What’s on your mind — how to make kugel? This week’s Torah reading? Life goals? Prayer? We are all engaged in weight loss/weight maintenance journeys and we are all Jewish or at least interested in Judaism. We like to eat, we like to discuss. It is our goal here to provide each other support on our journeys, to share experiences, to call on our rich cultural heritage and texts, and to help each other grow spiritually.
Some of us take weekly turns starting the thread: Frieda (hopefully)? Holly Lee Louise Peachy
And for those of you that stop by to read this thread without posting — you are welcome to, but you are also welcome to chime in. Don’t be shy!

Sorry to be so late today - came home too exhausted last night. There seemed to be some interest in ways to bring October 7 into our seders. Here are some thoughts from a lunch-and-learn I attended on this topic: Empty chairs at your table. Maybe include name or picture of hostages At the beginning of the sedercall attention to this symbol representing families that cannot celebrate this year. additions to the seder plate – add extra maror to represent the additional grief. Or maybe add an olive or olive branch as a symbol of hoped for peace Maybe add a 5th question about why Passover feels different this year. Just sing “ma nishtanah" again then give a space for people to say why this night feels different to them this year. Maybe when naming the 10 plagues allow a space for what is happening and pour out an extra drop of wine? How can we bring light in a time of darkness? Next year in Jerusalem – try to imagine how it can be. PS this is where yesterday's quote came from viewer.joomag.com/2024-ajr-seder-supplement-final-text/0363593001710381015?eid=vYgHzGmcAjDZhZxugIR4HXGSMy7bxslWGPQjFPEmfqan2STAe8njP1gLbm4kOorgaFbQkrIMV2fD8m56eeAnGyJbSaq%2BcuVpfiU1WvB5qHx2vcbm

These are wonderful ideas ! I particularly like adding the extra maror to the seder plate. I read in the news yesterday that Hamas claims that it doesn’t have enough hostages to make up the 40 demanded in return for a cease fire. Of course we have no idea what to believe, but this is all so sad.

Good afternoon everybody. Hope you are all well and SAFE! Please pray for Israel.
Re today's topic: I don't know what to add, except that today was my Grandma Goldie's birthday in 1898. I miss her and love her memory.
Have a peaceful rest of the day, Lee

These are all great suggestions - I will talk to our hosts about them.
I'm working on menus for the next three weeks, so we can get what we need from the butcher without waiting for the last minute. One good thing about DH not working is that he can do errands at off times.
