen. But the good news is that my eating has been on track since my WI on Friday, and I exercised on Friday and today. It's been raining all afternoon and evening but should let up before morning, so I plan to get up and go to the gym at 5 a.m., like I prefer to do. There's a bakery down the street that makes the best hamentaschen I've ever had, so I might go tomorrow and buy just one apiece for me, DH and DS33. Or I might delegate that to DS33, since it's walking distance, and then I won't be tempted to buy anything else.
I hope everyone had a wonderful Purim - now my Passover cleaning starts!
