What’s on your mind — how to make kugel? This week’s Torah reading? Life goals? Prayer? We are all engaged in weight loss/weight maintenance journeys and we are all Jewish or at least interested in Judaism. We like to eat, we like to discuss. It is our goal here to provide each other support on our journeys, to share experiences, to call on our rich cultural heritage and texts, and to help each other grow spiritually.
Some of us take weekly turns starting the thread: Frieda (hopefully)? Holly Lee Louise Lynne Peachy
And for those of you that stop by to read this thread without posting — you are welcome to, but you are also welcome to chime in. Don’t be shy!

Please forgive me for starting the thread, Lee. I may not be able to return later today, and I just now responded to yesterday's thread. Just know I'm thinking of you.

Good morning everybody. Hope you are all well and SAFE! Please pray for Israel. hollygail, Thanks for starting the thread; I slept late today. Today's topic: "Jeopardy!" I'm picking the TV show because I think it is just the kind of show that appeals to many Jewish people. I know I love it, and have been watching for years, especially now that there have been quite a few changes. Has anyone else noticed that now there are more Jewish-related topics? There never used to be any, and now there are at least a couple every session. I like this! Also, there have been more Jewish contestants. I'm thinking specifically of Amy Schneider, who is remarkable. According to info I found on line, she grew up Jewish but currently thinks of herself as an atheist. I like trying to figure out the correct responses to the answers. Sometimes I yell at the TV. What I really like is how there are tournaments of the best of the best; this gives me a chance to marvel at how smart and fast the contestants are. I think it's a great show, and watch it every weeknight. Tonight is the second episode of the Jeopardy Masters tournament, and I am definitely planning on watching! Have a peaceful day, Lee

I had no idea the show was becoming increasingly Jewish, except of course that I knew Mayim Bialik was the host for a while. Very interesting! I'm not a big TV watcher but I do like this show when I chance upon it.

I love Jeopardy but haven't watched it in quite a while. I should start up that habit. Thanks for the nudge!
Many years ago, DH received the board game version, and that was a lot of fun.

I don’t watch it often, but when I do, I love it. When DH and I watch it, he excels at some categories, and I excel at others. Between the two of us, we could make one above average contestant!

grew up Jewish but currently thinks of herself as an atheist. There are plenty of Jewish atheists and atheist Jews in the world. She can be both Jewish AND an atheist. No "but" needed.
You may not know, but there's also "Jewpardy" which (you can probably guess) is like Jeopardy but with Jewish questions / answers. Many teachers I know use it (I have been using it for more than a decade). You can make your own versions too. Just make the columns and rows, label the top of each column, indicate what each row is worth (and it doesn't have be to dollars; it can be shekels that maybe are used at the religious school's shuk) or it can be for any other type of thing you want. Then you put the answers (or even the questions) in each box and it doesn't even have to have two teams; it can be each person's turn and whoever accrues more correct "answers" (or "questions" as the case may be) is the winner (at least for that round). I love it!
As for Jeopardy itself, I much prefer it to any of the other game shows. DH watches Family Feud which I think is a complete waste of time. You have to come up the the answers that 100 random people gave; random? That's something to aspire to figure out? Sorry, not for me. For me, it's factual information I think is relevant in this world...
