What’s on your mind — how to make kugel? This week’s Torah reading? Life goals? Prayer? We are all engaged in weight loss/weight maintenance journeys and we are all Jewish or at least interested in Judaism. We like to eat, we like to discuss. It is our goal here to provide each other support on our journeys, to share experiences, to call on our rich cultural heritage and texts, and to help each other grow spiritually.
Some of us take weekly turns starting the thread:
Frieda (hopefully)? Holly Lee Louise Lynne Peachy
And for those of you that stop by to read this thread without posting — you are welcome to, but you are also welcome to chime in. Don’t be shy!

Good morning everybody! Hope you are all well and SAFE! Please pray for Israel.
Today's topic: Doctor Who.
Jews have always been wanderers. Doctor Who is a wanderer (although not Jewish) through space and time. He travels, usually with companions, to various places and eras, encountering all sorts of beings including sometimes historical figures. I feel a kinship; I wonder if anyone reading this does too? Tonight, the show returns on Disney+ after a hiatus, and DS and I have been looking forward to it for months.
For myself, I travelled a lot after college, going to most of the USA. I learned so much from my experiences, mostly how to observe people and places better. Since then, I've moved to a few different places with my family, which was very different from going on my own. I had a lot more responsibilities, especially when we went to Panama when DS was very young.
Doctor Who has been an influence on me since I first started watching the show back in the 1980's. I was fortunate in that the PBS station I used to see it on showed all the episodes from the beginning up through the most recent ones. I could see how the character changed over time, depending upon who he was with and what was happening. Yet somehow he always remained himself: working for good things to happen and to help civilizations to improve. I think we could draw parallels between these actions and those of Jews, wherever we have been.
A unique characteristic of Doctor Who is that he has changed actors, yet the show has continued. He has been mostly male, but sometimes female; and the latest Doctor is Black. We'll see if this makes any differences!
In short, I think that this is an important show, and a good influence. Like Jews, the Doctor has changed others wherever he has gone (I think for the better).
I've enjoyed this week, and hope you have too. It's been fun writing about things and people that interest me, and I've tried to tie everything into Jewish life.
Have a peaceful day, Lee

Thanks for an interesting week, Lee, and now I want to watch Dr. Who! Somehow I never had a chance to watch it, so I think it's high time.
Today is my WI day - I lost 0.8 lb this week, and I did go to the gym at 5 a.m. for cardio and weight training, so I feel good right now. And hungry. I'm off to make breakfast - my cat thinks I should have eggs, so I can give her a yolk, so maybe I'll indulge her.
Everyone have a great weekend! Shabbat shalom!

Early this morning I responded to yesterday's thread. If you're interested, go take a look.
I watched Dr. Who for a while and loved it. I can't tell you the name of the actor who was playing Dr. Who, but I can tell you that when he morphed into the next actor, I stopped watching the show altogether. I liked the first actor I saw in it (and he was NOT the first actor who played Dr. Who). I don't remember that he traveled to different periods in time nor that he met anyone famous, but I enjoyed his travels regardless. The idea of a telephone booth that was a space ship was brilliant! I loved that from the outside it was small but from the inside, it seemed never to end. Perfect for sci fi.
Terrific topics this week, Lee! Thanks!
Shabbat shalom / gut shabbes, everyone.

I'm not familiar with Dr. Who - thought it was a Jamesa Bond character - sounds like a very interesting series. Enjoy. It was a really interesting week, Lee. Thank you. Shabbat shalom.
